Well USC is about to become a powerhouse again.
Perhaps we can get a couple of OU 22 recruits.
    I doubt it though.

    1) Do I really want to live in a dorm with burglar bars?

    2) The only safe place to drink beer in the area is under a freeway exit?

    3) Am I expected to think that 85 year old security guard on Figueroa with no gun is going to protect me from the drivebys?

Better surroundings, no Sooner football monster that has to feed the self worth of Okies, better alumni base, better quality of life, glamor school, higher academics, many high school player recruits suited to his offense and better chance of a shot at the big game against the PAC competition than that of the SEC.

    Did I miss anything?

I’ve lived in SoCal since 1977. Been to that area (So LA) only once, when Texas played there a few years ago. (Have a picture with one of your favorite — HaHa — liberal school presidents to prove it.) You’re right on. Bad area. But that doesn’t deter recruits.

BTW, not only what Ewers is thinking, but what about Devin Brown who just officially decommitted from USC as we all know.

It’s going to be fun to watch.

IMO it's an opportunity for him to define and create his own football legacy, while being paid more than handsomely, and enjoy arguably the best quality of life in the U.S. Is Riley married? If so, me thinks the Mrs. may have weighed in on this decision.

I'm sure the real estate agent in Orange County helped her become acquainted with South Coast Plaza.

The 247 article that LonghornDave linked to in another thread brought up an interesting point. ou has owned the Big 12, has multiple national championships, has been in the NC hunt more times than not - and their head coach just left. Treated as a "stepping stone" in the words of the author. It's interesting to me because ou has kicked our *** (mostly) for years and yet I have never even considered that our head coach (whoever it is) would ever consider leaving for another opportunity.

Lincoln Riley is going to a school where rich celebrities have been willing to commit felonies to get their kids admitted. You think he might have an easier time lining up coveted recruits there than he does luring them to Oklahoma? I mean, I love the Palace on the Prairie... but if my kid was interested in performing arts and could get a full ride to USC... I'd have a hard time talking him or her out of it.

    Crockett,

Walkon actors get paid very well to be "an extra" in movies & TV shows. It's by the day, and you can be paid to sit and wait for your "walkon". It was nearly $300/day fifty years ago. No idea what it is now, but rest assured, lots of players "walking on" movie sets.

If not, my wife, daughters and all of their acquaintances could.

BTW — and this is simply an observation, not a judgment — more than 50% of the traffic at South Coast Plaza is now Asian. Many of the clerks are Asian. If you didn’t know better, you might think that you were shopping in Seoul or Tokyo.

    Duke,

Is that malt shop/burger place still in the garage there? I liked their food. I had seen Minnie Driver on TV and movies and always thought she was about 5'2". I opened the door for her there and discovered she's about 6'.

SabreHorn, my wife and everybody else in my family knows that place like the back of their hand. I avoid it like the plague. I think I’ve been there once in the last 20 years although from 79 to 89 I lived just across the freeway. Long story short, I am unable to answer your question.

Funny story. I almost went there about six months ago due to a dispute with Tumi. Yes, my wife bought an $800 plus carry-on from that company, a piece of luggage that was probably worth about $25. The handle broke, was very sharp — almost like a weapon. I went back-and-forth with Tumi corporate, ultimately reaching the executive office and explaining that if my wife impaled herself on the sharp handle what was broken off and wouldn’t close, they would be looking at a very nice lawsuit. About a day later they dispatched a manager from the South Coast Plaza store to bring us a brand new — and massively overpriced — replacement.

I was an xtra in a movie.
I only got paid $75.00. I was in two scenes. No it was not the romance scenes with the wife. Dennis Quaid got that opportunity.
    "THE ROOKIE"
I was in the stands about the middle of the screen about the middle of the movie.
I decided being a delivery driver was more lucrative so i quit acting.:cursing2:

SAG background gets paid much better than regular non-union background, but there's fewer spots. It also makes a difference if it's filmed in a union or non-union state.

It's a practical decision. He knows that the days of Oklahoma cruising to conference titles are over. And that OU's recruiting advantage dissipates greatly in the SEC.

So Riley took a pay bump to move to LA and resurrect USC. He will likely take his star QB and choice coaching staff with him. To a conference where the competition is less than what he faced in the B12. And a school where he can essentially hand pick recruits from the west coast.

This weakens OU in every way. And has the potential to be very good for us.

And it isn't anywhere close to the USC campus. LR would benefit from a helicopter to get to work if they live in OC.

I'm surprised it took that long to get tired of Norman - you can easily get tired of Norman just driving through on I-35.

There aren't many good choices. Best parts of Orange County are pretty far south. East of USC? Not only no but...West and northwest the cost are high...Reference an earlier post, a helicopter may be required.

    WorsterMan SEC here we come!!

Besides homeless population explosion, oppressive high taxes and F Gavin Newsome as Gov., CA is a swell hell hole.

Some of us in DFW complain about our freeways.

Ha! S. Cal. was my biz territory years ago. Nothing in DFW freeways / traffic compares with traffic in LA on 405, I-5, Hwy 101, 610, etc.
