Anyone who resorts to "whataboutisms" automatically loses the argument.

That is a nice way to deflect when someone tries to discuss context on an issue.

The deflection is in the losing debater using a "whataboutism".

He knows he has no legs to stand on, wrt the pertinent issue, so, in effect, he says: "Wait--those other guys over there did something akin to this too, at some time in the past. Thus we're not so bad. Others have also done something like this before..."

Whataboutisms dodge and deflect. It's a losing argument. It does not address the actions of those whom he defends.

And get this, aside from the minority of Russian soldiers that are murdering and raping innocent civilians, committing war crimes, etc., I don't have ill will towards the common Russian soldiers. They're soldiering for their country. Those poor saps are mere pawns in a sick chess game played by the higher ups.

They conscript these youths into service and send them off to war, you'd think they'd at least feed them and give them enough ammo ...

I've known the Russian Navy sucks, but, before this war, I thought Russia had a pretty decent ground game. Guess I was wrong...

They also point out hypocrisy of the one not wanting to here the context. Works both ways. You can discuss the morality of something in an absolute way, but part of that discussion should be what else similar has happened and what people have thought or done about it. Otherwise, you will go off randomly like the US government does today against whoever they call enemies in the moment.

The Russian people are to be pitied I agree.

The problem with the Russian military is that wrong doers don't face accountability like they would in the US military.

That's one of the problems. Their hugest issue is that no one can either admit to imperfections in preparation, capabilities, or intelligence. Putin has to have "yes" men around him. It works well except when you need to actually be effective. [TDS]Reminds me of someone else who won't let people tell him about how his hair actually looks. [/TDS]

To be fair, I made the same generic statement of his hair and how it highlights his inability to NOT have "yes" men around back before he mocked the disabled guy or mocked John McCain and we thought each of those events would doom him. Turns out no one gives a **** how deplorable a person you are so long as you're pissing on the people that they don't like.

And, I did bracket it in the proper [TDS] way. :)

Bono is less offensive than most artists, but few are more self-important and self-righteous. And this might be better suited for the controversial opinions area, but U2 was mediocre and overrated. They are the Farrah Fawcett of bands.

Early U2 was actually decent IMO...the suckage came when they tried to go commercial.

Their early stuff was awesome. The War album is one of the best I have heard. But they shifted their sound after that on purpose to be more broadly acceptable. There was still a kernel of their old style in it but it became bland.

The Buggles were indeed correct...video killed the radio star.

The question, to get back on topic, is whether we could blast U2 albums at Russia the way music was used against Noriega...

Well, despite their incompetent military and despotic leader, Russia still has some things going for it.

Note how Bubba never discusses policy when it comes to Trump or Biden.

He complains about Trump pissing on people, but cheered when he thought hookers were pissing on Trump.

Bubba not bright. Bubba states dumb things. Bubba a Sooner.

The Empire struck back today, and the Russians finally got their costly Pyric victory in Mariupol.

I hope the Russians lose, and in a humiliating way, but this video of Russia hitting that huge steel plant in Mariupol with cluster bombs/rockets is pretty interesting to watch.

The only place to be there was underground.

The first war crimes trial of the many criminal elements on the Russian side is well underway. A young, low level army man, Vadim Shishimarim, is on trial for the war crime murder of an innocent 62 year old civilian. On the stand, he apologized and said he was under great stress, nervous, and ordered to do it. Another soldier testified that a warrant officer ordered the defendant to kill the civilian.

Dude looks like he doesn’t even shave yet.
