The last 10 years have felt a lot like the mid 1980s to 1998. Mostly crappy football with a few splashes of nice wins here and there. This is not as long a period of craptastic results yet. Let's hope Sark is not Mackovic but rather the next DKR/Mack Brown.

If he is Mackovic, we are at least 10 years away, just like the 80s and 90s, from any return to glory.

From DKR, it took 3 coaches to get to Mack Brown. I'm sure many of us don't want to have to go through another firing/hiring to hopefully, maybe, get the next great head coach.

Before the season nearly everyone predicted 4 or 5 losses.
For sure the way the losses have been agonizing, the last 2 bewildering.
I think Sark will get it done.
His attitude is 180 from Herman

Recollection of the pre-season loss estimates appears to be a bit foggy. Started out at 2 or 3, now we're at 4 or 5. I see an upward trend developing.

I had very high hopes before the season began to the tune of 11-1 mostly thinking
    1) Sark's play calling would not be predictable.
    2) Coach K's defense would be stout, especially with our d-line
    3) Thompson (or Card) would flourish in a high octane offense despite a suspect o-line.
    4) RB's. Bijan has been spectacular while Keilan is vastly underutilized, which pisses me off to no end. Why can't we put them in together and build off of that?
While i am a great believer in a variety of play calls (keepem guessing) why didn't we throw the ball out in the flat to Bijan another time like the td that he scored. Do it till they stop it.
Sark's play calling gets stagnant sometimes. Why? I think that will eventually work itself out.
We got to remember Saban's first year was 6-6. He had good athletes also when he started.

It sucks. Especially giving away games to top teams. We see flashes in the pan of what this team could be with this coaching staff. Two things can be true at once. The talent isn’t what you think it is. Particularly on the lines. And the coaches haven’t made the adjustments needed. More could be done with this talent then has been done, but there’s no room for error. Evaluation and development has plagued this program for a decade. Give them time. I don’t know if this is the group but I see potential and you can’t go straight to coaching halfway into a season. We know exactly who this team is now. I hoped for better but expectations are quite tempered now and I’m cool with it.

My biggest disappointment with the last two games has been the lack of utilization of our best position group on offense. We have so-so WRs and an awful offensive line. We all know that. The Rbs are a strong point, but we cannot we figure out how to use Roschon and Keilan more. Very vanilla offense and wreaks of a stubborn head coach. Also, the TEs are pretty good. Where the hell have they been.

While I feel like our offensive line is the main issue, the lack of creativity by Sark has been alarming.

^^^Yes, We see flashes in the pan.

Part of the game this team are world beaters; then we sh-t the bed. That's the M-O of a very incomplete team. We are dreadfully short of quality depth and quality O linemen. Our inexperience at QB; the new staff/new systems contribute to lapses in execution.

Half the time the Horns look great. Half the time it's a cluster Fukk.

The losses to ou and osu should not surprise anyone. They are both better teams than the Horns.

That being said, my frustration and heartbreak about those losses could not be worse.

We did have them in the backfield together during the OSU game.

Kept in to assist the offensive linemen, for whatever that has been worth.

I think for the most part he HAS been creative. And btw... "creative" doesn't always mean trick plays or wild stuff that immediately catches your eye. it's about creating mismatches and getting guys in space. There have been times where he's been really good at that.

I think particularly in the second half of the last two games, we've been playing in a phone booth because he knows we can't drop back and throw deep patterns, because there's just not enough time. When we've been able to do that, things have worked pretty well. The issue is that when the last two defenses figured out how to blow past our o-line (or our o-line got tired or quit or whatever it was that happened), all of a sudden we're running into 9 guys within 8 yards of the LOS, he's having to max protect to throw simple pass patterns a lot of times, which means we have no TE availability and not a lot of RB availability.

The Bijan swing pass works when you have one LB that has coverage responsibility and he has no shot. It doesn't work when you've got three guys on that side of the field unblocked within 5 yards of the LOS, and ALL of them looking at him.

It's not as simple as "man that play worked once and we never ran it again!" (Now having said that, I'd have liked to see more of the action on that quick pass counter to Keilan Robinson off the fake to Bijan.)

Basically it's a lot harder to be creative when you're in second and long because your line couldn't block a simple stretch play. And maybe that's because when Sark gets the lead he's too stubborn with Bijan on first down. But when it worked, everyone praised him for putting it in the hands of his playmaker.

Does anyone know if CT has the option to change the play? I asked because I’m watching the first half again and I see more than one time where I see the defensive set up and say ‘if we’re running left we’re making serious yardage’ only to watch them run to the right where the defense is stacked. Makes me sick cause I’m thinking if I can see this miss match why can’t Casey unless he has no leeway to change the play?
Also I repeat what I said before regarding rotation, we have 18 players listed as OL, one is out hurt but in 17 players you cannot convince me we cannot rotate enough players for 2-3 plays that can handle run or pass blocking. There has to be enough competence among these guys to get adequate breaks for the starters to be capable in 4th qtr. I just don’t get it.

This is a great post. Sark is working with what he's got. Early in the game he has a decent group to work with. Later in the game not so much. Everyone who has posted that our depth is suspect is correct. Good recruiting will help that. Alabama wins because their 2nd string can still kick your ***. We're not there yet.

The biggest difference to me is we've gone 3-10 against OU since Colt and Shipley left. We hadn't had a stretch that bad against Oklahoma since the 50s.

All of our 3 coaches between DKR and Mack had winning records against Oklahoma. The 4 coaches we've had since then, including Mack, have losing records against them.

Granted part of this was due to OU being down in the mid 90s and up now, but only part of it. They had a 5 year span ('94 through '98) with no winning record, but they never had a decade+ span of mediocrity like we have now since they were pretty good before that - which includes the majority of David McWilliams and Fred Akers' times here.

I seem to be in the minority here, but in 80s and 90s losing to A&M almost every year was worse than Oklahoma because of conference ramifications.

    HIC,

OU is the game I want to win and wanted to win the most, BUT having Jackie Sherrill through up the Horns on both hands and ask me if I knew what that stood for; then he says, "Four in a Row". I had no reply, and it still burns.

I hear ya. Those were my middle and high school and into college years. I hated OU, but for me, it stung more losing to A&M every year.

Yeah. Losing to OU was like getting beat up by the neighborhood bully; losing to Aggy was like getting sucker punched by your little brother--much more egregious.

Not unlike now where OU keeps us out of the CCG, A&M kept us out of the Cotton Bowl most years.
