She took a job in Albuquerque as an account exec with a pharmaceutical company. I think it’s very safe to say it was to spend much more time with her family.

Now I remember. Her Mom was sick. I believe she passed away and was helping family. Perhaps she needs to get back. Hope so.

If I recall my Vic history, shortly after he was named Texas coach, Lovato has done this before. She was with Vic at MSU, then left for 2(?) years to be closer to family and then came back to Vic after the family sabbatical. So this wouldn't be a first time Vic's taken her back into the coaching fold.

Right. She took the HC job at Arkansas-Fort Smith to be closer to her family. Her mother passed a couple of years later and Elena went back to MSU.

If Lovato signs with Vic she should be able to help keep the present players happy and feeling more secure after losing 3 top assistants.
She should also be able to help with recruiting right away.
The only downside I can see is that she never seems to stick at any one place for more than two years (for various reasons). After our last two seasons I would like to
see some assistants hang around a bit but that's the world we live in now and Vic even coaches the coaches up. She is what we need right now.

A more exhaustive HC carousel list than the meager one I was keeping.

There goes the Carly Thibault-Dudonis proposal I put forward. Going to the team Vic knocked out of the tourney this year.

Dom’s job. She took it when Ketara Chapel went with Johnnie to become an assistant. I wonder if she’s going with Dionnah?

I'm not saying that he should just hire anybody. But he needs to have a lot more urgency than he did last year for obvious reasons.

Maybe. With Jazz (Coordinator of Player Development) gone now, that’s open Director and Coordinator spots.

Wonder if Vic could lure Gary Blair to Austin? Let him ease into retirement for a couple of years, less stress, opportunity to teach and work more directly with players, etc.

I was already assuming Elena was returning with all of the speculation and comments both here and on Twitter, I think Abbie's following her all but puts that in writing. Sounds like some contact has been made.

Excited to see what role she fills and who else Vic has in store for us.

Aside from the fact that he still wants to be beloved in college station, Vic has been pretty clear about his goal of empowering and elevating women on his staff. I expect he won’t be breaking that mold any time soon.

Some of y'all need to step away from the liquor cabinet and dry out. Blair is not going to go from being a head coach to an assistant in the span of a few months. Kamie Ethridge is not going to leave a head coaching position at WSU to be an assistant for Vic either. If a splash hire like this were going to be made don't you think he'd just walk down the hall and ask Jody to join the staff for a year or two? That would make more sense than the **** y'all are throwing on the wall to see what sticks.

I certainly respect that and don't have a problem with him hiring all women. But also understand that you're limiting the talent pool when you do that IMO.

It’s funny how no women candidates on a mens coaching vacancy does not limit the talent pool but the other way around does.
I’ve said it before. There are PLENTY of well qualified women for these coaching positions that do not dilute a talent pool whatsoever.

I didn't say it diluted the talent pool. I said it LIMITED the best coaching candidates available. Just think if the athletic department decided that they were just going to hire women for the head job when they hired Vic.

One of the reasons that I think Texas has sorta reclaimed being an all around great athletic department recently, is because they went away from your thinking and looked at ALL of the best coaching candidates available for their women's sports.

Ok, then change dilute to limit and my point still stands. It’s comments such as this (YOUR thinking) that facilitate the disparity for the hiring of women and compensation to this very day.
We’re not talking about the HC position here. We’re talking about assistant coaches where there’s already a male head coach. No?

Example: Just think when they went out and hired the rowing coach. They easily could of just hired the best female rowing coach in the country, but they didn't. Instead, they went out and hired the best women's rowing coach in ALL of the country, that just so happened to be a male. And look what he's done a UT. That thinking shouldn't change just because it's assistant coaches.
