    Old Friends:
Yikes, KA is off to an 0-2 start.
    vs SFA, 50-177
Out-rebounded SFA: 48-37. Typical KA focus
Turnover margin (loss): 34-16. What doomed KA

    vs Abilene, 53-72
    Out-rebounded by ACU: 43-44.
    Turnover margin (won, sorta): 18-19

So ACU was closer and then it must come down to shooting percentage: 29%-49%

I have friends who've moved from Austin to Boerne and they're torn whether to drive into San Antonio to watch Karen's team or the longer drive up to Austin to watch UTBB. They've split the difference by just watching both of them on TV

    Old Nemesis:
LSU beat 82-40 Nicholls, typical Mulkey pounding

LSU lost(!) 74-88 to Florida Gulf Coast. A surprise! Played 8 of her 15 available players probably because they never had the lead. The oft-transferred Alexis Morris is a starter.

Gonna try to catch the next LSU game online to see if they are playing the base Baylor style. Looks like she's having her two bigs Hannah Gusters and Faustine Aifuwa (grad transfer) share playing time

    Still early days.

Tennessee beat S Florida by 3 tonight. The Vols went 0-13 from BTA. After thinking hard, I feel that is like, maybe 0%.

Celeste seems to be doing well at Duke. Glad for her.

Aggy beat DePaul by about 20 tonight. Looking at the box score and other, they are playing small. 4 guards and one forward start. All total, 6 of the 9 players who played significant minutes are guards. So the pressure defense may not be as effective. They did have 17 turnovers with 6 and 5 by two of their guards. Their guards are also bigger than ours. It’ll be a great game.

How in the hell can ANY team ever possibly lose to some scrub school like Abilene Christian?!?!?

Wait, what did you just say?

Fair enough. I figured with the coach replacement it might be OK...

Part of the reason I've been watching Baylor, LSU and UTSA is that old saying that I first heard from Bum Phillips, when he was complimenting another coach:
"He can take his and beat yours. And he can take yours and be his"
The latter, of course, meant that it was coach that was key in turning around a team.

For KA, Texas went from 18-14 under Gail to....a first year of 12-18. Oops. But then it slowly built to 22-12, 24-11 to her peak of 31-5 and an Elite Eight.

Vic took a previous KA team of 19-11 and then got up to 21-10. Not that dramatic of a turnaround, except for the fact that he got us to an Elite Eight at the end of the first year.

Stanford over Portland by 15 after 3RD quarter. Per box score, the guards are struggling.

Iowa State won by 22. The Joen sisters.....each had five 3 pointers. A&M won by 7 against SFA.

I'm surprised the meeting of the #3 team (Maryland) v the #6 team (Baylor) isn't being carried by a larger network than the B10 network.

Baylor gets a break in this match-up as one of the Terps key players, Diamond Miller, is injured and will not play against Baylor. Her absence is signifcant as Miller was named to the All-Big Ten First Team last season. She averaged 17.3 ppg and shot over 50% from the floor.

The Terps will rely on alot of familiar names to fill the void; Angel Reese, Katie Benzan, Mimi Collins and Ashley Owusu. Mississippi State transfer, Chloe Bibby, is still on the roster.

Even with Miller on the sideline, this game will be a good guage of Baylor's progress in the post Mulkey era. They've struggled early against inferior opponents so I will be interested to see if they elevate their play against Maryland.

Maryland’s Ashley Owuso sprained her ankle in the James Madison game Sunday. A big part of her game is her explosiveness to the basket so you gotta wonder if she’s going to be 100% against Baylor as well.

    Agree Racer.

Your post got me following KA at UTSA, lost again to Texas State 62-76 with THIRTY (30) turnovers. You'd think UTSA who outrebounded Texas State 40-21 would have won, NOPE - 30 TO.

    0-3 record with a total of 82 TO, averaging 27.3 TO/game.

Thank you Vic Schaefer! Thank you CDC!

I don't know a thing about UTSA, but they are probably a building project. IMO, Karen is a good coach and should do well if she gets good recruits. Vic, Geno, Tara, or anyone else couldn't do anything without real talent on the floor.

All true. But in almost all years, except one, KA's teams were fairly sloppy with ball handling. i.e. turnovers

This year, with most teams 3 game sin, Texas is tied at #10 with two other teams for the fewest turnovers/game.

UTSA is at #343 out of 348 DI schools.

She always thought she had "the one" PG to distribute the ball, but most of them I wasn't a fan of, except Brooke.

Due to positive Covid tests in the program, Iowa has canceled Sunday’s game with Drake and pulled out of the Cancun Challenge next week. I hope this does not become any kind of trend this season. That can’t be any fun for the team or their fans. I wish them well

I wonder if it’s even possible to have a replacement team in Cancun?

Oklahoma leading Oregon 44-35 at the half. Oregon does have some injuries, but even so...Oklahoma has hit 7 three point shots to 3 for Oregon and is also getting to the free-throw line. Sooners holding their own in rebounding.

98-93 Oregon over OU final. The new OU coach looks a lot like the old OU coach in that we can expect her team to put up a lot of points and give up a lot of points. It's true that this is her first year and has many of the same players used to playing a certain way. But, I believe this was the coach's style at Drake also. We'll see if she can instill some defense over time.

Looking at the box score of the OU game, the 3 leading scorers were their 3 starting guards. Their was a significant drop off to find any offensive player. Since it appears our strength is our guard play, those 2 games could be exciting.

I miss Celeste’s intensity and defensive skills. She likely would have been guarding Horston today and would have muffled her offensive production. I’m happy for her that she had a good game against Bama.

I admit similar thoughts drifted through my brain. I suppressed them. Celeste did what she needed to do for herself. She is gone. I wish her well at Duke. I respect that Celeste played so hard at the end of last season even though she is reported to have already known she wanted to leave.

Well SC came roaring back to take control of the game and win handily. Can’t say I’m sorry to see UConn get beat. SC looks tough.

Same venue South Florida up on Oregon at the half by two in the 3rd Place game. Oregon only suited up 8 players today

Was happy to see UTSA get a victory, then I realized that it was against Incarnate Word. My friends who have been long-time Longhorn fans are now mostly going to UTSA games since they moved to Boerne. Said that Jamie Carey came up to the stands after the game to shake hands and thank them for attending the game. According to the box score, less than 600 people attended the game.

So....Maryland(#3) beats Baylor(#6) 79-76, rises up to #2 and then just lost to NC State(#5) 60-78.

Looking at the box score for Maryland/Baylor both teams used just a total of 7 players each side.
