Kansas State presents some exciting challenges for our team. They seem to have alot of size, especially in the backcourt. I think their center is one of the most talented big in our conference. This is a team that helps me appreciate why Coach Vic is a defense first type coach. Managing our fouls will be very important, but so will making our pressure, athleticism and speed a factors.

Judging from the OU game that's on now, Ayoka Lee is going to be a handful. Already scored 20 with 8 minutes left in the 1st half.

Wow! Her back-to-the-basket turnaround and lay-in is effortless.

OU held her to only 32 at the half. Nice job, OU.

Ebo will have her hands VERY full. Our defense needs to be focused on denying Lee the ball in the first place.

I’m sure Texas will go right after Lee in the paint on offense and try to get her in early foul trouble. That would be the best way to neutralize her.

51 and counting.... Just set new B12 record.

Edit: Lee 61, OU 61. 2 minutes left.

OU has tried that. She said not today. She’s so big!!! Gonna need out guards to drain shots.

I’d hesitate comparing our Bigs with OU, so I’d still go with that strategy early on

If I’m Ebo, I’m already worried about getting embarrassed by Lee. Certainly not 62 but a lot. Need to pressure the outside players to keep the entry passes hard. Have to front her….with backside help. Lee is a load. Full court pressure is imperative. It will be interesting how Schaefer plays her. KState has a good supporting cast so it will be a tough game.

I’ve noticed that when Lee scores big on opponents it’s because, they don’t front her but instead play behind her and really just hope for the best which I truly don’t understand. Granted she does a great job of getting position but fronting her and collapsing on her when she has the ball is the key to maintaining her. Ebo staying out of foul trouble is also key. Texas has a big test ahead of them on Wednesday so I hope we come ready.

For sure can’t let it be a half court game and let Lee post up. Muddle up the game, pressure full court, play fast not careless, get KState into a frenzy game, don’t foul as they went 25-27 today. Lee went 15-17. Lee played entire game except when they were up 30 with 3 minutes to go. Stamina for Lee is not an issue, but playing fast and making her move and getting her tired helps.

Schaefer won’t tell us how he’s going to play Lee, but interested in hearing his comments on media interview Monday. For sure making sure Lee doesn’t hang half a hundred on a Schaefer defense will get his and team’s focus.

Agreed and the way Texas plays will speed them up drastically. Causing turnovers will help as well in getting Lee to sprint up and down the court. I’d also be interested in seeing Gaston guard her throughout the game to make her run the floor in transition and if she doesn’t then the transition game should be good for us.

Lee you better play the daggum game!

Now how do we stop her? By committee. Play 2 people on her the whole game, a big and a big guard/forward. Warren and Ebo, Gaston and Shay, Lattimore and Moore. That's 30 fouls we have to give if we need to. Tell them to foul the ball. Make sure she doesn't score. Wear her out. Double team, double team, double team. Make her teammates beat us. She scored 61 but her teammates only scored 30 something.

Oklahoma has offensive power but their weakness is simple: they have almost no defense. Every game for them has been a race to outscore their opponent. And then they ran into Lee - they were never going to outscore her.

Lee will never hang 60 against a Schaefer team defense. It won’t be easy, but we can do this. Personally I think if we can stay out of foul trouble, we win. Ebo, Moore and Gaston HAVE to stay out of foul trouble for sure.

I hope Harmon is fully recovered from whatever sent her to the bench against TCU.

Need intense ball pressure on the K-State perimeter players without giving up penetration and without fouling them. It's not going to be an easy task.

    OU doesn't play defense
No defense. Because the players don't know how, or because the coach doesn't emphasize it? I didn't see the game. Was Lee just not challenged? Did OU not try to prevent her from getting the ball? I"ve not seen Lee play. Is she big and powerful, or more skillful, like Charli? I'm really looking forward to this game.

The key to Vic’s defense is hedge and help defense. We never let Iowa State’s posts catch the ball and try to make a basketball move with one person on them! We have better size than Oklahoma but she is still tough to handle! He will put the pressure on k state’s guards to beat us.

I agree. Watching clips of her, it doesn't appear that she's fast up and down the court. We need to make her feel like she has to hurry. Fast break points. And I like the idea of having Gaston, and perhaps Deyona harassing her all game. I hope Latasha will be available.

If you remember our first game at KSU last season, we got a big taste of Vic's full court pressure defense, especially on the KSU inbounds plays. Our guards harassed their guards all game long, and pretty much from baseline to baseline. If we can do that (without fouling too much) successfully, we'll be in good shape; that type of pressure ticks down the shot clock and does not allow KSU to get into their half-court offense and give them as much time as they would like to pass the ball from player to player trying to get the ball inside to Lee. Rushing them will hopefully lead to turnovers and bad shot selection.

Psychologically, I'd rather our team face a KSU team coming off a win (rather than a loss) and Lee have a big game rather than a poor game; Lee having it so easy today could be just what the doctor ordered if we can make life much more difficult for her on Wednesday night and she gets frustrated. I could be just trying to focus on the positives, but KSU going from playing an OU team which does not believe in playing any defense to playing against a Texas team whose strong suit and priority is playing defense might be the worst scenario for the Wildcats (as far as playing consecutive games against 2 teams with such drastically different defensive philosophies).

Regardless, their performance today should get our players' attention and focus

Lee is taller and bigger than Ebo; she makes Lauren look "small". She is not a stretch-four type player like Charli as she mainly plays with her back to the basket, and definitely does not take (m)any perimeter shots, especially from beyond the arc.

That brings up an interesting question. Who does she guard when they're on defense? Can we try to pull her out of her comfort zone?

I honestly don’t know if it’s a lack of emphasis or a lack of talent but for example the TCU team we held to 47 points put up 77 against OU. They are allowing an average of 78 points per game in conference play. But they are averaging 83 made which is why they are still in play.

I just don’t see KState putting up 94 points against our team. Nor do I see them holding us 25% below our average which is what they did to OU.

I just watched the Kstate and ou game for the first time and I have to say, everything ou could’ve done wrong they absolutely did. They have the worst defense I’ve seen from power 5 team in a long time and I’m not exaggerating. Lee is great at getting position but ou didn’t even try. They just sat behind her, let her catch the ball and hope she missed two feet away from the basket which wont happen 90% of the time. They weren’t physical and their help side defense was non existent. It’s quite clear they rely on pure scoring because, their defense is just embarrassing to watch.

Another note on Lee - Kstate ran man in that game but I’m sure they will run a zone against us simply because, our guards will run laps around their bigs. Lee got burned pretty bad every time she was put in a pick & roll situation so imagine what Harmon and Matharu would do to her. I believe our pressure and dribble drive offense will be too for their guards to handle.

Agree with you on OU's horrible defense. I watched the first half and KSU was in a zone for a time. It was a zone that gave me PTSD back to the Tech zone. They are active (way more than ISU in their zone) and have length, OU struggled to make any entry passes. If they play that zone I'm afraid our dribble drive offense will be as ineffective as it was against Tech. I believe what triggered the switch to man-to-man was Taylor Robertson hitting her first shot. Hopefully, that's a sign that either Matharu or Hunter could shoot them out of it. Would be nice to see Hunter have a 27 point performance against their zone. I won't hold my breath.

This board is really good at finding ways we’ll lose. :smile1: It’s hard to believe we’re a top 10 team with as bad as we theoretically play.
