Maybe we can get GP to roam the sidelines during the game and chew out some *sses like general Patton.
    That gruntles me!

I'm all for better defense and I think he will make the defense better.
Plus, it looks like there is really a possibility of it happening.

    I think you mean 1977.
In 1975 we had a 9-1 record and didn’t make the playoffs (lost a head to head w LaMarque). I was at the 77 game in the Dome. IIRC it was a tight game until a GB defensive back shoved a PNG player into a set of concrete stairs near the back of the end zone (the PNG guy had just scored). I’m not sure the player returned.
It was a completely classless act that spurred the enraged Golden Triangle boys to open the proverbial can of whoop *** on my fellow islanders. Not much of a game after that (unless you were an Indian fan).

You are correct. The WR was the grandson of Luke & Ailene Freeman, who owned the L&A Grocery, where 95%+ of citizens bought their groceries and everyone had a charge account. When young Mr Griffin went down, the Ball coach later told me, "I ceased thinking about winning, and started trying to figure out how we kept 35,000 coonasses from killing us.

He also said that before the game, his team was standing at the entrance to the Oilers locker room, when the Ball cheerleaders started the "We've got spirit, yes we do, we've got spirit, how about you". He said that his cheerleaders led about 700 fans in the chant, and then 30,000 coonassses responded. He said he looked at his team and they looked terrified.

Didn't that DB go to OU, but wasn't he one of the ones in the transcript scandal?

Negative on all accounts. Basil Banks (#17 on the OU roster) had graduated the previous year. Superb athlete who could have gone on to do great things at the collegiate level and perhaps the next if he could have laid off the ganja. A friend and teammate of his told me once he had to put the pads in his uniform pants before a game his senior year because Basil couldn’t figure out how to do it. Good kid deep down but he had demons.
Kerry Jackson and Mike Phillips (transcript guys) were freshman on the 1972 sooner team. Joe Woolley got fired as the GB head coach for the transgression and replaced by Bill Stages who had his days at CC Ray back in the 50’s and early 60’s but just didn’t click with the players. The players wanted Leon Bedford (Vance’s daddy) to get the job, but apparently a bunch of 16-17 year olds didn’t have a lot of say in the matter. We had a really talented roster and won four games that year.
We’re you acquainted with Jim Stroud?

Name is familiar but I don't remember. Didn't one of those HCs go to A&M?

Jim Stroud was the head coach @ BHS from 75-~77 and took the Baytown Lee job. He worked on the North Texas staff for a time. Corky Nelson was an honorary pallbearer at Strouds funeral in 2014 and died himself about a week later.

DKR blamed Corky for the "Free Earl" bumper stickers being sold and displayed in Smith County back in 76.

i get that in general. Rod Babers on The Horn in Austin, 104.9 FM (i think), knows a thing or two about the game of football. once i got used to his speaking style, i started liking him. He has a good player's perspective, anyway, imo...

I recall angleton playing ball high on a Saturday afternoon back in 1970. Of course it was hot and humid and had rained the night before, so they put hay on the sideline which made it all much worse.
Kerry Jackson and Whitney Paul were tremendous athletes.
I don’t recall the center’s name, waddleman or waterman in my mind, but before every offensive snap for Ball, the announcer would say, “Waddleman over, Jackson under.”

Patterson has kicked our butts so many times with much lower ranked recruits. I wouldn’t mind having him consult and analyze more than just our defense. He should take a look at our S&C, pre-game stretching, position coaching drills, a bunch of things.

    Maybe not nutrition though…

You never know, but Sark's comments in the article (far down) doesn't sound like it's imminent

Texas Longhorns hire USC running backs coach Tashard Choice to same position

As Sarkisian works to fill out his 2022 coaching staff, he addressed reports that he may be interested in hiring former TCU head coach Gary Patterson. Sarkisian expressed great respect for Patterson and admitted that he was not sure how the former Horned Frogs coach would want to continue his career.

“I've got, obviously, a great deal of respect for Gary,” Sarkisian said, applauding Patterson for his body of work over 24 seasons with the Horned Frogs, including 21 as the program’s head coach. “He’s done a fantastic job. Really built that program into what it is and to make it one of the more desirable jobs in the country, I give him a lot of credit for that. I know that he's trying to figure out in what capacity does he want to continue this profession. We have not made any determination on if we would want him here or if he would want to be here, but the reality of it is there's definitely a level of respect for the job that he's done at TCU.”

That is what Sark said at the presser on signing day.
Has he made any statements since Coach K's supposed meeting with Patterson?

    Not that I know of.

If I were Sark I'd be uncomfortable with GP around. His first year didn't go well to say the least. Having an accomplished HC on campus for year 2 doesn't add much comfort.

Either way, I hope we improve. A bunch

I don’t follow your logic. Gary wouldn’t threaten Sark’s job and his perspective should be welcomed. It would be useful if accurate; ignored if not helpful. But additional insight as to opponent’ weaknesses and how to exploit them: to me that’s welcome advice.

Patterson hasn't done that well at TCU the last few years. And he was let go for a reason. His full resume has three great years on it in the Big XII, but overall? I don't know that he's all that and a box of chocolates. I've said many times I don't want him. I dislike him. But I don't have any pull. If Sark thinks he needs him, I hope he gets him. Sark knows more than I do.

I do believe those comments were made earlier in the week...and then the rumors of something maybe being in the works came out early Saturday....but, either way, wouldnt put much stock in it.
I personally have mixed feelings on Patt.
I could see him playing a large and positive role in influencing our defense....and I could see things going badly, also.
