I guess I haven't been paying enough attention. What is the "national acclaim" that Rori is receiving? Is it awards or more like media acknowledgement?
I likely exaggerated when I wrote that sentence. During the games (ESPN and SEC Network), the broadcast crew has gushed over Rori. I should have tempered my enthusiasm (or curbed my enthusiasm for the Larry David fans). Thanks for keeping me honest. Hopefully Rori will receive national acclaim in the near future.
They didn’t livestream the game and it hasn’t been posted on their YouTube channel but here are some Ndjakalenga highlights from her first game…
The DallasMNews mentioned the score of the DeSoto vs Duncanville game. But never includes the box score so I can see who had a good offensive game. I wasn’t paying attention to the schedule as I wanted to go see the game. Last year was good in that there was a big fight, suspensions, huge crowd, etc. They’re in the same district so will try and catch their second game in January. Aminu passes the eyeball test from highlights. Sure would like to watch her overall game. Plus get to see Smith and Herron and all the guards. And Duncanville.
I very excited for the addition of Amina to our roster next year. From her highlights, she plays fast and physical. She reminds me of Rickea Jackson, one of Vic's recruits/players at Mississippi State.
I’m looking forward to next year’s team. Pardon me for looking ahead…..as I like this year’s team. But…..The 3 high school recruits will completely (almost) change the team. All three are long and athletic wing players. As much as I appreciate JAT and Warren…..when they get replaced with these three……it sure will be different. I find it hard to envision games where we get beat on the offensive glass….like Princeton game. We’ll give up some skills we’ll miss ……but close off some size deficiencies.
Ndjakalenga, come on down! She sounds like a great team player and someone who will thrive under (put up with?) Vic.
For anyone who hasn’t gotten to see Amina play and has ESPN+, Friday. DeSoto takes on the #1 overall recruit in the 2022 class, Lauren Betts.
I’m all-in. Those teams in the invitational are all tremendous. Interesting in the top 25 that Sidwell has only played 7 games and is Number 1 and defeated DeSoto earlier. DeSoto ranked Number 2 has played 21 games, Duncanville 29 and most other teams are in the mid-teens of games. We had a discussion a few years ago why the discrepancy and there are a myriad of reasons. Private vs public, state rules, geography, focus, and others. The discussion satisfied my curiosity but I still marvel at the variation.
DeSoto beat Mansfield Lake Ridge by 30 last night. Muhammad had 19. Marshall for Lake Ridge who is the area’s leading scorer was held in check. Boutilier had 2 points for Flower Mound in a 15 point win over Flower Mound Marcus.
No idea about minutes. Only box score. Five players scored with the other four ranging between 11 and 20 points.
Been wondering if there are any new PG targets for us (now that Chevalier has transferred out). Perhaps a (backup) PG will instead come from the transfer portal; or, heck maybe Joanne Allen-Taylor will decide to stick around for her super-senior season (and play some backup PG when needed). On the other hand, Matharu is proving she can play some PG effectively (5 assists at ISU); perhaps Vic won't decide to bring in another true PG for next season.
I think Vic has alluded that Allen Taylor and Warren will graduate and move on after this season. Ebo is still in the air
I recall that; but, that was before Chevalier decided to transfer and open a 'ship for next season. All this movement is fluid, so we'll know in a few months.
It’s my main course for tonight. With DeSoto having the huge front line of Muhammad, Herron and Smith it will be a good match to see if Betts at 6’-7” and number one recruit in nation can dominate…..or if DeSoto can neutralize her. DeSoto has very good guard play as well.
