Ugh, getting down on the season, but not the team. Looked at the NCAA records for last year vs where we are this year.

    1. Last year at the 14 game mark, we were 11-3 with losses to A&M, Tech, and WVU
    2. This year, at one point, we were at #3 in turnover margin. Reluctantly looking at the current ranking, I'm shocked to see we only dropped to #5 on the turnover margin. Everyone else must be having problems as well.
    3. And still for losing 3 games, especially double-digits to Tech we're at #5 in scoring margin. But then, it's games like UTRGV keep those numbers high.

Last year, we dragged ourselves into the tournament and shocked everyone by knocking off #3 and then #2 seeds. Ugh. I don't know, just have to hope they turn the corner. Having a freshman point guard who has a huge upside is great. But the other day I was wondering if she'd already hit the "freshman wall" that many players go through. Who said the wall had to be at the end of the season?

Trying to be positive, but this year man all the Big 12 is good. Well, at least Baylor is doing worse than us. That makes me happy.

Guesses anyone? I’m going to guess a lineup of…
    1.Harmon
    2. Joanne Allen Taylor
    3. Matharu
    4. Moore
    5. Gaston

That would be my starting five at this point, but something tells me it probably won't look quite like that.

I still think Vic will start Audrey. I like Jacob's lineup but will swap Audrey for Matharu. Hopefully Matharu will get in sooner than later. This leaves Ebo on the bench. Vic has been complimentary of her, but not to the extent of Jo Ann and Audrey.

So, our favorite coach has moved on to the SEC. Now that she's gone, is there another coach who can replace her as the #1 thorn in our side? Nobody stands out like her, but I think my top one is Mike Cary, with Krista Gerlich coming on strong. This is short term, obviously, as she'll be welcoming us back in a few years.

Gerlich is trending as most disliked after she acted like a complete *** yelling at and berating the people working our game.

I know most will disagree with this, but I may take Audrey over Aaliyah. I just haven't seen anything from Aaliyah other than a freshman playing like a freshman. You know what DKR said about potential and at this point I don't think the time lost due to injury can be used as an excuse. Her HS competition was pretty weak.

Yes, it could hurt rebounding, but Aaliyah has double the tournover rate and double the PF rate. We keep putting the other team on the line way too much and the bonus comes quickly in women's BB. Audrey actually has the highest 3pt % on the team. Aaliyah will do nothing to stretch the defense. Neither is fast down the court, but Audrey can play defense just as well despite her height due to her experience.

Scoring has been the biggest issue lately and that's where Audrey helps most. At least she can strech the defense so others can score and she can hit 3's. She's nearly 50% (of course that means she'll be 1-10 tonight).

I know it's not cut and dried as Aaliyah certainly brings a rebounding advantage, but maybe it's 55/45 advantage. I would say it's close between Lauren and Aaliyah too, Lauren is a better shooter around the basket.

Okay yeah I see what you’re saying. West Virginia goes with a small 3 guard lineup then they have Martinez at the 4 position and former Mississippi state player Yemiyah Morris at the 5. Morris is similar to Ebo so if Gaston is the starting 5 she needs to really run the floor in transition as it would be open almost every time because, West Virginia is horrible in transition defense.

my case for Moore starting is simply because of her size and aggressive nature in the paint. West Virginia runs man defense so me personally I would put Moore on the inside as the 5 player with her matched up against Martinez and bring Gaston out to stretch the floor against Morris. That allows Moore to go to work against Martinez in the paint and both are aggressive but Moore won’t let you bully her so she will be able to draw many fouls. Gaston in the dribble drive would make Morris come out and guard the perimeter which she can’t do. Gaston dribble drive straight to the paint and if help comes you drop it off or lob it to Moore for the easy layup. Better said than done and it’s there but we just have to be patient on offense like Vic said and stop fouling on defense. We swat at everything instead of going straight up. The only players who should really be swatting are Lattimore and Gaston. Everyone else should be playing straight hands up defense. It’s going to be an interesting game to say the least.

There's no ideal answer. We may have a Brooke on this team, but there's no Imani and Ariel to go along with her.

We still have great players. It’s just a matter of them showing up. That team we saw against Stanford and A&M is what this team is capable of. We even played well in the Tennessee game besides the run they gave up. We have the players we Just need them to be confident in themselves.

The conference is almost wide open this season with Iowa State being the current favorite. Unfortunately for us the timing is not ideal because we have so much youth and inexperience. The surprise teams that are doing well have experienced players who have an understanding of the college game and can execute their coaches' game plans. Although I don't understand all the decisions that Vic makes, I still wouldn't want anyone else for the job at this juncture. I do feel in the long run it will be Texas that emerges at the top of the conference in the coming years more often than not. Who knows... Maybe some light bulbs will start coming on by the end of this year.

On a Monday on Metromess, I’ve been thinking while my feet have been warming in the fireplace all morning. I know…..thinking is dangerous. First….I’m not sure about A.Moore. Disclaimer… I know virus and injuries have not allowed her the best path. But I’m just not sure where to play her. She’s got some skills, aggressiveness and heft. She’s also undersized at the five certainly and lots of times at the four…..and not quick enough most times at the three. I’ve not seen any range to indicate she’s a shooting threat from BTA. So in my fair and biased opinion….she’s a four that might play a little five or three in certain circumstances. I was expecting more. So at halfway point of season…..Harmon and Matharu have been as advertised……Moore still hasn’t lived up to expectations but will improve and be a rotation player…..and all the other suspects have various levels of promise but have underperformed so far. Matharu and Harmon are hits and Moore still TBD…..and the other 4 will be contributors next year….or not at all. I’ll be watching intently for progress from all for second half of year. Schaefer always says his teams get better as the year goes on. I hope so. Iowa State and two Baylor games back to back will be telling.

I think we can agree that Aaliyah will not be voted the B12 FOY, as hoped/hyped.

Beyond that, I think you will be pleasantly surprised by the Beast she will become in the front court, if not this year, then soon.

Actually, this development opens the door for Rori to become that honoree.

You acknowledged that Moore has battled injury/illness and then pretty much ignored that. How many game minutes does she have? The two you compared her to have over 30 minutes in every game. Give her some time to get back into game shape. Vic surely is. And I agree that Vic's teams get better as the season progresses. He says it, and we've seen it.

Creaky…good point…my favorite saying is ……in my “fair and biased” opinion. I stole that from listening to the great retired Randy Galloway (sports writer, radio host/commentator and controversial guy covering sports in Dallas-Ft.Worth). So take my opinions for what folks pay for it. I desperately want Moore to succeed and be the top 5 ranked player in country out of high school…..and pre-season B12 POY. And yes….minutes are important. Game minutes more so. Moore had the hip surgery which was a huge setback for her. Then I think she did just ok in her first couple of games. Then got hurt (ankle). So we haven’t seen the best she has to offer. Acknowledging that, my observations stand. There would be nothing greater for me than seeing Moore break out and be a terror on the court this last half of season. Maybe it takes until next year…and that’s ok. In watching off-season conversations about her, I was hoping for someone similar to Ashley Joens. Not seeing that…. yet. And she will be just fine as A. Moore. GO A. MOORE!

Aaliyah Moore does have a ways to go. But, she is one of our more offensive-minded players, IMO. I think she can provide some offensive punch once she understands that she needs to dribble less, and go up strong to the basket and finish.

On the defensive end, her size will allow her to get us some rebounds; she (like everyone else) just needs to box out and put a body on someone and those rebounds will come.

The other night we came alive when Audrey went in for Gaston. That was 4 right? It seems to me that we have lots of 4's, Audrey, Deyona, Aaliya. Where we're thin is at 5, as has been mentioned. It has also been mentioned that Vic's press benefits from having a shutdown center. Is that our biggest need right now?

Vic likes an aircraft carrier at the 5. We definitely do not have anyone with that type of physical presence on the roster this year.

I don't disagree with this statement, but looking at incoming freshman:
    Codio - 6'0"
    Muhammad - 6'4"
Mwenentanda (gonna have to practice that pronunciation) - 6'2"

Is Muhammad the candidate or a transfer or a wait on 2023's Boutilier 6'9"?
