18 minutes of play and DeSoto has been whistled for 6 fouls. Grandview? 1.

Desoto not looking that great, and not seeing much from Amina.

DeSoto dominates in the 2nd half and wins by 14. Amina with 10-12 points, not many rebounds but at least 4 assists and 4 steals.

Good game. Some observations. Betts is the real deal. Fundamentally great and unselfish. Now she’s an aircraft carrier. Stanford got a good one. Herron was impressive. Beautiful shot from the elbows. Not much from Smith….but she’s good. Muhammad wad simply the most explosive athlete on the floor. She is FAST, can handle the ball and seems to be a good passer. Her shot needs a lot of work if she wants to play the 3. But she will be a tremendous player for Texas. Harris for DeSoto is also very impressive. DeSoto has 7 DIV 1 scholarship players as seniors. I’m gonna watch tomorrow night’s game with Sidwell. DeSoto was missing a couple of players when Sidwell beat them earlier. Even with that, one of the announcers picked Sidwell. Should be good game.

I think Amina is more of a 4 than a 3 on offense but, with her athleticism and length, I think she could probably guard 2-4. In the intro she identified her position as PF even though she plays most of her minutes at the 3 when Smith and Herron are on the floor. I thought the DeSoto coach did a great job with her halftime adjustments and minutes management. She has a great luxury with the depth on her team and she was rotating them in and out to keep them fresh. Really paid off late in the game when you could tell that Grandview was gassed.

    Amina wears #14.

I've been under the assumption that at Texas, Amina would play PF, Ndjakalenga would be play SF, and Codio would play SG; but, that's mainly if they're all on the court at the same time. Hopefully, each can play more than one position (and I think they will at Texas).

DFW….good comments. The coach really had the players pick up the defensive intensity in the second half. Not settling for the 3-ball but getting it into the free throw area for Herron led to opening things up. Once Herron starting hitting that mid-range, the offense started to click. But more energy and picking up the D was a difference maker. You’re correct…..the coach has the luxury of depth to tire out Grandview. I’m excited to see how Schaefer incorporates Muhammad Into the team. He has a lot to work with due to her quickness and speed. I agree….don’t think she’ll be relegated to the 4. She’ll be all over.

DeSoto got beat today. Led the entire game until Muhammad fouled out with 8 minutes to go. Then Smith fouled out with 6 minutes to go. DeSoto fell apart. Got out coached too. Herron is the best player on DeSoto. She’s REALLY good. Muhammad will be an impact player from the get go. Long and lean, fast and quick, handles the ball, good passer and rebounder. Shot is not there yet. Her free throws need work. But she has the elite athleticism and the rest of her game will come quickly. Her body structure will mature better than most. I think she will be a 4 initially. Sidwell had the two best players. Number 2 this year and number 10 in 2023. DeSoto had better team but fouling out and turnovers and poor decision making got em beat.

Really looking forward to what Ndjakalenga brings to the program on and off the court.

Hope ya’ll will watch this as its long but really shows you what NW is like. She’ll be one if not THE face of the program at Texas. Total package. She either was dealing with possibly low grade stress fracture…..or Osgood-Schlauters condition. Since the videos show those remedial bands around both knees, I am thinking it’s O-S. My daughter dealt with it in high school as it’s knee hurting due to fast growing of the bone/knee plates. Girls typically outgrow it but rest is about the only real help. Assuming the videos are current, she may be about over it. She appears to be moving good. I’m sure now she is a 3 in college. Nice stroke with range, ambidextrous and just overall skilled. I’m thinking Aminu at the 4 and NW at the 3 and needing to see more of Cordio but probably 2/3. NW is the type player coaches die for. Exciting.

Amina in a post (4/5) rotation along with Deyona, Aaliyah, and Latasha...that's a nice diverse mixture of speed, athleticism and skill sets.

I watched it, and I agree. Strong character to go with obvious basketball skills. Was interesting what one of the coaches said. To paraphrase "she's comfortable if she's the star, and she's comfortable if she's not." A real team player. I agree about the O-S. My son had that issue in one of his knees in high school, and outgrew it. I think the future looks bright for the Horns.

DeSoto beat Duncanville last night by 4. Second time by 4 this year. Duncanville was up by 11 in third quarter due to full court pressure and tough man defense. Muhammad and Herron both had 8 and Smith had 10.

Haven't paid too much attention to Duncanville this season. Do they have equal talent to DeSoto? Only familiar with Kiersten Johnson (OU signee).

Duncanville is really good but young. I don’t have their record exactly but something like 25-5. K. Johnson had 2 points last night. They for sure could beat DeSoto in the playoffs. There are several other really good teams in Metroplex but DeSoto and Duncanville are the creme until someone beats em. I haven’t seen Duncanville play…just reading. I am a little surprised that Johnson is not leading the team but early season reports had the youngsters leading. Perhaps someone who has actually seen them can shed some light.

I watched Ndjakalenga's most recent game on YouTube last night. Not a good night for her through the 1st 3 quarters on offense. She was 1-9 and 0-4 FT in the 1st quarter but really took over in the 4th with at least 8 points including a big 3 to seal the game. Even when her shots weren't falling, she impacted the game with steals, rebounds and assists.

I didn't realize SD girls basketball was so vicious. In her first trip to the the FT line when she was 1-7 or 1-8 from the floor, more than a few fans were chanting 'over-rated'.

Muhammad had 18 against Cedar Hill in a blowout for DeSoto last Friday. Cedar Hill is real good….ranked 5th in state. Smith also had a big game.

So, on last night's Gameplan with Vic Schaeffer show on LHN, Alex Loeb interviewed Lauren Ebo. He made comments to her about this being her last/final season at Texas. She replied about all the memories. She definitely didn't say a single thing that indicated she was considering returning for her super-senior season. :(

We are going to be in desperate need of a Center for next season.

Cedar Hill gave Duncanville a good game last night. Essentially even going to fourth quarter ….but then Duncanville ran away. They split their two district games and are tied for second place behind DeSoto. Cedar Hill is good…..and would be talked about more….if not in the same district with these two heavyweights.

So it looks like Jordana Codio season is over. She had surgery yesterday but I’m not sure what the extent of her injury is. Considering it required surgery it must’ve been pretty bad. I hope it’s not the same leg that she previously injured.

Interesting and timely reporting. It's not like we have guards coming out of our ears next season, either SG or PG. And Kobe has not been healthy. Methinks it's a portal need.

Texas has a doughnut hole in its roster, with only one Senior, Aliyah.

With at least three scholarships available in 2022, my wish list for portal transfers in order of importance. (Note: these would all be 1-yr players, which would not affect ships available for 2023)

    1) Rickea. How can you not take Rickea?
    2) Grad-transfer/Sr transfer guard. We need another guard to
    a) spell Rori
    b) play lights out defense to help replace Jo
    c) provide another scoring option as a bonus
    3) True center to provide more bulk and minutes (Ebo #2) to help ease Latasha/Femme into their eventual larger role.
