?? When did Trump say it was "useless "?
    Maybe I missed that part
What I remember him saying is if that NATO was going to exist then all countries should contribute what they agreed to contribute, not just the USA.
Who has a problem with that?

The great part about rhetorical sloppiness is that you can just say everything and effectively say nothing.

He said it was obsolete. He also said (like almost every President in recent years) that all countries should contribute at least 2 percent of GDP. There's nothing wrong with the second part. However, if the first part is true (it isn't, though Biden is doing his part to make it so), then the second part makes no sense.

    Mr D
I will borrow your words from another thread
Excuse me for caring what words mean
What dictionary do you use that lists useless as synonym for obsolete?
Finish out what Trump said about NATO being obsolete.

Btw out of all the other Presidents to say all countries should contribute the 2% of GDP who did get other countries to step up and pay more?

Look at all those participation trophies...which one of them symbolizes Wokeness and which one is the DEI award? Some of you military types need to help me out here...

I'm a little torn....your ridiculous "participation trophy" quip pisses me off a little but Milley has clearly been a disaster. Personally, I think Milley so resented Trump by the time they parted ways that he has let his personal feelings cloud his professional judgement. He has let his disdain for Trump color his opinion of Trump supporters and by extension the GOP. This has made him a very willing receptacle for Democrats and MSM bull****.

I hear you, but since post Vietnam, medals have been given away like candy. In 1978 I received a commendation medal for simply pulling my car over after seeing a wreck, putting 2 girls in the car and driving to a nearby hospital. One had a broken leg.

When my commander told me I was receiving a high award for my action I told him, For that? If I hadn't stopped for those girls and my dad knew about it he'd probably have kicked my ***.... my commander just laughed. I had the feeling he was just adding notches to his belt to make him look good.

It was kind of embarrassing to accept the medal in front of the entire 67th. Everyone in attendance would have done the same thing.

H2RA got what my point was...I have seen more than enough clients who had us trying to fluff up their parole materials with lists of stuff that was NOT related to any sort of combat-related decisions/actions/sacrifices.

The sad reality is that the military of today would have gotten its *** kicked just about anywhere other than Grenada. Wokeness does not win battles or wars. And Afghanistan has shown we don't have the best and the brightest leading right now, no matter how much shiny bauble crap they are wearing...

I left the Air Force in 1983. Good Conduct and Humanitarian Service medals. Honorable Discharge as Sergeant. Great.

In 1995, I visited a friend in South Bend who had served with me. On his wall was an Air Force Commendation Medal. I was impressed and asked what he did to receive it - he was one of the best Airmen who served with me. His reply, "After you guys left, meaning Sergeants, and Staff Sergeants, the unit panicked over the loss of experience and started handing our medals for almost anything." He could not remember exactly why he got the commendation medal even when looking at the commendation document. Him - "I was just doing my job."

Side note - I did get to see Touchdown Jesus while I was there.

I can see the point you're both making. I remember joking about some of silly medals when I was young and receiving some of them, but as a commander later I realized there aren't going to be future battles where we are going to "take the hill". Most of our future battles are going to be waged with robots/drones and a button pusher that is operating it remotely from 2 miles away. Most of the mano y mano stuff is going away. How do you recognize troops for doing a good job when they are never really going to be asked to go toe to toe, and stare down the business end of rifle?

Our problem winning wars is that leadership has pie in the sky notions that we are going to be able cleanly deliver "democracy" and then the population is going to suddenly gather in the town square and start singing "God Bless America". It will never be that way. Every regime has people that are vested in that regime, no matter how evil or poorly it has delivered. And those people are the ones in power. One of the big mistakes we made in both OEF and OIF is the "hearts and minds" and "by, with, thru" mantra. We cared entirely too much about what people and the world community thought about our actions. This hamstrung us and propped up a very weak AFG gov't. We made them look more capable than they really were. This was a "fake it til you make it" approach. I read an article someone posted here that captured a very valid critique of our process. We essentially allowed the AFG military to become a "jobs program" and many were doing it just to get a steady paycheck. I think supporting them was a good choice, but our ramp down should have included substantially more difficult capabilities testing than what it appears that we did.

while you guys scurry around avoiding the question of whether Biden has any accomplishments aside from waking up every morning, sort of, and thus depriving Kamala Harris of her rightful place at the top of the greasy pole, I would like to, just for a bit, drift back a few years and address a question that has interested me since first it came to my attention; that is, what in the world was Obama doing going to that Church where the reverend was preaching that really interesting gospel? And why would anyone take their kids there for indoctrination?

Some on this board back in the day insisted Obama was a closet moslem; I knew that was bs because he had degrees from two Ivy League schools and thus was torn in two directions religion wise: he was either an atheist or an agnostic or perhaps even had some odd Deist formula that he fell back on.

But now, does he attend services anywhere? Does he go to church now or just play golf and throw parties for himself? And write a series of autobiographies. Or claim to.

Anyway, if anybody has got a sane explanation for his attendance at that church, I would much like to hear it.

    Thanks.

And unlike most of my posts, this one is not a snide under the belt putdown of some knuckledragger. I am sincerely interested in getting the thoughts of some people who devote some time to matters political. My buddies and buddettes in CC do not have any coherent thoughts on the subject---we do have that in common.

Obama was a faculty lounge Marxist. It’s not any more complicated than that and it fits the pattern you outlined above.

But does this notion organically arise within current military leadership? Or is it fed to them by the worthless Ivy League indoctrinated morons populating the State Dept and other bureaucracies?

So they proudly announce a drone took out a suicide bomber driving through the steets on way to Kabul airport. Yea team Biden
Then decided it was maybe 2 suicide bombers
But wait, no it was a car pool of them. Saved on parking don't ya know
News and pics come out that a family of 9 including several children were killed by drone
But wait Our story is now that we dont really know BUT maybe it is possible there secondary explosions after the drone missle hit the vehicle full of bomb laden suicide bombers. But trust us we will investigate.
Terrorists have been known to lie about civilians we might have killed. In this case they have pics of burned bodies and identities. Who knows,
What is logical is to think a car of suicide bombers would cause more explosions that could kill innocent civilians.
Is it ok to kill a few civvies if the number is less than what it might have been.?
Did that not occur to whoever ordered the drone attack in the streets of Kabul?

One of the bedrock principles of being in the US military is our diehard adherence to chain of command and civilian control of the military. The way this plays out is that military leaders are trained to defer to much of the civilian apparatus. And that is a good thing. However, it also means we take our cues from those Ivey League boneheads in the State Dept. Those people are largely indoctrinated they way you suggest and even when we find a "conservative" out of that pool of candidates, it is an "east coast conservative" which usually means just a little more conservative than the rest of the Ivey Leaguers.

Part of the problem when Presidents refer to listening to our generals on the ground, what they really mean is "after we told them all the things that we didn't want them to do and tied their hands behind their backs, their Plan F that complies with all the State Dept constraints is XXXXXX"

All true, but you have to remember that a lot of this is political. We want war to be easy - light casualties, quick, and not a lot of civilian deaths. We bomb and kill some bad guys, and then our little walk in and are hailed as liberators by a bunch of people who want to emulate Western-style liberal democracy. That's easy to sell to the public, and it's easy to get them to say "Yes" to it. Once they say Yes, the process takes on its own momentum, but they don't account for the fact that eventually the public gets impatient. And once you've BS'd them, it's very hard to get them to get on board with what it would actually take to achieve the objective, which is much messier and much more costly.

I would say we suffer from "Greatest Generation" residuum. We want our conflicts to all achieve this same clarity of intent. WWII was seen by almost all the world as a just cause and the Allies were almost universally seen as protecting the world. In the rest of our conflicts we were "protecting our interests". That is the reality most of the time. Conflicts are over "interests". Sometimes these are still worth pursuing but they certainly have much less moral clarity to them. As a result, the politicians try to wrap the protection of our interests in some other more "noble" cause so they can sell the conflict at home and abroad. This is the point where conflict gets messy and expectations become misaligned with our actual level of commitment to the region/people/cause.

Why would the State Dept want to stop American citizens from helping people like Glenn Beck and the former military of Pineapple Express from getting Americans out of Kabul?
Beck mentions State stopping other countries from giving clearance but it has also been reported elsewhere.

    AC powerful disturbing vid.
WHY is this along with all the other crap happening.
If it were Obama it would make sense. He was clear he wanted America's standing brought down

    Edit to add
The Taliban is announcing that the last of American military planes have taken off from Kabul airport.
Has there been a darker more shameful day for our country?
