Don’t know if Patt could handle the humility required to go with an ‘analyst’ type role. Maybe yes, maybe no, just question it as an observer not someone with any personal knowledge.

What humility? He gets to stay around the game, offer advice and be paid for it, and not have the insane hours an active coaching job demands. Sounds like a hell of a nice semi-retirement gig if you ask me.

If Patterson is actually interested in the DC job, pay him and get rid of the idiot posing as a DC we have now. Get the best coaches.

Butch - remover those suspenders type straps that we had to wear that attached to your sock and then crossed over and hooked to you shirt? Maybe we get him some of those. Hated these ridiculous mandated shirt stays.

I think it has more to do with a circumference issue. A pear shaped physique is conducive to gravity battling a belt.
    But these would help.

Yeah, until one releases from said sock and is propelled into the groin area.
Add that now to walking around with an elastic strap protruding out the bottom of your trousers while you search for a place to disrobe and reattach.
    These are horrible devices.

And he moves from FTW to ATX.
I can say that; I live in FTW.
As long as you live in ATX you’re good, living in R Rock and traveling to ATX is a clown show.
And buying a 50’s era 809 sq ft pier and beam for $1.2 is worse.

Found something called Magnetuck. I seriously hate it when my shirts come untucked. This is a major problem.

    Now back to Patterson.

Gary Patterson's career record is better than Sark's, and not by a little bit. GP is more accomplished as a HC. That would be a concern for any coach in Sark's position.

Agreed on the past few yrs being average for TCU, but having grown up in FW it boggles my mind that they could be THAT good for so long. They were so bad for so long in a town that didn't care if TCU existed or not for the most part. To (a) sustain a winner at TCU, (b) get FW interested in TCU is a major accomplishment.

Gary Patterson poses no threat to Sark's job any more than Dick Tomey did to Mack Brown. If he joins the department in some capacity, it should never be construed as "head coaching/vulture in waiting".

Patterson did an incredible job working the business community in Fort Worth to improve fund raising and attendance. Don't forget it was the team of Gary Patterson & Chris Del Conte that changed the gameday atmosphere into "an event" in Fort Worth while engaging the business community, much of which was educated two hundred miles South in Travis County.

Our defense needs HELP, and Patterson has demonstrated he can scheme around lack of talent. He has also demonstrated he can schmooze with the BMDs to get into their wallets.

As I see it, CDC & Sark can offer Patterson all the fun with none of the headaches of being part of building a championship program.

I personally can see this both ways. I can see a long time head coach viewing this either of the two ways you both present....depending on their current mindset and goals...Sark alluded to this very thing himself in regards to Patt.

I’m ok with Patterson if something can be negotiated. But I’m not sure I understand what his role would be. Would he change how Kwiatkowski runs the D? Can’t imagine that. So, I’m not convinced that adding GP is necessarily the best solution. I do believe that Sark will do something to fortify that side of the ball. Maybe a co DC that no one is anticipating.

Basic question: If Sark believes that Kwiatkowski needs help, why not simply replace him if the right candidate is available.

Yeah, I wonder how it undermines a DC to have someone come in as an "analyst".

Name please? I don't have one that will take the job.

I, for one, would call Blanco and contract with Bill Bradley to "consult", and YES, correct K's deficiencies and really gameplan for particular opponents - see also Alabama, OU, UTEP, and Mike Gundy.

If Sark feels he can help I am fine with Patt coming, not that it matters but to think going from HC to an aide, analyst, or even DC takes some humility because believe what you will it is a humbling move. Perhaps just my opinion but it’s what I think.

You have been proposing Bradley for years. I agree. And if ever the circumstances were ideal, this would seem to be the time. But I assume that it will never happen.

    Duke,

The deal has to be structured properly, and while not all that complex, educrats cannot understand it. Perhaps since Hatzell comes from the business school, which I hope teaches/preaches wealth preservation & asset protection, it may be easier; the Berzerkley liberals would never try to understand it, and certainly not that midget engineer.

Mack Brown won 10 games every year for awhile before Tomey came to Austin. Of course he wasn't threatened by Tomey's presence.

Sark struggled to win half that many in what has become a much weaker conference. It would be understandable if he looked over his shoulder, even if GP didn't want the job.

At his age I wouldn't think GP would be a good fit. My angle is how sark would view GP. Hell, F.A. Dry would be an improvement over what we saw last year

Didn't FA Dry win something like 30% of his games at TCU?

    Weaker conference??

Baylor and OSU were both top 10 teams at one point. When was the last time that happened? Probably never.

You get no argument from me on this. I grew up in Ft Worth and still have family there. I was part of the Knothole gang as a kid. I think tickets cost, I kid you not, 25 cents to sit in the end zone. And it was still empty most of the time. No coach in my lifetime has given TCU more credibility than Patterson. My point more than anything is that he's not a magician. Maybe he helps, maybe he doesn't. It sure as hell isn't my call.

Both are 2 loss teams. Please, that's not excellence

TEXAS, no longer a national power
    Nebraska, gone
    A&M , gone
    Mizzou, gone
    Colorado, gone

While they were here. the defectors had seasons when they lost 2 games too. This conference is dying for good reasons

Dry couldn't possibly have been as funny as Gene Stallings at A&M. At least 5-6 times in his 30 minutes, he'd say, "Ain't gonna say nuthin bout tha ficiatin'"

And both are seriously over rated by playing patsies in non conference then padded by playing in a crappy conference. Both teams would be beaten easily by any other top 10 team.

Vol, both the AP and the CFP would probably not agree with your assertion that Baylor and OSU “would be beaten easily by any other top 10 team.” In fact, I would probably go with either in a contest against Ole Miss (CFP 8) or MSU (CFP 10), Since Baylor is playing Ole Miss in the Sugar Bowl, we will know soon enough. Aranda seems to answer every challenge. OSU beating ND in the Fiesta may be a taller order, but it wouldn’t shock me either.
