Good luck to Wiley, great size and speed, don’t know why he didn’t reach his full potential.
This will make mchammer happy, now down to 3 tight ends on the roster.

Very disappointed to see Jared Wiley leaving. We continue to underdevelop and underutilize tight ends. Kept hearing he had NFL potential and he looked the part to me what few times I got to see him actually called upon. Two plays in particular late in the season this year were eye opening...in a good way...but these were about the only times I can recall seeing his number called all year. Failing to utilize and exploit the tight end position in this era of football is a huge mistake.
Most elite and high level teams in both the NFL and college utilize the tight end position very frequently...and if you do not see this..and do it...you likely will not be very successful.
Not sure why he left...but my guess is feels he isnt being given enough of an opportunity.

Texas TE Jared Wiley enters the NCAA transfer portal

    Rain,

We used our TEs more as trapping tackles than receivers, but when your OGs & OTs are such lardasses that they can't trap, you adjust. Even David Thomas and Lawrence Sampleton would have been wasted with this offensive line.

The TE as receiver thing doesn't really work if you can't use him on most downs as a blocker. With our OL, we really could not afford to have another guy on the line who could not block. I agree Wiley was the better receiver/runner between him and Brewer, but when it came to blocking, Brewer was vastly superior.

You both raise valid issues. Here's to hoping it is very high on Sarks list to correct this...so we can compete at a higher level utilizing all weapons fully.

Too bad about Casey - I really like him. Still, all of this helps us rebuild the team quicker, which we need.

Looks like we might have got Dunlap from Minnesota as well. That would be a great pickup.

Really hope the kid goes somewhere that I can cheer for him. He gave us all he had when so many weren't even giving their minimum. Wish him nothing but the best.

Again, the new staffs at Tech, TCU, SMU, Colorado State seem like really good opportunities.

Sad to see him go, but I'm not surprised. Honestly, your best receiver on the team is openly campaigning for Quinn Ewers to come to Texas, that can't have been too pleasant to watch for Casey OR Hudson - but particularly Casey since he clearly was the starter of choice by year's end.

I really hope this lights a fire for Card and he goes out and takes ownership of this team during the spring. I have no doubt Ewers will be great, but I'm not convinced he needs to be our day 1 starter. Which means Card needs to be ready to go against Bama.

The same poster on 247 who has been correct about everything (#22Effect) that has happened so far because he's on the same group chat as several of the players said that both Thompson and Card are gone. Card was still waiting for some things to clear from other Power-5 schools before pulling the trigger.

He also said we're on the verge of some big 2023 recruiting news as well.

Inside Texas is saying as of today that they expect him to stay, but hey, what do they know. I could see why Card would leave as well, but hoping he doesn't. But at the same time, if a guy doesn't believe he can win the job from an incoming freshman no matter how good he is, then maybe that points to an issue as well.
