East / West makes a lot more sense, even with OU and UT still there.

    East
    WVU
    UCF
    UC
    ISU
    KU
    KSU
Houston - only odd one here; move to West when OU and UT leave.

    West
    BYU
    TTU
    UT
    BU
    TCU
    OU
    OSU

If Texas and OU aren't scheduled to play each other, that could easily be the tipping point that causes both schools to leave by then, no matter the cost.

If we have to sue Bowelsby, et al, I sincerely hope I can choose the legal team. This will be Bowelsby's last shot at relevance. After the total cluster he has created, I would cherish watching him get ***** slapped around the courtroom. I only wish Barefoot Sanders was still around to preside.

I think they should just "reseed" the divisions each year by the prior year's finish so that it doesn't matter until after we leave anyhow. Then, they could do whatever they want based on geography.

My guess is that they'll favor the East/West plan and throw Cincy/UCF in one division and BYU/UH in the other to balance it out. That East division will be complete **** compared to the West, but who cares after we bolt.

How about, we'll share our TV revenue, but we aren't going to play your ****** schedule. You'll make more money if Texas & Oklahoma play their own arranged schedule. We will play oSu, Tech, Baylor, TCU, and whomever the hell else we want, OR we WILL wipe the courtroom up with your *** because Bowelsby is too damn dumb to hire competent counsel, but then again he wouldn't recognize competent counsel if they bit him on the ***.

It is the projection (speculation) by a reporter for CBS.

    BFD

it seems likely that if the conference pitched that it is an attempt to force the two schools to buy their way out early. In which case it makes sense and dollars for all the remainers

a deft move by the conference and sharp stick in the eye to the leavers

No, but OU needs to do that and have a few car wash fundraisers. I know meth donations won't help much but I believe sooner Nation can come through.

That's because he still couldn't find his *** with both hands, even after competent counsel bit him on it.

I'm simulating this New Big 12 config in my spare time:

    East
    Cincinnati
    West Virginia
    UCF
    Houston
    Oklahoma State
    Baylor

    West
    BYU
    TCU
    Texas Tech
    Kansas
    Kansas State
    Iowa State

At worst, we keep our existing schedule and refuse to play the newbies. Texas and OU are the cash cows and TV kings for the Big XII. Without us, TV can opt out of their payments for cause.

It's hardball, two strikes and the 92 mph slider is coming low and away.

I think they'll try to create the in-division rivalries and do a similar schedule to what we used to have from 1996-2010 with 3 home-and-homes on 2-year cycles.

    Division A
    Cincy
    WVU
    KSU
    KU
    ISU
    UCF

    Division B
    OK State
    Tech
    TCU
    BU
    BYU
    UH

I think if we stay in the conference long enough to make sure they feel the hurt, they'll just throw BYU in A and put both Texas and OU in B. Can even keep the 9-game conference slate this way with 6 games in division and alternate the 3 home-and-homes with the other side. It wouldn't last long enough to worry about hitting 7 from the other division in a timely fashion.

I'd really like to see a buyout for the 23 season. I think both sides will be ready for the change.

The only way I see that happening is if ESPN cuts a deal w the Big 12 and SEC. Could happen if Big 12 cannot negotiate a contract w others after 2025. If Big 12 = Mormon network + Home Shopping network would make sense. With SEC and UCF in the fold, Disney/ESPN may have a few other reasons to make this happen, i.e. the aggie Furk roller coaster and BYU Wack a Bride.

Think all conferences should have 6 or 7 or 8 teams and then play 2-year schedule with a random conference. Then a championship game between the two and winner advances to national playoff.

So for two years what is a Big 12 south (EX: OU, UT, A&M included) would play a Pac 12 South (EX: USC, UCLA, ASU Univ.) for example. This would bring national and regional interest and you would still play your natural rivals.

Rotate to play another conference after 2 years.

And you get a national playoff...

While it's cool to poo-poo what will remain of the B12 after Texas and OU leave, I think it will be a good conference.

In football, Baylor beat Texas, OU, and Ole Miss by double digits. OSU was good this year too and won their Fiesta bowl.

In basketball, the defending NC winner in Baylor is currently #5, and if U Houston joins, then 3 of the top 10 ten teams will be from the B12, and 5 of the top 20.

With Cincy, you have a team that just went to the playoffs.

The B12 would, even without Texas and OU, would be a stronger conference than the laughable Pac12 is. Now whether they can sign a high dollar TV deal is another question, and one that depends on when it's up for signing, what the market is, how valuable various TV markets are, and a bunch of other things that people spend their career figuring out.

But for strength of teams in the big sports of football and men's basketball, the B12 will be a strong conference.

    Duck,

I appreciate your defense of the little sisters of the poor, but Baylor, Third Ward, and Cincinnati are about as appealing to a TV audience as reruns of Wagon Train - a few loyal, but not what commercial buyers are looking for.

Oklahoma State travels better than the other three combined, and by and large has an alumni base that are well off. Their largest alumni chapters a Houston #1 and the Metroplex #2. Still, they are not the TV darlings that Texas and Oklahoma are.

This is not exclusive to the Big XII. Oregon State, Wash State Berzerkley, and even UCLA aren't appealing to the TV masses. Minnesota, Illinois, Indiana, Rutgers, Inner city DC, Mizzou, Kentucky, Miss State, NCSU, UVA, ND Lite, Syr-excuse. GT are all in the unappealing category. without the cash cows, the advertisers will find other programing to spend their money on.

A Big XII network will be just like the soon to be defunct ACC network - not available for lack of sponsors and interest.

I had heard of that show but have never seen an episode. Did some googling and was kind of surprised to see that it ran for 8 seasons on two networks, so it must have been quite popular in its time. (It debuted a year before I did.) On a related note, Gene Roddenberry sold NBC on Star Trek by describing the concept as being like "a Wagon Train to the Stars" ("... they ride a spaceship instead of a nag").

But back to your point ... imagine the old Big 8 without OU and Nebraska.

The New Big 12 will be a fun league. Each of the twelve schools will be going all-out to better their positions. Which means the football should be very good.

As far as shelf life: I'd say 2034 would be the absolute max.
