    ARKANSAS

The hogs hire Dominique Bowman (Marshall CBs) to replace Sam Carter as CBs coach. Per the above post, Sam Carter was poached by Arkansas' friendly rival Ole Miss.

    Speaking of ASU,

A little known fact: the man below used to be in ASU's football secondary, playing for that old softie Coach Frank Kush.

The guy in the batting order ahead of him was a slugger, who Gus walked to get to the guy in the picture because everyone knew black guys weren't good hitters.

He jacked one and since Gus put the tying run on with the intentional walk, we last by one, flushing the natty down the drain.

The ASU coach and Gus were good friends, and he never let Gus live that one down.

Another little known Reggie Jackson fact—his dad was a fighter pilot in WWII. He also was a suit tailor who moonlighted as a moonshiner/bootlegger in the Philly area.

The Phillies gave Reggie a tryout, but didn’t pursue him because of concerns over his hitting ability. At ASU, Kush said he could also play baseball (on top of football) as long as he kept a “B” average in school. When he tried out for ASU baseball, he had 5 pitches thrown to him by an ASU pitcher—full speed. He hit 3 homers out of those 5 pitches.

Vino Bevo Wine - how classy people get drunk

My first major league game was at the old Arlington stadium when my dad took me to catch the Yankees play the Rangers. As a Red Sox fan I hated the Yankees, especially Jackson. I’ll never forget he was in right field and Rusty Staub knocked one way out that direction. Reggie watched it go over his head and assumed it went out so stood there like an *** with his arms folded, not realizing the ball hit the top of the wall and fell onto the field still in play. The center fielder ran that way yelling at him to get the ball, which he eventually did and threw into the infield. Had it been anyone else it would’ve been an inside the park home run but Staub, being one of the slowest players ever to don a uniform, barely made it safe to third.

I don’t remember who won the game, but I do remember laughing my arse off at Jackson. Memories…

Austin Davis (Auburn OC) has just quit “for personal reasons.” He only started at Auburn back in December.

Auburn trying to make Aggies look like they know what they're doing and make Bum Bright proud since 1980. Is there a bigger cluster in D-1?

I’ve always felt that way about a Auburn. Interesting group of folks. Idiotic decisions. There are many parallels to the cult folks in CS IMHO.

Auburn was saved. Davis had 2yrs of coaching Russel Wilson as QB Coach. That's it. Everyone thinks "young coach must be good coach".

My sense is that Auburn has a handful of big $ donors who like to throw their weight around, demand to be heard, and really get involved in the running of the program.* Tough place to coach—for multiple reasons.

*if only we had ever experienced that sort of thing at UT…

Give Harsin his due, at least he hasn't screwed the biggest donor's daughter and then treated her like "dogs".

“Well as long as she’s not a big donor’s daughter…

Of course, if Harsin had gone 11-1 last year and beaten Bama, he could boink the daughter of the University President on the 50 yard line at halftime, and he wouldn’t be in trouble…”

To be fair to the guy (and the girl), It’s all still just rumored at this point. But the coach—donor/fan relationship seems so toxic, it may be time for him to go. Take the buyout $$$$ and laugh at Auburn fans when they barely break even.

As far as I know, this is still just a rumor (until proven).

Also, it could be mere pretext for big donors to dump a coach some apparently never liked to begin with …. If there’s some sort of morality clause in his contract, perhaps they might avoid a buyout. Ultimately, it’s probably headed to litigation or arbitration…

    In any event:

Clesi Crochet was a cheerleader at Boise State, who became Harsin’s assistant. She apparently did some personal assistant tasks and worked with recruiting. Then Harsin brought her along with him to Auburn. Now there are rumors flying about some alleged hanky-panky. Might be true, or might be mere pretext for dumping Harsin. If it’s the latter, that’s a heck of a thing to put a young woman through in order to push your coach out the door.

Harsin is rumored to have been denied salary parameters for hiring new coordinators. He then asked to meet with the Auburn Board of Trustees, but was denied. The Board of Trustees has become the micromanager(s) from hades. They’re not letting him hire who he wants to and won’t even speak with him. More internet Auburn folks appear to be anti-board more than anti-Harsin. That place is a bloody abortion on a train that just went off the rails and wrecked into a dumpster fire.
