The tweet does say academic year. So, does that mean sports too? Nevermind, I read the article sounds like all 4 will be in the conference start in 22-23 sports year.
This might work in our favor. Further diluting the $$$ into swaths of 1/13th or 1/14th of the total instead of what they'll end up with at 1/12th of the pot will force the collective hand.
I wonder. If UT can afford to buy their way out but OU can't, do we have to leave as a package deal? Can we leave in 2023 even if OU needs to stay until 2025?
OU can afford it, but I don’t trust their new president. Dr Boren would have told Del Conte, “sit back and watch this”
UT would loan them the money if they had to. UT (or the bank who financed it) could put a lien on all future revenue from the TX-OU game. As long as they play every October that loan would be good as gold.
Put banners over the Million Dollar Walk saying all funds would go to pay for getaway from the new pretenders. With 7 home games at Owen Field, the Okies would have the payoff fee raised before mid-October.
SEC is unlikely to do a one-off odd number of schools schedule. Mizzou wasn't exactly a fit for the SEC but the desire to avoid the problems of odd scheduling overrode that poor fit.
This is spot on. The addition of 4 schools cuts the annual payout to each school. This means it also cuts the buyout by the same amount since it's based on the annual payout.
As part of the loan agreement, signs must be posted around OU's campus and football stadium stating Texas loaned OU money. No, but Kansas City and St. Louis TV markets sure are fit for the SEC's bank account (via TV contract negotiations).
Without a doubt the TV markets acted as "a spoonful of sugar" for the SEC to help that Missouri medicine go down.
For the recruiting aspect, I think that would be worthwhile. But there’s a lot of bad blood going back to that time UH double and triple sold some tickets to the visiting UT fans. Then they tried to put UT fans in a hastily erected flimsy structure.
Chop, Don't forget one of the major reasons for disdain being "no class attendance necessary". Football players leaving after four years with a whopping total of 9-12 hours course credit.
After they left school. Reid was the only one to get a degree. As one of them told me, "I think you have to have more than nine hours credit to graduate". It has always been my belief that is the primary reason it took so long for Coach Lewis to be inducted into the HOF.
The Houston game in 1990 was the biggest win in my tenure on campus. The first time I lost my voice for 4-5 days. Killed them. We rolled. My date was a sports girl and she was all in as well. Nothing negative for me about them joining regardless of academic reputation.
No following, no TV draw, no travel, have to play in that bandbox in the Third Ward every other year.
I can't recall where I heard it but somebody once told me that the only way they could tell Warren McVea had ever been on campus was the $3000 in unpaid parking tickets
There was bad blood long before that. They were legendary cheap shot artist. Me no likey cougar hi for long time.
Everyone in my section lost their voices after that name. The feeling that stadium had that night was electric.
Thank you for the Humorous post of the day I forgot who it was in Dallas that complained about them playing in the Cotton Bowl by saying half their fans ate at the 7-11 stores while the other half were robbing them.
That’s still the loudest I’ve ever heard the stadium. What a night - the only bad thing was my roommate lost his keys when he dropped them while shaking during the goodbye chats. Too much bourbon…
