All flash/style and no substance. Will put up 60+ points every now and then, but will crater under any defensive pressure. Makes me wonder.

I hope not, but their taste in DCs seems to be troublingly similar.

Another ridiculous post. A few games in, Herman’s players, competitive against 2 ranked teams? We could have easily won the last 2 games, but it’s obviously, we run out of juice at the end due to lack of whatever. Did anyone really think we we would be more than what we see on the field. Building team and culture takes time.

You mean like Bijan and the many other 4-Star players he recruited.

Good point on Bijan, but every coach has a system and specific players that fit their scheme. I mean seriously, just a few games in, and people think that Sark is the problem? Just because “We’re Texas” doesn’t give the right to win. Culture change and players that fit the system takes time. You are right, the players may be 4 stars, but until it’s proven on the field constantly, that means absolutely nothing. Jimmy’s and Joes win, not X’s n O’s. Can’t remember who said that, but let’s just give the staff a chance longer than a few games. The Sark/Leach comparison is far fetched.

Late Mack, Charlie, Tom and Sark all had/have the same problem: No "game changing" QB on the roster. Sam had his moments, but he did not have Vince Young or Caleb Williams type talent.

Talent is non existent at many positions. It takes 11 on each side of the ball. We only have 5-6. If we are still looking like this in year 3 with Sark, then, yeah, the honeymoon is over. If it's already over for some of you, I'm guessing premature is a word your wives are familiar with.

That's a bit unfair to Leach who generally did this well or better with far fewer resources and only a couple of big stars.

Eventually. He started 7-6, 7-5 and 2 bowl losses.

Why do we keep recruiting players that cannot ever sniff the field? It begs the question.

Maybe we should stop offering them scholarships after their 9th grade season!

You don't have to have a transcendent QB to be competitive and win championships. The problem is that all three of the first coaches you mentioned NEEDED it because they were substandard in other areas. Charlie never got it. Mack never got it after Colt left. Tom got it in spots from Sam Elingher. Sark may yet get it from someone. But the cycle of needing superman at QB in order to beat good to average teams needs to end.

A great QB would always be welcome.
Great players at O line and LB would be a season changer right now.

I'd happily take a prime (2000s) Leach and see what he could do with the talent we should have here.

Bijan is a great RB, and is incredible after first contact UNLESS first contact is by 3-4 defenders at once. No blocking, Earl, Ricky, Little Joe, Chris Gilbert, Joe Don Looney, OJ, keep going were be distant memories with ZERO blocking. Herman left the the OL empty.

I was reading an article (might have been the Athletic? I think it was a paywall one) that basically showed the progression of Alabama's offense from like 2008 to today. The better your offense gets in terms of yards and points, the more possessions your opponent will have.

Leach always struck me as uncaring about those possessions the opponent gets. Maybe he has flashes where his D steps up (their win over A&M), but for the most part, he knows that if his offense does the job, they'll be in a position to win.

I don't see that same issue with Saban or his coaching tree. While Saban has clearly gone the way of "we're going to match up offensively" with everyone under Tua, Mac Jones, etc., I don't think they like how that makes their D trend. Sark will need some grace here, based on the personnel we've been using.

Reminds me of Macovic. More offense than needed to win and defensive suckage that could not keep a lead. No adjustments to game plan. Yeah, Macovic II. Both had great running backs.
We have a game changing QB sitting on the bench that should never have been benched and gotten experience in games after the pig debacle. Sark’s offense needs a passer to work. We have wasted half a season not getting Card ready.
    Poop away.

    In another note
Bijan just needs 70 rushing yards to get one thousand.
Wonder if he'll get that against Baylor?

Mike Leach career record , 59%
    Sarkisian career record, 56%

Sark has had the better gigs, by far. Yet his record is looking at Leach's one spot

    Sark Washington...., Leach Wash State
    Sark Texas..., Leach Texas Tech
    Sark USC..., Leach Miss State
See the difference? Sark gets the premier position in a given state, Leach takes the underdog to better records

I don't know why this is hard to figure out. Sark isn't going to take us where we need to be

Sark is working with guys that were recruited by Herman plus a few guys that transferred in. He will need at least the incoming class and maybe two more classes to see what he can produce. But like most folks, like a lot of our fans, expect instant gratification and see a team go from 8-4 or 9-3 or worse, to winning a national championship the first year. It happens, but not that frequently. The personnel on this team "overall" was not going to produce a national champ this year, and is probably not even capable of winning a B12 Championship. In the future, maybe, but many folks do not see the lack talent on this team which is necessary to achieve those lofty goals. I've said this before, a HC gets one year whether the outcome is good or bad. But after that, I expect to see progress and eventually be in the annual Conference and NC championship discussions. Time will tell.

Agree, not this year. Probably not even the next year, but I for one expect to see some progress each and every year. IF we are in the same boat after year 3 or 4, then it's time to cut him loose.

    Neither one can coach defense.
Our defense was playing much better than at the end of last year.
We lost a couple of good players, but returned most and are performing much worse.

Doesn't remind me of Mackovic because Sark has been humbled and is also quite likeable.
