Moody Center is really coming along…

Hey, thanks for posting this Zig. This raises a question I have for folks on this site. I live in San Antonio, so I basically can only attend weekend games. The season ticket prices for reserved WBB seats are embarrassingly low - likely 17 or so games for only $175. I wanted to buy them (especially with Moody being the venue now), but I feel like doing so would do a disservice to the team because I already know we wouldn't be able to attend more than 1/2 of the games. And there really is no place to donate your tickets for games you can't attend. So I'd be interested in knowing how posters on this site are handling this. Are you a season ticket holder, and if so, is it because you live in the Austin area? Or if you live out of town, what can you do with your tickets for games you cannot attend? Or do you just say, look I want my reserved seats and I'll go when I can and not worry about the empty seats for games you can't attend?

I know lots of people who would take your tickets if you can’t use them. I bought an extra pair of tickets this season for the purpose of giving to people that are fans but can’t buy season tickets. Hopefully it will help expand our fan base and future ticket sales.

If you decide to buy tickets, private message me and I can find fans to go to the games you don’t attend.

I have friends that relocated to the Northeast but kept their season tickets to have when they're back visiting. They transferred the unused tickets to me. Whenever I didn't have someone, I listed them on StubHub for cheap and they sold everytime. It's also super easy to transfer tickets now. You also have Veteran Tickets Foundation which gives unused tickets to veterans, you just have to do it well in advance.

I live in Fort Worth, bought 2 season tickets and plan to do the same when I can’t make it to Austin (most weekday games).

I wonder if it’s possible to get a “pinned” post during the season to offer unused tickets? I live in Dallas and cannot make it to all the games

Seriously, I bet Dion would pin a post about unused tickets here, as long as the post simply linked interested users to the actual thread which would be created on the Swap Meet board.

On the other hand, Dion might just decide to ban me for suggesting more work for him - you never know with that guy!

If you aren't interested in the money that may come from resell, you can give them back to the ticket office who makes them available to anyone wanting to purchase them. That's how I handle it.

That would help as I don’t see a lot (any?) traffic on the Swap Meet board for WBB Tix. I don’t see myself charging for my available Tix, I’d be more than happy to give them away in exchange for butts in the seats for the WBB program

the best I can say about this court is the hue of orange seems accurate and uniform now. But if there was an award for plainness, this court would win it.

I recall seeing so many court designs submitted; most pretty fancy. Seems like they chose one of the plainest ones for sure:

I like the simplicity of the design, but would rather see those white lines in burnt orange to make them pop and easier to distinguish.

Edit: Where is the center court circle?

Yawn central! They definitely didn't try to go hip for the younger crowd (i.e. the actual players that will be playing on the court), that's for sure. They could have at least gone with the classic fighting bevo logo that seems to be making a comeback. Our men's teams in particular need to learn that Texas fight mentality, so having it on the court would have been pretty cool.

Would the "better options" have been free? Would the Moody's still have paid the extra $150 million?

It was good enough for King George, then I'm happy with it. Of course, getting a $325 million arena for FREE has a lot to do with my acceptance.

Didn't realize how long it takes to assemble this thing. And now they have to take it apart again so The Who can play tomorrow.

Honestly, I find court designs like those at Oregon and TCU difficult to look at. Glad we went for classic and clean.

I guess I’m in the minority. I like the court—classic. I’m just glad it isn’t icy white—those courts hurt my old eyes

Fine by me. Is a snazzily decorated basketball court some goal of all programs that I perhaps failed to notice or understand?

I really like the court design but I’m a fan of “simple elegance” which is what this is to me.

No doubt Oregon's court (and those trying to replicate it) are just awful. I think the problem with ours is just that they made a big production out of floating 4 concepts out there for people to vote on, and then just ignored all of them. If the plan was to let the coaches design it in the first place, then just do that and don't get everyone hyped up expecting something different. I do like that they got the school colors right for a change, and they got rid of the big white state of Texas backdrop and over-sized Big12 logos. The wood color is really nice too. Its a moot point now, but just as a reminder, this article seems to compile the designs they floated out there (which is what created the expectations that they might do something different):
Fans have the chance to design the Texas Longhorns new basketball court, which is your favorite?

While I favor classic simplicity... our new court design is admittedly lackluster and needs a little more pop. Those white outlines around the lane and the three-point line are not impressive AT ALL. It's like putting $20 tires on a Rolls Royce.

THIS!!! If you were going to let a couple boomers do a rec center type court that you could market as "classic" then do that. But a contest to engage fans - and make no mistake you have a huge fan engagement problem at your basketball venue - then ignore the results of that contest, accomplishes nothing. To declare four winners when I can't even make out four major design elements on this "classic" court is stupid.

And to clarify, I'm also in the camp that thinks Oregon's court is too busy and distracting to look at while watching games played on it. With that said there is a helluva lot ground between Oregon's court and the plain jane court we are trotting out.

Yep. Can't disagree that seems like a sad misstep by the department.

At least they are whitewall tires!

I just remembered what Florida's newly renovated court does in terms of light show. If our plain jane court does **** like this in the pregame, I'll be back on board.

As a member of The Florida Foundation and a member of the Florida Alumni Association, I shall acknowledge the school's proximity to Disney, but also admit I am going into that building to watch winning basketball not the prelude to the next Disney fantasy.

That said, it is pretty cool. A thundering herd of Longhorns with Bevo walking out and crapping on the court would be hilarious.

Do you want gimmicks, or do you want championships? We haven't had the latter.
