Harrell was in the running for NU's OC before the Huskers chose Whipple.

Shawn Watson (No. Iowa QBs; formerly Texas and Louisville coach) will join the Wofford Terriers' staff as the new Offensive Coordinator.

The Terriers aim to go from this:

    Yorkshire Terrier

    to this:

Watson was also OC at Nebraska under Pelini. He would have been OC when Nebraska faced Texas in the 2010 B12 Championship game.

Small world...he was also Pitt's OC and was replaced by Mark Whipple who just came to Nebraska to be OC.

Some top candidates for the Hawaii head football coaching position being tossed around:

Brian Smith (former Wash St OC) - ?

Timmy Chang (Colo State WRs) - a legend at QB for the Bows and in high school

Ed Lamb (BYU assoc. head coach/ST coord) - could be the top pick

Robert Anae (Syracuse OC) - ?

June Jones (Hawaii HC a long time ago...) - he WAS really good, a long time ago

Brian Norwood (UCLA asst HC, passing game coord) - another front runner

Victor Santa Cruz (Hawaii DC) - nope

Johnny Nansen (Ariz DC) - ?

Whoa! What HC of a FBS team would leave to be an OC of another team? Has that ever occurred before? I get leaving an FCS program as an HC for OC (Incarnate Word HC did that this year to WSU) but can't imagine doing that for an FBS school.

He realizes that Toledo ain't always going to be good, and that Christobal will fail in 3 years, Miami once again won't be able to find a replacement and will promote him.

Besides, have you ever been to Toledo? Even with all its problems, Miami is a marked improvement.

Haven't been to Toledo and can't imagine it's a "fun" place. Candle is approaching $1.2M/yr in salary. Not unheard of but Miami would need to pay commensurate with what OSU just committed for Kevin Wilson to land Candle.

Full Disclosure: Toledo ain’t a great place! I’m actually from there. The old joke in the 70’s was …..Where’s the worst place in America to Live ….answer Cleveland or the “mistake on the lake”……Ask the people of Cleveland…answer “Have you been to Toledo!”….Thank Goodness my old man moved us to DFW when I was young.

That said, Toledo is Gritty and Tough as hell! The coaching tree at the Rockets is an incredibly long one (Saban included) and the talent out of there is ALWAYS rock solid!

Give him credit for having his resume shredded by more ADs than any two other coaches combined.

How did he end up at Rice?

Rice didn't have a lot of suitors, and I'm told Graham is great in an interview. He sold Chris Del Conte on his ability to sell, but he needed certain promises including new turf in Rice Stadium. He already knew the people at Tulsa when he lied to Rice's president & AD about taking the job.

Didn't hurt that Rice thought his ability to bring Applewhite as OC would be a big political and financial boost.

I think Mario Christobal will succeed at Miami. He’s good at Xs and Os, and his recruiting will be scary. Toledo guy’s play may be to get on the big boys’ radar at Miami, and then springboard to an SEC, ACC, or Big 10 head coaching job. And enjoy life more than in Toledo.

He's betting that a good year at Toledo opens up better HC gigs. I strongly suspect he wasn't willing to take a pay cut either. I doubt Miami has the $$ to pay $1.25M to an OC.
