^That's a great point - he definitely fielded a well-prepared and well-coached team with lesser star ratings than others.

This observation tends to give me hope that our 22 D will be better — perhaps much better — than the past season. Like everyone else, my concern is lack of depth and perhaps top level talent at LB, and our lack of a disruptive rush end. But given what Patterson accomplished at TCU, if he’s allowed to be deeply engaged, perhaps he can work his magic this season at Texas.

    Duke,

The 2004 & 2005 defenses were pure Dick Tomey, but he got to roam the sideline and tell Brown what to do. I regret that Patterson will not be either on the field nor in the pressbox. Hope we find some way for him to have input during the game, if only at halftime. I'd let him sit in my seats and use my cell, but between my daughter and me, he couldn't hear anything.

He did more with less than most coaches attempting to be competitive. The only issue I had with him was the drugs and questionable behavior that he seemed to tolerate.

Very strangely called game and very one-sided.
Appeared UT would not be allowed to win with multiple timely, costly, and questionable calls against 'horns and almost all on big or momentum sealing plays.
    Looked like Kings-Lakers circa 2002

    What about Switzer?
    Know much about him, Sabre?

I would never put Barry anywhere near that group of shitheads. Switzer is a good guy, nobody took better care of his players, and the guy is loyal to a fault. Nobody I would rather beat than Switzer, but learned a lot from him. He is loyal to a fault.

That's a dangerous thought. No way in hell those cretins in Las Colinas know who may or may not be "rivals". Bowelsby probably thinks Texas is a huge rival of UCF, OU is a rival with Cincy, and Iowa State hates Third Ward.

Please, Chris, just say "NO" to playing the wannabes.

Oh Burnt orange gods, Please release us early from this crap hole conference after this year. The Big 12 as we knew it, is just plain ridiculous now.

So, Riley left because his players sucked? :D

"I’ve walked into four playoffs, and I’ve never had better than maybe the third-best roster [of the four teams],” Riley told Dodd. “Every other year, we were four of four. We had really good rosters, but they weren’t the same. … I can’t imagine that there could be a setting that we could build a better roster than we can here.”

I think that's doubtful based on whether or not the tv contracts would allow for "viewership of zero." They'd probably do the SEC-version of rotation without every team having the same pod. For example:

    Texas:
    OU
    OK State
    Tech
    BU
    UH

But then OU still has 4 remaining "rivals" to schedule:
    OK State
    KU
    KSU
    Tech

And OK State now has 3 remaining "rivals" to schedule:
    KU
    KSU
    ISU

And so forth. It'll end up harming the incoming schools and teams like TCU/ISU the most, but they're probably also the lowest viewership.

    Right on, Moon.

Riley knows he can be the best.....if he can only put himself in the very best position of anyone.
    Genius.
So, Lincoln...You're saying you are a top 90%er. I get it. Congrats dude.

...I really don't like that guy

Translation: All the old cheaters that provided untold amounts of cash (see Smith) are dying off, and the "Million Dollar Walk" has been replaced by NIL. I need a place that has always known how to cheat, but now has ample supplies of NIL cash and products.

I guess he's counting one year where Stoops was still the coach. I don't disagree from a recruiting ranking perspective. We beat them almost every year yet they always beat us and everyone else in the Big XII on the field. However, that team regressed under his leadership. I think it was about to implode and he saw the writing on the wall then bolted as fast as he could.

So can he win big time at USC?
Will he be able to cheat more there?

Seems like they are angling for a neutral field instead of Austin for the first game. They are throwing this out there for leverage because they won’t accept Austin.

    Yes and yes

The alums have more money, are more sophisticated in ways to cheat, but are less fanatical that those he left behind.

His "big rivals"? UCLA is an afterthought and is lucky to draw 40,000 in the Rose Bowl; ND will eventually catchup, but USC will have more speed and better coaching.

They'll play where the SEC tells them to So will we. We'll also play whoever the Big 12 decides until we leave. Why would they do us any favors?

Im not sure Linc could have done any better in terms of an easy path to the Playoff.
They dont play each team every year, there arent many good ones anyway, and they have distinctive recruiting advantages Oregon maybe notwithstanding.
Worst case scenario, a tough season would be playing ND, Utah, and then beating an Oregon or Utah again in a conference championship. Pretty much a walk outside of that...unless you want to throw Washington in there, again, like Oregon, a team they wont play every year.
And, again, who out there will hang in recruiting? Looks like cake to me and perfect timing...
Only other path I think might even compare is Clemson's annual "slog"
