I was kind of expecting better results for $5 million but that’s just me. I guess $5 million buys you 2 blown leads and an embarrassment blowout in 7 games. But at least they are singing the eyes of Texas. :yippee:

Baby steps. Note Charlie was 6-6 and Herman 6-6 in their first seasons. Charlie lost his bowl game and Herman won.

I just don't understand how this staff could look at this o-line and not see the deficiencies enough to not go looking deep into the transfer portal for any lineman at all. Perhaps there weren't any good ones, but I have a hard time believing that.

I know this sounds crazy, but I think we can/should go 4-1 to close out. The 5 remaining teams on our regular season schedule have just as many issues as we do. If I had to bet on it, I'd say that losing in Ames is probably our 4th and final loss, unless that steamrolls into injuries or something.

8-4 is what a ton of people predicted, and I'll stick with it.

They CAN, but they haven't shown anything that indicates they will win 3 road games.

Its amazing how we can dominate, and get dominated, in the course of one game.

They said an interesting stat during the game. Maybe some of you caught it. Texas is 2nd in CFB in one score games over the last few (I forget h0w many they said) years.

Its like every game is a damn toss up. They didn't say who was # 1 in that stat, but I bet you they are thoroughly average. I am thinking Purdue, or NC State, someone along those lines.
Maybe its about time we admit we are not the Joneses. The recruiting rankings lie. I think we have had thoroughly average talent. Not even close to top 10.

So no, we won't lose to all three Baylor, ISU and WVU. But we will "eek" out a win or two in there, but don't let that get your hopes up.

Maybe its just that we lack depth. That could explain why we can so dominant, and get so dominated, in one game.

That said, recruiting rankings make it seem like we still have pipeline of studs coming in. But not on the LOS. We get a stud or two but that is not enough. And many of the skill position players never do squat. It all starts on the LOS...

Sark has to somehow entice the OLs and DLs to get here. Its how Bama does it.

Recruiting rankings have given Texas a very false narrative of the truth. Charlie couldn't recruit OL, TH couldn't recruit OL and right now Sark has 1 4*, 1 3* and 1 2* that weighs 215 lbs. We aren't contending for NC's, B12 champs and certainly not SEC champs like that. Red, Micheal Dell, the Jamail family or someone needs to step up and offer a NIL deal to some 5* OL's they can't refuse.

I still believe there is something wrong with the general/overall culture surrounding Texas as it relates to the football program. I have been bringing this up for years now (mostly getting bashed for it) and most here just want to talk about coaching.
There is alot more that goes into culture to influence/support a sport like football than just who is the coach. I think we have a larger problem.

I agree, but unpacking the culture-affecting-sport issues (which I think have kind of plagued the university since the 80s) is going to take more than discussing it. We had the student athlete generation (probably like Priest/JB through Ricky) who influenced the next generation to come to Texas (Simms/Redding/DJ/VY/Colt), and then no "natural" leadership pattern emerge post-2009.

Honestly, I don't think anyone has picked up where Colt left off. We had a few pretenders that were either not "gameday" talented or not leaders that tried to take the mantle. We need to start over with Sark.

I promise I will. Again, sorry to be "Doom and gloom", I would prefer to be otherwise. I just wanted to vent I guess. After calming down a bit, I still feel the same way. Just don't see how this team can win any of those road games.

Sure but the context of those seasons is different. We didn't just go 6-7, 5-7, 5-7, we just went 10-4, 8-5, 7-3 (probably 10-3 without the cancelled games). We're 4-3 after 7 games, after starting 6-1, 5-2, 5-2.

Herman was 7-6 coming off of 3 losing seasonsm and we were right there in 5 of the 6 of the losses instead of getting stomped repeatedly. After 7 straight seasons of getting blown out at least twice per year, we lost only 1 blowout in 4 years. In other words, it wasn't a great season by any means but there was noticeable improvement from the very beginning.

Earlier this year we were down 33-7, i.e. 26 points, to Arkansas. In 4 years with Herman we never once trailed by that much (after his first season we only even trailed by 20+ once). We've now blown 21 and 14 point leads in back to back weeks. In the previous 4 seasons we never blew a lead of more than 10. We're 0-3 against the 3 good teams we've played. In other words, we aren't any better than we already were.

I'm not saying fire the guy after half a season obviously, just that we need to stop comparing the purported "bare cupboard" to how little we had to work with after the shambles of 2014-2016. Herman's on-field results were certainly mixed, but they aren't primarily what got him kicked out of here. We should, at the very least, be no worse this year than last.

Indeed, Sarkisian has a lot more to work with than either Charlie or Herman had.

ReaLly no excuse for getting spanked by Arkansas or blowing leads like that.

on the bright side, we have seen this team be very explosive. They also came into OU game with with a good game plan and an edge. They just can’t keep it up for four quarters.

perhaps we should conserve our gas. No brakes is fine. But clearly don’t have enough octane for all gas.

They should have finished the season 11-1. That is now pissed away so losing out is as possible as winning out.

Sark has 330 days to get it figured and sorted out. Otherwise, Alabama is going to hand 80+ on Texas.

With the exception of the o-line, and POSSIBLY TE and LB, I would agree with that.

It all starts with an offensive line. And we don't have one. I don't think the DL is much better. This year is just a series of pop quizzes. We aren't acing them. But no way is this the final grade. If I'm still alive and still care, 2023 is the year of the final.

How quickly we forget that Strong had 17 NFL players on his 2014 roster.

Name the 17 guys on the 2021 roster that are NFL-bound.
    Bijan
    Worthy
    Coburn

Maybe a couple of other practice squad guys.

Anyone with a pulse saw that coming. Arky made that game and aggs as their season. We treated it like another game and got the **** beat out of us. Hell OU almost lost to KU because they treated it like an off week. If you don't come ready to play anyone can beat you. Trouble is this team hasn't figured that out yet.

One could say this about every team in the country. Ask Alabama. Seems like aggie kicked them pretty hard.

    I almost agree with this^^^.

However, We are not as good at O line and LB'r.

We are not nearly as good at QB; arguably the most important position on the field.

Just a reminder - you can sponsor Hornfans for as little as $5 per month. Seeing lots of regular posters who could probably afford this. Dion has to pay the bills - let's all help him out.
