Before I saw this I was just coming here to post that KH wasn’t even on the bench.
    I’m convinced she’s transferring. Well damn. :(

Kind of wondering if this may be the "dirty laundry" that Vic was referring to in the presser following the Tech game.

I think I mentioned in another thread that I thought she'd transfer. If so, that's too bad...we'll never know what kind of player she could have been as a Longhorn.

Texas really needed this game so some folks could get some much needed playing time. Other than that, I don't think this was a stellar performance. Too many turnovers and too many points left at the line.

Transfers are going to happen as they do with just about every team / sport across the country. What really hurts is when you lose a transfer during the season (like Chevalier), especially at a position without a lot of depth/experience. There are no options to add any (transfer) players during the season. So, if you lose players from your roster, especially with COVID concerns which will most likely be affecting players all season, your depth is really gonna hurt.

If this ends up being the case with Kyndall Hunter, it also hurts our 3-point shooting against zone defenses.

I agree with your point of view.. Thankfully we have Kobe and Shay coming along. And Matharu, of course, along with 3 point shooting improvement from both JoAnn and Audrey.

Not sure what Kyndall did to get in Vic’s doghouse. Lack of effort in practice, not following coach’s instructions, negative attitude, whatever it is it started a ways back since she has played very little since that game where she scored so many 3’s. I also wondered about the “dirty laundry” comment.

We have them until we don't (COVID).

I mean, Kyndall started the game at OSU like a week ago; and, yes, mainly due to the health of other players. But, the point being that she was NEEDED to step in.

I must have missed it, what was Vic’s comment about dirty laundry?

I still don't understand why Shay doesn't get more PT. And to a lesser extent Lauren. Shay was 2/3 and is always hustling up and down the court. Lauren had the highest PPM of all players. And while there were a lot of sloppy tunovers from everyone else, turnovers from these two players - 0.

You would have to go back to the post game press conference after the Tech game and listen. He just said something to the effect of he doesn't like to air the dirty laundry, but that there was some. He said that he would definitely fix it, and that he expected that Audrey and Joanne would step up and help him fix it.

Box score said that there were 1,956 people in attendance. Mmmm, maybe they also counted the police/security/food vendors in and around the stadium. I can NOT believe that number.

    1. It is so obvious that they worked on rebounding between the Tech game and today. I saw players constantly slap the ball away to (hopefully) a teammate when it was obvious they couldn't get the ball themselves. Haven't seen that much of that type of play until today. 51-28 in rebounds. I would say that was good coaching.

    2. Aaliyah Moore with 15 of those rebounds. Welcome back!

    3. I'm worried about the significant rise in our turnovers.

Also: The attendance was so sparse you could hear Vic talking to his players while they were dribbling near him. He was talking to them and not yelling and it was odd to hear encouraging words said to the players:

"Good, good, good. You're doing good."
"Rori, that's good. You're doing good."
    "Way to seal Aaliyah"

Oh great, here we go again. IMO, Hunter has great promise. Like some others, I've been afraid almost from day one, when it was obvious she wasn't going to play much, that there were going to problems and probably a transfer. As I said previously, I got a little concerned even last year when Vic was talking about his new recruits that he wasn't putting much store by Kyndall. He absolutely raved about Rory in every interview I heard, but wouldn't say much about Kyndall. This is a team that badly needs offensive threats. Our 4 and 5 players are going to have trouble competing with the best teams (or even Tech level teams), so we had better have outstanding outside shooting. I'm very bummed out.

This team looked very mediocre to me today. Just saw the first half, but Andrea Lloyd certainly though we were having trouble with their zone. No surprise there.

You all probably know this. I haven't kept track much. Kyndall was a McDonald's All-American. Was the Houston Chronicle girls player of the year for the Houston area. Was Offensive MVP of CyCreek's district. Her defense, along with her offense, was highly praised by the ESPN high school evaluators. Such a mystery, why she has seen the floor so little since coming here (other than her injury).

I wish Ashley didn't quit the team so soon. I think she would be getting a lot of playing time now. IMO, Rori is not playing at the level we expected after the first two or three games. I don't think Joanne is a natural point guard at all. Ashley was.

Yeah our attendance is pretty embarrassing to say the least but I attribute that to the competition we play at home. It just wasn’t an exciting non conference home schedule and to nobody’s fault but hopefully next year will be better. Covid is also shredding through Austin right now so that also has a lot to do with it.

From what I’ve seen she also seems very clutch and accurate when she does take the few shots she does. IMO they should run more plays for her and let her keep draining her shots. She’s coming along very well!

    At times, I wonder.

You may or may not like Vic as a coach. That's your prerogative. But as long as he's our coach, every player has to be accountable on defense if they want to play, no matter how much offense they may bring.

It's not complicated. Kyndall has a hard decision to make.

There's a new methodology now being used to measure attendance. Multiply actual attendance X 19.

I watched the post-game press conference with Vic, Ebo & Matharu. I was struck by the lack of smiles or enthusiasm. If you watch it with no sound, you might think they had just lost again. The two players were looking down almost the whole time Vic was speaking. There just seems to be a negative vibe. Is anyone enjoying themselves?

Attendance is horrible. I hope CDC is trying to fix it. Also, the first two weeks of spring semester will be virtual only, so very few students until Feb. 1st.

I know they were studying the stat sheets from the game.
I’ve attended a few games and they definitely seem like they’re enjoying themselves during pregame warmups. I also ended up in the same hotel as the team in Las Vegas and saw quite a bit of them out & about and they were enjoying themselves and each other’s company from my observations. But that’s all I have to go on.
I’d also think attending a presser is part of the “business end” of playing college basketball and if I were in their shoes, I might be a little nervous and burying myself in the stat sheet trying to anticipate any questions thrown my way, but I’m just guessing on that part.

To Zig72, how do you know that defense is the problem Vic seems to be having with Kyndall? Is that just your speculation, or do you have inside knowledge of that? Some on this board have said that is probably the problem, but no one voiced any authoritative knowledge. Someone else said she didn't seem to know where to be on the court. Others have said, including me, that they made a special effort to watch her defense in the few minutes of court time she has seen, and it looked fine to us. As I wrote earlier in this thread, espn evaluators bragged a lot on her defensive skills. If true, not letting someone travel with the team would seem like a pretty strong reaction to not liking their defense. It may be best to stop speculating unless someone really knows what is going on. To me, it sounds like some kind of power struggle between coach and player, but I have no idea if that is true, or what it is about.
