Muhammad is a 4 so it’s either a transfer or an additional 5 in the next class. I think Abbie will need at least a year of coaching and conditioning before she should be relied on for much playing time. If we don’t get a transfer or more polished 5, I’d say Latasha at the 5 hoping her length and quickness offset some of the muscle she doesn’t have. Amina is the best backup candidate with the same drawbacks as Latasha though I’d say she’s a lot closer to 6’ 3” than 6’ 4”.

I'd say Latasha at the 5 because she will add some muscle with a year of maturity, collegiate S&C, and nutrition. She doesn't have it yet but I bet by next November she will.

Muhammad is a very active hybrid 3/4 (she plays the 3 in high school). I'm thinking we really could use the RIGHT transfer... not just a warm body. Sure would like to see Jessika Carter get things cleared up and transfer in from Mississippi State. She could effectively have two years of eligibility remaining with the COVID year. Just a thought...

Has anyone seen Abby play this year? Videos I saw of her she looks so skinny. Will she need a year or two of conditioning before being SEC/SEC/SEC ready?

Rori checks in at #7 on ESPN list of impact freshmen. If not for that 4-5 down game, foul-laden stretch, I think she’s much higher.

    Guard | 5-foot-6
    2021-22 stats:
    10.9 PPG, 4.5 RPG, 2.3 SPG

Just two games into her college career, Harmon produced a 21-point, zero-turnover performance in an upset of Stanford. That set a bar that Harmon hasn't been able to reach since, but it did illustrate just how high the ceiling is for the Houston native. She came to Texas billed as an explosive scorer but has settled in as a pass-first point guard, running a top-20 team. More scoring is sure to come as her career progresses, but at fourth in the Big 12 in assists and second in steals, Harmon has been plenty productive.

I was thinking about highly rated recruits the last couple of years and if they panned out for Texas.

I'll focus on PG because they're the main focus of most teams. I'll use hoopgurlz as a reference because it's free and easy to access historical rankings

All below are my biased, personal opinions. Listed are their ranking within the PG class.

    2021
Rori Harmon - #3. Living up to the hype
    2020
Ashley Chevalier - #27. Better than advertised, but not ready from day 1. Saw the writing on the wall with Rori's play and transferred out
    2019
    No PG signed
    2018
    No PG signed
    2017
Chasity Patterson - #1. Not enough playing time. But did well when transferred to KY
    2016
Alecia Sutton - #2. My opinion was that she was okay, but sloppy with the ball even by her senior year. And NOT the #2 PG in her class. Because of her, Patterson saw no foreseeable playing time.
    2015
Lashann Higgs - #3. Played up to the hype. Never was the same after her injury her junior year
    2014
Brooke McCarty - #6. Exceeded her ranking. Best floor general I'd seen in a long time
    2013
Brianna Taylor - #23. Really exceeded at Guard and not PG. And with Brooke and Lashann there, no need for her as PG
    2012
Celina Rodrigo - #40. One of KA's favorite players, but she took to the job and did well. Not one of my favorite PGs as she tended to be sloppy with the ball
    2011
Cassie Peoples - #8. Played a total of 6 games for Gail G. Injured. Transferred out, but no stats found for her after she left

So yeah, this tracks with my memory that the last good PGs for Texas was the Brooke/Lashann years.

No significant argument with your memory racerx, but I think you are a little too critical of Sug.

I'll have to agree with racerx. Sug was turnover prone even as a senior. I don't recall any significant leap in Sug's game once Brooke graduated and Sug inherited the position. In many ways, I'll lump Sug and Joyner as disappointments (more so Joyner) because they were recruited in the same high school class and both left with unfulfilled expectations compared to their recruiting rankings.

I’m anxious to hear a report on Audrey’s knee injury. Was glad to see her return to the bench walking a little better than before albeit with an ice pack. Hopefully she misses little to no playing time.

I am a big fan of Audrey Warren. She’s consistently a solid player on both ends of the court. But for the love of basketball I wish we could go a game without holding our breath waiting to see if she’s going to survive her latest collision with the floor. Her parents must watch the game with one eye closed and the other half open. I hope her injury wasn’t serious tonight.

I decided to go back and look at their stats.
Obviously, per game averaged over their entire 4 year career. I'm surprised at the assists numbers for Sug. I'm not suprised by the TO. The most annoying thing was when she would be dribbling up to halfcourt slowly, trying to assess the situation and the other team would just PICK the ball out of her hands. Drove me nuts. Plus passes to teammates who weren't there.

Currently Rori has a habit of dribbling the ball out of her hands. Half the time out of bounds and half the time into the hands of the other team.

Did y'all catch the Louisville @ NC State game? WOW. Louisville dominated first 3 quarters and entered the 4th Q with a 14 point lead and NC State's 3/4 court trap turned Lousiville over and NC State came storming back behind Diamond Johnson's 3's. NC State outscored Louisville 31-8 in the 4th Q.

On another note, NC State's women's basketball arena is small but was sold out. It was loud and the crowd made a difference. If Gregory Gymnasium is such a home court advantage for the volleyball team, I wish our women's basketball team played in Gregory to give them a home court advantage.

I’m thinking no news is good news on Warren. Sometimes if it’s serious like a torn ACL it’ll be announced the next day. In watching the replay, Warren got hammered and then she came down awkwardly. It didn’t appear a bad enough twist or hit or turn to tear something. So I’m hopeful she just needs to sit out against TCU and come back against KState.

That girl is a warrior. I wouldn’t be surprised to see her play against TCU. But we definitely need her to be well for KState.

It will probably be Audrey’s last chance to play in her hometown as a Longhorn. I hope she’s ok regardless

It seems like yesterday that a friend and I went to scout Warren in a home game of her Saginaw Boswell HS vs Aledo. (A digression if you please….my wife was homecoming queen at Aledo HS back in the day. I told her after we were married that I would have married her sooner if she had shared that with me! ). Warren had just committed to Aston ….and my friend was an alumni and supporter of Saginaw Boswell. SB had a very good team…..as did Aledo. Great game and Warren stood out. I provided a scouting report to this site. As I remember it, I concluded that she had skills and potential to be a good rotational player. I think she has exceeded my expectations. I couldn’t envision just how tough she was….or her warrior approach to the game. I sure hope she can play at TCU. It’s been a good career match for Texas and Warren.

Funny story. My WBB friend and I decided we needed to start seriously following a second team to keep us satisfied between Longhorn games. This week we decided on Louisville partly because we love how their coach really pissed off Mulkey once, but also because they put together a good team each year. So we tuned into last night’s game. Our new team was up 14 going into the 4th and then lost by 9.

This is why I can’t have nice things.

#7, 9, and 12 all lost this week with the latter two going down to unranked teams. If #15 Texas can get the win in Fort Worth, we could be knocking at the door or completely back into the top 10. Let’s go Horns!

THIS! All day long this! Previous regimes have had Title IX perceived issues so far up their bootyholes, they wouldn't even entertain the idea. I wish Vic would get in CDC's ear and make him realize 2-3k people in the FEC or even in Moody is never going to be a home court advantage. 2-3k in Gregory is loud and would be. I am fearful Vic thinks he can draw the way they did at MSU or the way ISU does. I just don't see that happening.

Regardless, the women need to be playing at least one game for students only at Gregory the way the men did. It draws interest from the student body in your program.

The excuse for students not attending hoops games at the Erwin Center was because it was "too far" from campus; that shouldn't be an excuse any longer with Moody being on campus. If you like basketball and want to attend games in person, you will make the effort. Gregory is a dump for basketball; sorry. When you build a new arena for basketball, play ALL your games there and let the fans and players enjoy the newness.

During Texas' best years under Aston, pretty sure we were drawing great crowds for Baylor and Tennessee. The attendance problem we have now is due mainly to COVID and the lack of elite teams coming to play us; that will change in 2-3 years with LSU, A&M, South Carolina, Tennessee, etc. being on the home schedule every other year (at a minimum).

For the next few years at least, there's really no reason not to offer our students free admission to the women's hoops games; Texas needs bodies in the seats more than they need the revenue from student ticket sales. Get them interested, and they will return if they like the product; it's not like Coach Elliott had great student attendance for volleyball matches in his early years at Texas; it took time; it took playing and beating elite teams at home.

I agree with your last paragraph. My son is a soph and he is lukewarm about attending games. That translates to "It's too expensive". Offer them free admission and see what happens.

I guess the athletics pass isn’t much of a bargain anymore. Way (way) back when I was at UT, the ‘sticker’ cost $100-125 and got you draw tickets to the home football games and you just had to show your ID for free admission to basketball (MBB and WBB) as well as baseball. Seats may not have been great but I lived at 26th & Guadalupe and we made the effort to get to the FEC.

You can have your opinions and ideas but don't just make stuff up. Blaming our attendance woes on Covid is not factual. There's been a steady bleed off of fans for years now, it's been documented.
