Nice poll LC. Will be interesting Monday to see how peeps voted.

Can it show who and how they voted or is that too scientific for this exercise?

    Asking for a friend.

Surprised there is no more chatter here about the QB battle after the scrimmage today....

Sark says that Thompson and Card are not playing up to the level they should be.

Neither played better above the other... or similar words.

I noted Thompson had a turnover... did not say if INT or fumble.

    Early in camp....

Not much chatter on defense. What about Overshown? Supposed to be his money year.

^^^ Sark saved most of his praise for the D after the scrimmage today. Dont remember a comment about O'Man.... but we know what he can do!

He did mention Roshcon Johnson on the O. Said WR's need to step up better than today.

What I read was brief. Some of you may have seen more feedback.

Sark said and continues to say he will be hard on QBs....dont expect to hear too much praise this early on.
By all accounts, the defense is playing at a very high level.
Overshown was mentioned as having returned and making impact. Also was highlighted in a national piece as one of the underrated NFL draft prospects.
Insiders note strong play from Safeties and corners, dline, but little mention of LB corp...other than 0's return..and Brock being a positive suprise.
Position players highlighted as noted above..
TEs, RBs, ...not much singing right now for WRs and oline.
My gut feel is standard has been raised all around and there will be less free praise handed out....things may sound at times worse (relative to previous standards) than they are at times...going to have to hit a high mark to make the grade.....and that is good for Texas football.
These are two talented, smart, gifted, capable QB prospects. But raw, young, inexperienced. Regardless of who wins there will be growing pains, we'll have some headaches, and lose some games while they mature. I personally see Card with NFL potential...not sure on Casey yet but no problem seeing either of them as excellent, winning college QBs at a high level. ..
    ....in about another 14 months.

I don't care who starts as long as it's the one that gives us the best chance to win. And it's possible it's a different one depending on who the opponent is.

Casey should have the edge, but new staff and system have eroded that edge. Most had no faith in Strong's Staff from the get-go and were proven correct. Herman came in with grandiose ideas which covered up bad personality and coaching traits, but he was a breath of fresh air. By year 3 we all knew what was going on.

This brings us to Casey and Card. Could Casey and Card (with the "free" year last season) have played more in the blow-outs? Yes, but the issue was there were not that many blow-outs.

Sark now enters. He has the experience and seems to be focused. Hopefully, he will not turn out to be Herman on steroids. What brings hope is as a QB/Offensive Coordinator he has developed good to extremely very good QB's. Will the pressures of being the Texas HC take away his ability to do what he does best? Time will tell.

This brings us to which one. Both will play against ULaLa and it really doesn't mean much in the grand scheme of things. The defense will be the key in this game. Both will probably play against the pigs. The key will be who starts against Rice as this will be the last tune-up before conference play begins. This will be your starting QB.

Not that anyone cares but on the AAS podcast, “One Second Thought,” Golden, Bohls & Davis were unwavering: Thomson should be the guy. I agree. The kid has been in the program for three years and he exudes confidence. He is also the more mobile of the two. I don’t really care about who has the stronger arm or who throws the better spiral. I care about who can take us to victories…as we all do.

Interceptions yesterday? I’m not worried. It’s fall camp and they are installing a new offense with new coaches. It’s a learning experience. Let CT make mistakes in August. Sam made plenty in his first two years, and that turned out very well.

If CT isn’t selected I’ll be shocked and disappointed. That is, unless the separation next Saturday by Card is dramatic. That seems unlikely.

I see special teams doing better with our so-called all-world special teams coach, plus returning players at P and K.

I see defense doing better with our so-called all-world defensive coach, plus returning players at most positions.

On offense, plenty of returning players at RB and TE. I can’t see OL doing worse given are new so-called all-world OL coach plus returning players at most positions. Thus, the key will be QB and WR. We have talent at QB, just need to avoid turnovers. For WR, they don’t have to be all-world, just need to be solid on fundamentals and avoid injury.

I voted Casey but really I only want the one who gives us the best chance to win today. If they are equal, then I prefer Card because every single thing I hear is how much more upside he has than Casey. If Thompson gives us the best chance to win today, then Card can develop that upside from the bench. If that upside shows up mid season then flip the starters. I just want the best one on the field.

I voted Casey for multiple reasons, one of which is the kid has been a great representative of the program. Unless I'm mistaken, he has already graduated and has two years left. My selfish reason is that I never liked his dad, and I really want Casey to have a great game in The Cotton Bowl, and walk up the ramp as the winner. He's earned that opportunity and for the rest of his life all he has to do is smile at his father and his dad knows what he's thinking without a word being said.

    4th_floor Dude, where's my laptop?

I read a report that Thompson had 1 pick. Also not confirmed. I'm a little concerned with bad judgement under pressure, given the pick 6 in the spring game. Hopefully this gets fixed before ousux.

I would prefer Casey to start, i don't want to see him hit the portal.
I know thats a crappy reason.
But i would like Card to get quality PT.
As the season progresses if Thompson is playing well then we have the starter. But i still would like to see Card get PT.
On the other hand if Thompson is playing mediocre then let Card start.

SARK needs to read and perform this brilliant strategy!

They’re not some kind of miracle workers. They are, however, mostly proven really good coaches. Especially Kwiatkowski.

Back to the original question: Casey, unless and until Card passes him up.

Card all the way. I believe Sark knows this as well and is making a qb competition for show. Card will start game one and continue for the season.
Card is simply the better qb.

Guys, I have the solution to the QB battle. Hear me out…it’s something I like to call the “10 yard minimum offense”. Here’s the trick: you play both QB’s on the field. You also have 1 RB, 2 TE’s, 3 WR’s, and 3 OL. There is an old post about it from 2009. The time is now to execute it.

It is becoming clearer by the day...Card has flipped or is flipping the leaderboard.
If he can come in here as a Frosh and beat out Casey to win the job...then we may really have something with him. If he holds the job down....even more so.
