Anyone hearing news about Texas bringing on GP in some type of defensive role? I have some people saying word is starting to circulate on other platforms. Not seeing anything yet.
Very difficult to believe. Like all successful HCs, Patterson has a big ego, too big to accept a permanent displacement into the TCU Athletic Department. It's also a slap in the face to Coach K (not that he doesn't deserve it). With someone like Bill Bradley, Sark could easily sell it to K as something influential lettermen wanted to do to help Bill out (not that Bill needs "help", our D "needs help).
Local radio was tossing the idea around of bringing him in as an advisor or assistant DC or something like that, but that was not news just them talking. Said it would put pressure on coach K to get the defense in order ASAP or he could be gone the next year. I'm not sure why Patterson would want to come in as an assistant of any kind.
Vol, Thanks. Another shining example as to why I haven't listened to sports talk radio in a couple of decades.
I'm with you on that, SabreHorn. If I'm driving between 10:00 and 12:00, I'll tune 96.7 (The Ticket) and listen to Norm Hitzges - he does his homework and usually knows what he's talking about. If I'm channel-surfing on the FM dial and happen to find Cooperstein, I'll listen to him. Otherwise I get a lot better satisfaction listening to WRR (Classical music).
According to sources, Texas and Gary Patterson have chatted about the former TCU head football coach joining Steve Sarkisian’s staff in some capacity, likely as a defensive analyst. https://www.star-telegram.com/sports/spt-columns-blogs/mac-engel/article256291472.html
I don't want that fat *** anywhere near UT. I don't give a spit if he invented defense. He's a loudmouth, UT hating, ego maniacal, heart attack waiting A hole.
That's all for show and recruiting. His wife graduated from UT. If he ended up here as a defensive analyst it would be very helpful.
Or as opposed to those sooner UT hating highschoolers on the ticket, Ozzie and Harriet might be a good choice.
I would have laugh this off just a few years ago, but anything is possible in this new era of free agency...
Bill's defense at Baylor was miraculous. I would submit his defense against OU goes down with Rick Lantz' defense against FSU, and Leon Fuller's defense in the 1979 OU game as perhaps the three best performances I've ever seen. Of course, I'm discounting the 1975 PNG defense in the second half against Galveston Ball. The Ball coach would later tell me that was the best defensive effort he had seen in all his years of coaching. (Ball never got the ball across their 40 yard line.)
So the thing I loved about the Sark hire was that it was an OU type move. The thing I like about hiring Patterson is this is a Sabin type move. Looks like Sark did learn a thing or two. FWIW, I like Sabin and Patterson's results. Don't give a dang about their personalities although I am very good friends with more than a few a holes. In part because they usually are the most honest people you will meet. This team (and I) don't need nice, we need "kindness" born in truth and a commitment to what is best for the University even if it hurts or causes ringing in our ears.
Why do you hate him so much? He sure owned us most of the time. I think he would be a great addition to our defense. Tell me what Big 12 coach doesnt dislike texas and they are all egomanics.
I believe GP would be a very solid addition as a Defensive Analyst to help PK. It seems PK was surprised early on by the poor linebacker play and ability to adapt to his system. GP has developed some serious LB's at TCU!
