Could/would OU players portal to USC?

Trent Dilfer said something interesting on a podcast. He said innovators have to keep innovating in this business. He said Riley's stuff was the best of the best when he had a great OL, Baker and Murray running it. If you don't adapt people catch up to you. And people caught up to him. Look at this season.

My brother said it well Saturday morning. This is one of the few times ever I can remember not enjoying watching this team. Dumb mistakes. Horrible special teams. Celebrating 6 yard "stops" on defense like it was a 6 yard loss.

I had the same thought Sangre. Even thought of responding that Bubba was taunting us. :argue:

I have thought about this a lot ever since he was hired and definitely do not see this as a slam dunk guarantee deal for USC. Best thing I can say is he has a recruiting hot bed and about as easy of a path to the CFP as you can get.
Looked to me like his vaunted offense is pretty pedestrian without an NFL starting QB running it. We will soon find out if he truly has some magic or not....

Yeah, Bubba. I strongly doubt this happened overnight.

Also if you are an OU fan you notice a lot of those OL taking snaps on sundays. https://thefootballbrainiacs.com/sooners-in-the-nfl-2021-season-week-12

a lot of players recruited and developed by stoops are on that list. There are 9 OL playing on sundays, 3 QB’s, and 5RB’s if you count Trey sermon.

Is it ever enough, though? Who wouldn't want their salary doubled?

Rumors tonight are that Roy Manning, OU CB Coach visited players last night and today with Stoops then turned around today and reached out to players on behalf of USC. Can’t make this chit up. What a circus!

I dont always like or agree w Stoops...and I know he's just doing his job to steady the ship (good politicker btw) but I have to agree with him on the OU is about more than one guy comment. I certainly have never viewed Riley as the only reason OU has been experiencing success. They were already experiencing success and have had a very stable program for some time. I believe he made a mark by upping the offensive firepower and continuing strong recruiting...especially at the skill positions raising that level of talent.
But in no way has he made OU OU...that is silly and I believe what you are seeing with any tears for ou, onlookers response, and USC stoked response is more about our current overall climate of hype and perception...running with narratives that get thrown out and repeated and come to be viewed as truth... than it does actual reality. Now, things are changing fast...so who knows.. It is a different deal these days...could end up being a big blow...But my guess is OU will take a brief hit and keep on being pretty much what they have been overall...move to sec and those effects notwithstanding.
I never liked Riley...Seems like a goob and a pretty (too) smooth dude...as evidenced by this weekends events. My lasting impression will be him crying and whining like a baby over Aranda outcoaching him..
I hope all the stores are closed near his home, wildfires produce smoke over his home, Gavin Newsome tells him every move he can and can't make, and he is forced to get a vaccine and take a test and wear 5 masks every time he gets out of his car when he goes to work. ;)
One more thing...I personally am surprised the current players and recruits...or so many of them...are riding the Riley hype and showing less loyalty and faith in OU as a program. The exodus is stunning...and strange to me. I did not realize he had that kind of pull...but I do very much think it says more about our current culture and the kids these days than it actually speaks to him being some kind of rainman.
    Hook 'em ...or whatever..lol

Why didn't Stoops see that at a normal time of the football year like say January?

Because I think in June they all but have to promote from within. It could have been health related too. He had some cardiac things going on in the past. I think Stoops was intimately in sync with Joe C.

The way Texas and ou have been treated by officials in the Big 12, I just can't blame Lincoln from leaving. Texas definitely had ******** calls go against them in conference. Didn't realize how bad it was until officials screwed ou in bedlam.

    Lincoln Riley...this guy.....
Says he and USC didnt take players from ou.
Lol...this guy...must be one of these modern day subjective "reality" truth is not only relative but whatever you say it is guys. I'm not a fan. Here is exact quote from the delusional coach...

"We didn’t take players from Oklahoma,” Riley said, per 247Sports. “We took players from the transfer portal. Those players and their families had to make a decision to either stay at that university, just like any other player has to make, or to enter the portal where then they can be recruited by anybody in the country."

In other news, Lincoln Riley states he didn't really want to leave ou, didn't poach any coaches, never knew he was going to USC until today, doesn't cry and throw fits when he loses and is outcoached, and actually loves puppies.

I'm a bit in awe at how quickly to rose of Lincoln Riley faded in Norman. Heck, the entire program faded in the span of a single 1-2 years after having back to back Heisman QBs.

    Good catch.
There are correlations there with attitudes and ....uh-hem...false platitudes.

I swear I rolled up and was surprised to see OU write that…. I was shaking my head in a yes as I thought this was from a Horn fan.
I think Lincoln made a mistake here.

I will never believe that a record setting recruiting effort from a school that was mediocre at best, in a city that rolls up the sidewalks at 8 and has that psychotic coach pulled this off without BMDs.
Yes, UT benefited from the Pancake Factory- but Sark wouldn’t go on a ridiculous rant if asked about that.
I didn’t know that my dislike of ATM could reach a new low… Jimbos childish crazed ahat face rant took me there.

For me only- I respect OU. I don’t dislike them.
Aggie I have no respect for and are the only team I watch I hopes I get to see their hypocritical fans faces during the 4th quarter in a loss.1CD70F5D-7BAC-4A3C-BDAA-1142A576810F.jpeg 1CD70F5D-7BAC-4A3C-BDAA-1142A576810F.jpeg

That was my first thought as well, but then I remembered how troubling it was for me that Dr Boren retired. The new guy is not Dr Boren, and from what I've seen so far, he is a jerk with little or no interest in the athletic department. I have to question if Linc leaving for Exposition has more to do with the new president than it does with how wonderful the back side of the 110 is.

The NFL experience (yuck!) has come to college football.

Think of the NIL as salary cap money. If a school doesn't have a lot of high dollar jocks on the payroll, they have a lot of cap space for new recruits.

If they do have businesses and boosters paying big bucks, then there's less money for new players, so they'll go elsewhere - just like how NFL Free Agents will get signed by teams with lots of available cap room.

Speaking of Free Agents - going forward, a coach hired from another team will be expected to pide-piper his best players over to the new school, as well as any recruits he was working on that year.

Because I think he wanted no question about who should take over the program and he knew he was handing LR a Ferrari so he was leaving the program way better than he found it. Look at the roster from that year? Mayfield, Murray, Sermon, Anderson, Ceedee, Hollywood, Andrews, Orlando Brown, Powers, Evans, Cody Ford, Dru Samia, Austin Seibert, Gallimore, Okoronkwo, Murray, Bolton, Motley, and Parker were all future NFL players (Samia may not have played but is still on the Jets practice squad and Anderson suffered multiple ACL's).

I think Stoops had burned out from going as hard as he had gone and had lost the passion and he wanted to be free to watch and support his kids.

I dont particularly like him either but getting caleb williams and mario williams from ou and what talent USC already had, they will be formidable. Also taking Alex Grinch with them will help their D so I see it as an all around improvement to USC. The QB is the only reason that Texas didnt hang a dog nut in them last year and although its hypothetical, I also think that would have drastically changed the mojo of our team.
