The country was built before public education like we have today existed. It's completely unnecessary and a huge problem today. Parents don't get a say. They teach corrupt government ideology. Democracy is about giving power to individual people. Public education takes power away from families and puts it in the hands of government bureaucrats.

In the current system where public school takes all the money, your mom couldn't afford it. But if the government wasn't taken all the money and pouring it into their schools, your mom would have had multiple options she could have afforded. In general, public schools in poor neighborhoods provide poor education anyway.

That’s insane but then so much Cal has done in the last few months is, so what can you expect? How are people supposed to cut their grass? Landscapers? Everyone has to buy one of those idiot electrics? This is crazy.

It will be interesting how they enforce that, local police writing a ticket to a landscaper while someone is getting shot.

To be fair, I haven't read the bill, but I'll bet it has some kind of grandfather clause.

probably set it up for "no new sales" so existing equipment will be grandfathered. I'm imaging some sort of black market for lawnmowers in about 2 years. I would imagine there is some sort of phase out period for existing machines and then at some point in the future, all gas machines will be outlawed. I think they are probably about 5 years away from doing this with cars. This is probably a test run.

My guess is that you're going to see a big market for used gas mowers and for maintenance and repair. The electric mowers are pretty common in Europe, but the yards are quite a bit smaller. They'd be a pain the *** even in fairly modest-sized American yards, though even in Europe they haven't banned gas mowers.

Supposedly it is not the use which is banned but rather the sale of new units. I am sensing a retirement income stream opportunity just across the borders into other surrounding States. This way, the sale will have occurred outside of California...

Of course, the next step will be Commifornia trying to create some manner of licensing such machinery, at which point the masses WILL finally wake up and realize that conservatives were, in fact, correct about tax and spend libtiles...

If I lived in California, I'd just drive to Arizona or Nevada and buy a real mower and then I'd take really good care of it. For most people, you could do it inside a day.

And bear in mind that this is all virtue signaling. Nobody is going to enforce this law. Big retailers will honor it, but you'll see private sales all over the place and nobody will care. It's the Left's equivalent of sodomy laws.

Most private sales are not new in the box, which is what seems to be prohibited from most of the overview articles I have seen...

Private sales don't involve new in the box mowers now, but if you own a truck and don't mind a drive to a Home Depot in Lake Havasu, Arizona, it may be worthwhile to buy a bunch of new ones and resell them in Los Angeles for a nice markup.

It's all virtue signaling. The green CA perspective and the "you'll take my gas mower out of my cold dead hands" are signaling. We're talking 2024. If you don't think rechargable mowers will rival their gas drinking brethren you haven't following the auto industry, vacuum industry and many others.

California's economy is so big that this will drive market changes. It's both a shot across the bow and a boon for innovative lawn mower manufacturers. Will gas mowers disappear? Nope. There will be a robust repair market no different than classic car shops.

This is simply California throwing their weight around (#6 largest economy in the world) towards green intiatives.

The EV autos STILL are weak and ineffectual for those that actually USE the vehicle. The same holds true and will continue to hold true for things like mowers and other equipment that was being used to do a dozen yards a day (or even just a single yard of real size that has more than a week of growth). Hell, even golf carts that are a year old can be a challenge to get through 18 holes on a challenging course that actually has hills.

Even sadder is that King Newsom clearly has not contemplated how to deal with a grid that is insufficient for CURRENT needs without resorting to regular rolling brownouts...

Neighbor had an electric mower for his very small yard here in Houston and an electric string trimmer. He finally gave up and hired yard guy. Kinda funny really.

Is that from the frustration of electric yard equipment or frustration of yard work period? Several years ago I chose to buy back some personal time with lawn service. One of the best decisions I've ever made.

Honestly could be either but watching him struggle with it and that mini mower I imagine the frustration was compounded by his effort to go green.

    From Fox Business.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said Tuesday the proposed requirement that banks report information on any account with $600 of total activity over the course of a year will stay in Democrats' reconciliation bill in some form, despite public backlash.

I don't think people will guard their gas mowers with their lives. However, I do think people who actually mow lawns (and therefore buy mowers) will go to significant trouble to avoid this in the short and even medium term. The electric mowers are a pain the ***, and they'll still be a pain in the *** in 2024 - too small and too much hassle with a cord. And yes, California has a big of economy, but if the European Union can't change the game with electric mowers, I don't see the State of California doing it anytime soon. (Note - the EU doesn't ban gas mowers, but they heavily disfavor them.)

In places where the yards are very small (big cities), it makes little difference, but if you have a decent-sized yard (American suburbs), it really would. A one-time, 4-hour drive to Arizona or Nevada to have a gas-powered mower? It's a no-brainer.

And I'm not sure that there's a lot of evidence of EVs rivaling gas-powered cars anytime soon. Even in Germany (which is quite a bit greener than California), they lag way behind and are still largely a hobby horse (and yes, somewhat of a virtue signalling tool) for rich people, and that's with the government wildly stacking the deck for them and doing everything it can to screw with gas-powered cars (local bans on diesels, astronomically high taxes on fuel and oil, etc.). Until they figure out a way to make them cheaper and charge or replace the battery as easily, cheaply and taking a similar amount of time as filling a gas tank, it's not gonna happen on a big scale. And of course, keep in mind that an electric car is only as green as the electricity source.

This is accurate in the short run, but every technology improves. Battery tech has improved a great deal in the last decade and will continue to do so. Every time someone reports a theoretical engineering dead end, someone else comes up with a new idea. They don't all work and there are significant issues with pushing "EV-everything" too fast, but it will all improve greatly over the long haul. Laptops used to have like an hour of battery life, now some have 24 hrs and can rapid charge to 60% in 45 min. Obviously there is still a ways to go to match ICE but history shows that it will eventually happen. It is all about the timeline you use to do your analysis.

    Virtue Signaling:

What we do know is that many Liberal politicians raced to be the first to defund their local police (talking to you Austin, Texas). This is first hand evidence that their actions are political and not about the actual virtue they wish to project. That is the reason I don't trust one thing they say or do.

And yes, I believe the Governor of Texas is virtue signaling with his aggression on abortion, the vaccine and gun laws.

    What about the grid Governor?

Energy industry showers Gov. Greg Abbott, other Texas politicians with campaign cash after they passed power grid bills

"From June 21 to June 30, after the legislative fundraising blackout ended, five of the largest and most prominent companies in the Texas power grid supply chain — Calpine, Centerpoint, NRG Energy, Oncor and Vistra — or their top executives collectively donated about $497,000 to state elected officials and political groups. That's more than twice the $207,000 they gave during the same period when the legislative session ended in in 2019, according to a Texas Tribune analysis. A large chunk of that cash was driven by Oncor, Texas’ largest transmission and distribution electric company, with many big donations coming from the company's executives."

Quite frankly it was wrong to edit it out but Ginsburg was wrong too. The govt didn't make it possible to live a decent life, the constitution did. If you haven't noticed in the last 18 months the government just wants to control us and make our lives as basic and miserable as possible.

The headline didn't capture the biggest one in my opinion:

"The new law will ban the sale of all off-road, gas-powered engines, including generators... Under the new law, these machines must be zero-emissions, meaning they will have to be either battery-powered or plug-in"

When an emergency causes the electricity to go out, let me just plug in my generator to get it working...
