LSU and coach Ed Orgeron, 60, have reached a separation agreement that will result in Orgeron not returning to coach the Tigers following the 2021 season, according to Sports Illustrated's Ross Dellenger. Orgeron, who won a national championship at LSU in 2019, is expected to finish the remainder of the season as the team's coach. While this development comes less than 24 hours after the Tigers upset Florida 49-42 at Tiger Stadium, Dellenger reports that the move had been in the works since last week's loss to Kentucky. Orgeron is expected to receive his entire $17 million buyout, according to The Athletic's Bruce Feldman. Orgeron has led LSU for the last five full seasons after being promoted from his role as interim coach in 2016. Though he did put together an undefeated LSU team that won the 2019 national title in one of the most dominant seasons in the history of the sport, the program has fallen significantly since it walked off the field after winning the College Football Playoff in New Orleans. LSU is 9-8 (7-6 SEC) since that championship win with a 2-3 record against Power Five opponents this season. Overall, it is 49-17 (30-14 SEC) since 2016 when Orgeron took over as an interim coach after LSU fired Les Miles four games into the season.
That or Enter Napier or Odom or Urban Meyer (who could get away with anything and everything in that environment)
They are coming fo The early favorites are, in no particular order, Franklin, Jimbo, Mel Tucker and Sark. Some say U LA La coach, but I don't believe it. If I was a betting man, (I am not), I say Jimbo. LSU AD LOVES him and now that TAM beat Bama, if aggie doesn't implode, I think Woodard will convince LSU to pay Jimbo, ""Dabo and Sabin money, 10 year guarantee, no buy out. ""Like the big boys". Woodard orchestrated this deal at anm and he will do it again. I see Jimbo or Urban as the only possible choices (well there is Mack, but Mack is coach O that can speak English and stay married, not high priorities in the swamp).
Good point. I think they will concentrate and pay big for a RING guy. That seems to be Jimbo, Urban, and Mack. I suspect Mack is a non starter. Urban is a mess but LSU probably doesn't care. And then there is Jimbo, who Is best friends w Woodard.
My comment was in reference to LSU looking at him as a replacement for Orgeron not what he's doing at Texas.
As frustrating as the last two weeks have been, I agree. Assuming we don’t completely implode and then lose O line D line recruits.
This will be very entertaining to watch. I don’t really understand why Jimbo Fisher commands the dollars that are rumored, and I don’t think he deserves to be in the same conversation with someone like Saban, Meyers (with all the baggage) and perhaps one or two others like Swinney. Frankly though I hope LSU gets Fisher. What a thrill it would be to observe the Aggie meltdown.
Wanna see a real meltdown? 1) Jimbo jumps to The Country Club 2) Aggies rush to hire Joe Brady 3) 2023 Brady is moves to be HC in the NFL
Let me throw this scenario out there and see what folks think. Perhaps LSU made the announcement about Orgeron now, not only with the intent of going after Fisher, but with a plan of doing so “officially” the day after the season is over, on November 28th. Announcing the change now will plant a seed in the minds of some of the recruits — now — committed to Aggy. And hiring Fisher in late November (their last game is the 27th, in Baton Rouge) would give him two weeks to change minds in advance of the early signing date of December 15th.
I believe Jimbo will most likely be the guy. I also believe Jimbo would jump at the opportunity to go to LSU. aggy gave him a 4 year extension and big bucks, but LSU can probably give him a better deal. I'm sure he'd rather be the HC in Baton Rouge than in malfunction junction.
That is why I am intrigued by Jimbo. Jimbo and LSU AD could cut a deal in 5 mins without any 3rd parties and I think LSU will look for a guy w a ring, like aggie did when he was AD at aggie. Not many choices and the relationship is there (so is the fear of some aggie faithful).
