Yep, the B1G lowered its standards for NU. I think they stick to their academic guns with further expansion. Thoughts?
I think they try. But in this arms race (if it comes down to it), I think they will ultimately sacrifice academic purity on the altar of the almighty dollar.
I think they'd hold their noses and admit OU if it meant UT would join. I don't think they'd do the same if it were OU and Kansas.
These schools meet B1G academic standards: 1) Iowa State 2) Kansas 3) Virginia 4) North Carolina 5) Georgia Tech IMO the B1G will expand south at the earliest opportunity.
Wasn't Nebraska a member of the AAU (American Association of Universities - Tier 1 research) when they moved to the Big 10? I think they've lost that accreditation since then. If true, how do you lose that accreditation? Were there repercussions at NU with the administration? As I understand it, AAU membership is not easy to obtain.
Correct. Nebraska loses AAU status I wonder if Neb's access to the B1G research consortium will allow it to regain membership.
NU was voted out by the AAU 9 months after they joined the B1G. Allegedly Michigan and Wisconsin wanted them gone. Based on articles online, Nebraska was on the verge of being voted out ten years earlier. It doesn't seem that it harmed NU in any way.
Agree the Big 10 will expand south, but they should be doing it now. If they continue to wait, the SEC will grab those ACC schools. Everyone would leave the ACC for the Big 10 or the SEC, but no one will leave the SEC for the Big 10. With Texas and Oklahoma in the bag, the SEC is surely looking at UNC and Virginia next.
I listened to an enthralling podcast by Malcolm Gladwell on tier ratings. LUDICROUS. A 2 parter. Lord of the Rankings - Pushkin
Yep. Both those schools have some interesting choices to make. Dollars to donuts both are watching Texas /OU's exit from the B12 GOR.
UT was successful in the Big 12, just not much the past decade. Nobody thought aggy would be average at best but they are. If aggy can do it we certainly can do better.
Nobody except for everybody. aggy was a constant 3-4 in the Big XII and remains a constant 3-4 in the $EC West.
Ranked 5 out of 7 in the SEC SEC SEC west is not "average". 9 Million a year, will buy a lot of beer, but it won't eliminate battered aggie syndrome. Ferk.
The consensus was that A&M would be continual bottom feeders. Heck, Thujone summed it up with a ShamePaint where every SECW mascot gave the Aggie a vigorous rogering.
ESPN hasn't given UT enough money? $150 million so far right? Not to mention all the costs of starting up and maintaining the LHN.
