Saban misspoke. What he meant to say is Aggy outbid him on every one of these players.

To be fair, It might be the first time it’s ever happened to him so it’s not surprising he is a butt hurt.

Won’t be surprised if Saban retires in a year or two.

I hope Bama mud holes ATM this year.
I didn’t until this. Those Aggies hate everyone except the 3 NAIA teams they schedule every year.
They never take the high road. Ever.
Great opportunity for Jimbo to take the mature leader stance, yet went the way of a 15 year old.

aggy is poised to have some of their best teams since the early 90's and all of this feels so familiar compared to those days except that unlike back then, they can buy their players legally now. We can compete with the best of them in this new arms race but for myself I just don't care anymore. College football is dead.

    NR,

I disliked your post because I think you give Jimbo too much credit. He acted more like a five year old than fifteen year old.

    WorsterMan SEC here we come!!

NIL = college football free agency.... the sport is doomed IMHO.

UT will manage to stay elite and compete, but what about some of the other smaller college programs? How can they compete with big program NIL $$$ ?

I think Saban and others have the right idea. Some kind of salary cap on NIL Plus a limit on how many different schools one athlete can attend and receive NIL deals

    6721,

I referred earlier to Jackie "unionizing" the Aggies. Aggies' main problem was no control over spending.

Example: You are the star RB at aTm, and your mom gets $500/month after a $15,000 upfront fee. MB is second team and her mom got $25,000 up front and is getting $800/month. You are not happy and demand a restructure or you don't give 100%.

When Jackie came in, he instituted a Barry type payment program - Starting OL get $X, second team gets $Y; etc. Suddenly, A&M is playing much better football and winning games until they can Jackie because they REALLY thought they were getting the death penalty.

FWIW, the above example has no correlation with the problem of the starting QB having sex with his OL's girlfriends. That was a totally different can of worms.

    That’s a fair question.
I disagree with Jimbos description of Saban at the personal level..
How did Saban not get his way? That’s a rhetorical.
“A narrassist , ask anyone who coached with him and you’ll find out thing you don’t want to know”
He is thought of as a czar, he’s not”
That type of rhetoric one would expect from a fired teen previously employed at Steak and Shake.
I would think the leader and the face of an institution would have used much better judgement.
Couple that with his crazy face that brings back memories of Nicholson in the Shining and that’s my issue.
    Unprofessional. Emotional. Childish
    I hope Bama crushes them.

I’m not saying Jimbo is wrong. I don’t know. What I’m saying is his reaction is wrong.

I agree with the stipulations about NIL deals especially if they are paid up front. Once they're paid, the opportunity to transfer is forfeited, and they can't jump to the NFL until they have played 4 years for the school, or they can, but the NIL money has to be repaid first by them, not by some wealthy booster. Won't happen, but just a thought.

I thought he was a "Boer" fom the Union of South Africa and went to Queens College but finished at the U of Pennsylvania, or some such. But, what the hell, I'll be glad to have him fund our NIL deals.

I did not mean jumbos presser. I have not watched it
I meant Saban's. He recognizes a new reality that if let to run loose will destroy college athletics.
NIL will change things but it can be limited IF it is brought under control now
I think that is what Saban was saying.

I always wished we hadn't screwed up getting him
But I think we have the right one here now and for years to come

NILs are straight booster controlled, so I don’t see how a cap could be enforced. It’s open season on booster “cheating”. How can anyone police that? I think college football’s best bet is when breech of contract suits start flying between recruits and boosters.
