The late Leonard Nimoy (the ever logical Mr Spock) argued in a made-for-tv program that we may be entering a new ice age.

Sorry, Mr. Spock but an Ice Age is Unpossible with Global Warming. Are we still calling it Global Warming?

Really? How many blackouts did we have in 1989 and 2011? As far as I know we had rolling blackouts but nothing comparable to this.

The difference in conditions wasn't much. In both cases we were on the brink of having major outages like actually happened in 2020 (thus why we were warned both times "winterize the plants before this happens again"), but got lucky enough and fell just short.

"The brutal Buffalo winter might become common all over the United States."

"Climate experts believe the next ice age is on its way."

"According to recent evidence, it could come sooner than anyone expected."

No. Once folks figured out it wasn't getting the attention they wanted, they renamed it to 'climate change.' Now every weather occurrence qualifies as proof.

Anybody remember the ozone hole "crisis" that was going to doom the planet?

When any given manufactured crisis does not result in the desired political outcomes and cash flow for further "study" another one takes its place. That's how global warming morphed into climate change.

So what is the given excuse for doing nothing about the grid?

Don't believe the media claims that nothing was done about it...one of the biggest contributors to the problem last winter was the complete abdication of responsibilities to do hands-on site inspections. Had they actually required people to do so instead of phoning it in via ZOOM or Skype, several of the issues would have effectively been mitigated.

The mass media seems to love overlooking the virtual inspection crap that was allowed in the name of the sniffles.

So they are doing the visual inspections now?

From what has been communicated to me, they have been doing hands-on, in-person inspections.

This comes back to what I said about the fact that investigators SHOULD have been looking at the contracts for the inspections...there was ZERO excuse for accepting virtual inspections last year...Texas was OPEN and we were not in a sniffles lockdown that would have impacted that sort of thing. That Abbott was AG during the last bid-letting scandal with ERCOT and this was not reviewed is concerning...the playbook was already there. And we SAW several go to State-level pound-them-in-the-butt prison in the early aughts...

And should the inspectors come up with recommendations that cost $$$ who enforces the implementation? Is there any penalty if ignored?

Who knows, maybe they can just pay $150 to opt out of the regulation, like the gas companies with that registration.

How about we let all industries pay $150 to opt out of regulations! (Probably just gave a lurking legislator or two an idea…).

Based on the money flowing into Patrick and Abbott's campaign coffers you are lowballing the price by several hundred thousand.

Ha! That’s sort of like the 1980s when Formosa Plastics down on the Gulf Coast supposedly paid about $10k PER DAY (or something along those lines) to violate pollution regulations and keep operating. Just a cost of doing business.

(of course, they’re not the only ones…)

I certainly get the frustration in this statement. And this is coming from a guy that does believe Manmade things/actions are impacting the environment and climate. i just don't believe that we have yet "proved" this to a degree that it justifies blowing up current processes and systems in order to solve a problem that is possible (perhaps even probable) but not yet certain. I hate the climate folks that run every weather event out as evidence of their theory and conclusion. They have for a while been "the boy who cried wolf"

They are actually very selective about that. If we have hot weather or draughts, they'll scream, "climate change!!" If we have cold weather and you ask why that doesn't undermine the climate change narrative, they'll smugly and douchily tell you that you don't know the difference between climate and weather.

Climate change and weather are different. The big problem is putting complex ideas into simple language and examples. In a world where most only accept ideas that confirm previous biases, you are pretty much just pissing up a rope when you try to explain climate change. It's work best left to scientists, though most of us get our info from bloggers or politicians who follow the bloggers.

You're right. Weather and climate absolutely are different. I don't have a problem with them making that point. I just have a problem when it's made selectively. If you're going to say cold weather is distinct from the climate, then you can't scream about the climate just because you got a batch of hot weather.

Did anyone else hear that the holes in the ozone layer repaired themselves? Not sure how, but heard that on a podcast a while back. Maybe we humans don't have to worry every time the wind blows or the world turns.

Your first sentence is true but a diversion. The examples of why climate change is bad is always based on examples of weather. Hurricanes. Heat Waves. Droughts. Etc. These are all weather events.

Global climate is actually nonsensical term to use anyway. The globe has different climates and weather patterns all over it at all times of the day in every day. Hot. Cold. Rain. Drought. Night. Day. Humid. Dry. Wind. Calm. All at the same time.

Climate alarmists use global mean temperature as a talisman for global climate, but it is a meaningless statistic. It doesn't represent any real situation on the earth at any one time and it doesn't explain climate patterns either. Think of it this way. What if the daily high in one place of the world is 100F and the coldest 0F and somehow the average of the day was 50F. Does that tell you anything about anywhere? Not really.

If you actually look at the data. Daily temperature highs aren't going up over the last 150 years. The daily temperature lows are rising a bit though. This is actually a good thing for animal and plant life seeing as cold weather is a much greater killer than hot weather.

We have to be clear the statistics and metrics we use to describe situations. The ones used by climate alarmist or meaningless and dishonest at the same time.

The ozone issue is pretty serious and changing to different refrigerants did help. We've had lots of successes in environmental protection and air and water quality are dramatically improved in many parts of the country.

No, it was because my mom stopped using Aqua Net when I was about 10 years old and went to a pump hair spray instead. Man, I would go past the bathroom right after she doused her head in that stuff and I would walk through a fog that would choke me out.

I bet you made that statement based on assumption. What level of what VOCs were changed over what time and compare that to when the ozone layer recovered. I don't think they even coincide.

So we’re “chilled to the bone” (Texas) this winter…

Cut yer firewood now folks, it could be a cold one.
