I got on her earlier this year for hotdogging against a clearly overmatched opponent, but damn, the girl can play.

Chavez is so young. I forgot that she’s a 2025 so I would have to take off my shoes to calculate if she’s a sophomore this fall? It’s not unusual for top AAU players to play up a year or perhaps two. Two years is huge at the top levels. She was the point guard on the 17&U so guess she was playing up two years. And mostly dominated and stood out. She had that one game against WI where she played poorly, but even in that game her skills (handle, vision, passing, etc.) stood out. She certainly plays with flair and personality. Certainly a different look than Harmon. Both are dynamic difference makers and fun to watch. Haven’t seen what Hidalgo is like and what she goes might impact where Chavez goes. I wish Chavez played in Metromess as she’s worth the price of admission to watch. Back in the late 90’s there was another dynamic guard from I think Lubbock that was worth the price of admission. Watched her play at the Sandra Meadows tournament. She went to Purdue and was their point guard when they won the National Championship. I would hope Chavez comes to Texas and can do the same in about 2026 or 2027.

I think you are talking about Shereka Wright. Purdue won the National Championship in 1999 with Carolyn Peck as the Head Coach but Shereka went to Purdue from 2001-2004. They played in the National Championship game in 2001 and Shereka was first team all tournament. She was from Copperas Cove HS and was a scoring machine their scoring 3269 points in her career. She was listed as a forward for Purdue but could do it all and was All America 3 of her 4 years there. I believe she was hurt one year. Her Dad was military based at Fort Hood and she had traveled all her life therefore she had no allegiance to any Texas schools plus Purdue was just flat good during those days. Shereka is now the Head Coach at UT Arlington and took over for Krista Gerlich when she left. The reason I remember her so vividly is that we tried to recruit her to play and for our AAU club, the Houston Hotshots, and she was not interested. I believe her Dad made the decision for her to play for a local team but that was when Travel Clubs were not so highly regarded as today.

Aaliyah Chavez really knows how to market herself. But she is really young and I hope she doesn't burn out or hurt herself before she moves to the next level. She seems to compete 24/7 365. Hard for the body to take that without a little rest to recuperate the muscles and mind.

Ellis….old age is getting to me. Thanks for the reminder on Wright. I for sure remember Shereka Wright and her earlier career. . However I was thinking of Stephanie White from Indiana who was the point guard on the 1999 Purdue National Championship team. White was from Indiana and I think her team was one of the out of state teams that was featured in Duncanville that year in 1997. My daughter was playing AAU basketball then and we went to watch White. My daughter’s high school coach introduced her to Conradt and told Jody that she should watch my daughter. Conradt was so considerate and personable that I was even more impressed. I was probably wrong about the Lubbock thing. I just remember how dynamic White was. And followed her career to Purdue. Obviously she wasn’t a flash in the pan. I’ll let this go as too many details will show his my memory is fading.

Phoenix Select (Austin, TX) noticed Vic's presence. Wonder who he was scouting specifically, if anyone.

    Quad Aces, Top Of There Game @become1WBB @JaloniCambridge @FBCMotton @AALIYAH2CHAVEZ @CFEliteSports @JerzyRobinson @CalSwish_Nike | ASGR Basketball

She has been at the top of her class in ASGR’s rankings since 2020 and Altenhofen used a phrase he doesn’t use lightly to describe Chavez’s ability.

“She’s a generational talent,’’ Altenhofen said.

Aside from Chavez’s high basketball I.Q., quickness and outside shooting ability, Altenhofen used another phrase to describe Chavez.

“She’s a ferocious competitor,’’ Altenhofen said.
