You do know that Jeff George was the No.1 Draft pick and had a great 1989 season. If that is what you meant, then I am on board with him joining UT.

I agree with you. I don't care how Manning performs in the NFL. Just win a lot of games here.

Maybe the report is incorrect. Maybe Evers signs with us. And maybe he wins a Heisman. Maybe. Maybe Maalik Murphy is a raw, prospect that needs lots of work. However, right now, I see MM as someone who makes up his mind, sticks with us through tough times, appears dedicated to putting in the work to improve, isn’t afraid of competition, (committed with the knowledge that we would take another quarterback in the class and were after Arch in ‘23), is a leader in the recruiting class, and led his HS team to the state championship while playing in his Senior year. Right now, MM checks all of the boxes for me while QE raises a lot of red flags I’ve seen too many times with our previous 4 an 5 star flops. If QE signs and wins the starting job, great. If he wants to sign and have the job given to him, well then have fun in big, beautiful Lubbock.

Completely agree. Murphy is the one who has been loyal to this team from the beginning and he has more upside than any QB in that class imo. If we don’t get Ewers then I won’t be upset. Maalik is the guy you want right now from a culture standpoint.

I take it you have never met Jeff George or his parents. I wouldn't wish that trio or any portion thereof on anyone I know. Ever since meeting them when he was still at Purdue, I have used him as a poster boy for "headcase". In fact, when OU got their commitment from Rhett Bomar, I called Bobby Jack and Bob Stoops to congratulate them on winning their own version of Jeff George. The only difference was that is seemed Bomar's mother was different from George's.

I don't care if the guy was drafted #1, won five Super Bowls, and a gazillion dollars. I did not and do not want him anywhere near Austin.

It has never been implied that the Ewers in any way were like the Georges. In my world, to suggest or compare them is an insult until they prove differently.

That said, Ewers walking out on his HS team and Riley is very troublesome.

Well, despite his superior QB whispering and QB coaching skills..... while considering the current program situation at UT, IMO Sark will need to use his very best selling skills to WOO Ewers back to UT.

^^^ I remember reading from some of you how much negative stuff his parents heard from other current UT player parents about TH that turned him away from going thru with verbal to UT.

Roach from 247 had a second-hand family source tell him it will be Texas for QB Quinn Ewers.

Texas Tech's 247 site isn't nearly as confident as they were, and that Ewers will be taking a step back to evaluate.

I have never met Jeff or his family or the Ewers. Unfortunately, I did not have the benefit of all the knowledge that you have about them. I do appreciate you sharing though. I also was not implying but asking if you meant his success on the field. You only asked the question QE=Jeff George? Also, did not hear about Ewers walking out on his HS team?

Ewers opted to not play his senior year after losing the State Championship game last year. He opted to go to Ohio State rather than play his senior year. I do not know them, but have friends that live in the neighborhood and indicated they are good people.

It makes me wonder when a kid does that, just like I question kids leaving their team to go to IMG Academy. I thought Ewers would want another shot at Westlake & there QB, as well as his HC's dad.

Southlake looked great yesterday against Allen. I watched it on my laptop. Riley Dodge is like his dad, it's a conveyor belt of QBs up there.

Actually I asked the question, QE=Jeff George.

Also, “walking out on his team” is a reference to Ewers choosing to forgo his senior season which certainly is not common. (BTW, SLC is doing just fine without him.) At least for me it raised a red flag. Regardless, I will be very pleased if he chooses Texas, and if he does, I’ll hope for the best.

I read that it was more of a business decision to graduate early and sign the NILs. I believe there were multiple ones but can't confirm that. I personally cannot fault them for that. I am sure his SLC teammates probable would have also taken the NIL money.

    DCW,

It was later reported that NIL was in seven figures. What kid would pass that up, but we didn't know that when it happened.

    Duke,

I was actually asking the same question as I thought it was an insult.

I cannot deny that pocketing a cool mil at the age of 18 is a strong argument, especially when the opportunity could evaporate with one injury. On the other hand, there’s something to be said that if a player keeps working hard and focusing on improving his game, the NIL benefits will take care of themselves.

This sounds a lot like the Colt McCoy-Ryan Perriloux situation back in the day. MM is Colt in this comparison so he is my guy. For you youngsters (or oldsters who don't remember) Colt had committed to us, then we got a commitment from 5-star Louisiana QB Ryan Perriloux. Colt was asked if he was going to change his commitment - his reply was, "I'm going to Texas no matter what." Perriloux ended up decommiting and then going to LSU, where he eventually got kicked off the team, but I knew then Colt was a gamer because he was not afraid to square off against what looked like a far superior opponent.

True, with (I believe) some important differences:

I doubt that anyone could have predicted how good Colt would be. I think he came in as an unheralded 3-star.

I don’t believe Ewers sinks to the category of Perrilloux, but that remains to be seen. I will add that the ceiling — the consensus — for Ewers is believed to be a starting QB in the NFL, and a good one.

I thank God for unanswered prayers. i.e. Ryan Perriloux. What a mess. Wish I would have kept emails from LSU fans when he flipped in a very insulting way.

Roach seems to think between us and Tech. If it's Texas, we will know by Wednesday. Sark wants an early commit to help with his in visits this week.
