Once the road gets West of the Broward County population center, it becomes "alligator alley" headed to Naples. I've never driven it when it was crowded, so vehicles are usually 60-80 mph. Exits aren't like DFW or Harris County, but rather spaced out. Bigger question is why was he trying to cross the road there?
SN, I should have explained that much of that road has nothing on the other side except parts that have an 8-10 ft tall chain linked fence. I actually stopped and asked a road crew if Florida gators could jump or climb over the fences. Basically it is to keep the bears and big cats in the swamp.
Also prayers for the dump truck driver. Now he has to live with knowledge that he killed a man. We all know - and he does too - that it was unintentional, but that still has a good chance to eat at him.
According to someone that saw him he appeared to be just walking into the lane with his hands up. Like he was trying to get people to stop or slow down. A few vehicles swerved around him before the truck hit him.
Yes, and his blood alcohol level was .20 to .24. Should not have been driving. And I guarantee he was in a blackout and had no idea what he was doing walking out on that highway. Alcohol/drugs can be killers. Some of us are lucky to still be here. If you have the opportunity to get the keys away from a drunk friend please do it.
Moon If you have read any of 03's posts he is a reasoned not extreme poster. I am not defending, just pointing out maybe take a bigger pic look
Glad you recognize the driver. I had a similar incident my last semester @ UT & it still haunts me (even though it happened almost 50 yrs ago). Prayers for all involved.
I look back at some of the moronic things I did as a 20ish knucklehead. By the grace of God, and I mean that, I should have been moved to the next spiritual plane. Or incarnated. Terrible situation to all involved.
Incarnated, This is when you eat too much chile con carne? Been there, done that. I feel your pain =)
