Remember both wanted to come here but Binder wanted Ewers. Almost immediately after Ewers commitment Klubnik committed to Clemson. After Binder screwed up Ewers commitment and he went to tOSU it was too late to get Klubnik back. One would think with a new regime we would have a chance to lure Klubnik away if he is really unhappy at Clemson except for 5-7.
Clemson sucks at QB. Klubnick probably starts next year. Ewers may sit at least a year. He should swallow his pride and come home.
If you look at teams that over performed based on expectations, they all had mobile QB’s. Why we don’t still recruit them is a mystery to me.
You talking Shea Walker? I don't remember him at QB. Maybe Stump? I had friends on the 1979 Jefferson team. I didn't go there though. Went to Forest Park.
SabreHorn, are you Golden Triangle Guy? Seem to know a lot about TJ,PNG, and Lincoln of the early to mid 70’s.
Born in Ross Strobels" doctors office on Main Street in Port Neches, sentenced to 18 years, and paroled to The University of Texas. Suffered through the two biggest mistakes in Port Neches sports history, but all I miss is Connie Megas' gumbo and it took Connie over 40 years to get it right.
Born at ST Mary’s into a family of TJ grads. Then got moved off to Vidor. My Cuz was from PNG (1973 grad). Thought best team PNG ever had was 73 with Jeff Bergeron and the other tail back that was an Allstate hurdler. Got to UT after stint in Navy and my roommate was 76 PNG grad that played on 76 state champion team. Lot of great players and teams in that era from there.
Did you ever meet Bergeron? Not even the sharpest knife in a drawer full of plastic utensils. Did your dad ever take you to Liberia Park in Beaumont?
Never met him. But I heard as much. How else do you take a scholarship to Houston in 1973. Wasn’t he one of top recruits in the country along with Tony Dorsett. Nor have I heard of Liberia Park in Beaumont.
Bergeron was the 70s version of the greatest athlete to ever come out of PNG - Jackie Hathorne. Jackie went to Texas, started as freshman team QB, then transferred. Jackie started at QB four years at four different schools. He was starting SS on industrial league semi pro baseball team at 13. Difference is that Jackie didn't try; Bergeron is dumber than a bag of hair. Charlie Henry was the trainer at PNG in the mid 70s. He told me in the game against Lincoln and Little Joe, Bergeron called time out after falling down in the huddle. Charlie went out and Jeff told him his "foot was on backwards". Charlie's reply, "You stupid coonass, your sock is just twisted. get up and play ball" Liberia Park was some of the best football you would ever see. Hebert vs Charlton Pollard, full contact, no pads. Two of the greatest players I've ever seen live were at Liberia Park - Warren Wells (greatest WR ever) & a kid named Gale Sayers (Willie Ray Smith, Jr's college roommate.
Ha! In the vernacular of the time he was Big time pot head. Great football and players came out of triangle. Worster and Cotton Speyrer on1969 team to name a few of my childhood hero’s. Can’t believe Little Joe got away. Thanks for sharing your insights on Hornfans SabreHorn. Always learn something from your posts.
you say "arm" but my contention is that he is ALL arm and doesn't have touch on deep balls. he overthrew way more than underthrew.
Charlie Brewer in portal again, didn't think he had any years left. Ole Miss grabbed Gabriel from UCF already...
