I was stunned when Bohls (Statesman) reported in May that O'Leary would return to Texas for her COVID season as I felt it was best for all parties to move on.

But, then when Coach White used the term "freak accident" during a WCWS press conference to describe how O'Leary was injured prior to the Christmas holidays, and could never get back, I felt that perhaps her struggles in February & March were physical, and not necessarily mental as I had previously thought.

Still, it's a huge gamble to keep her on scholarship another season (and I'm assuming Connie gave her a full 'ship) when there's no guarantee she will return to her peak form from 2021 or 2020. Assuming it was Coach White's decision to part ways, I think it's the smart play in order to spend those scholarship funds on less (health) risk pitcher from the transfer portal.

I assume Mike White is going to revamp this pitching staff via portal if O’Leary is leaving. She did say to a friend of mine “don’t worry though, I am not leaving! I will be coming back next year.” So I assume this was an end of year review decision as was stated above.

Well crap! That was one of the pitchers in the portal I really thought could help us. Come on Mike pull that hidden Gem out of your hat!

We need to scour the MAC, WAC, Paddy-WAC and look for their pitcher-of-the-year and see if anyone has aspirations of playing at a higher level, ala Dolcini.

There's a forum for softball talk called "robocoach". Apparently it's the roosting spot for many OU fans. This is their discussion/fervent-defense about people saying, "Uhhh, are the incoming pitchers going to have any playing time?"

    Their response below:

    2022 It looks like this:

Storako - 5th YR SR, May - SR, Bahl - SO, Deal LH FR, Geurin LH FR - has broken hand this summer doing rehab, McAdoo - SR, Guthrie - RED-FR.

They basically have 4 top level pitchers with 4 more that are backups due to Geurin's injury at this point.
    ------
But what the is most important is the program at OU, the Championship Mindset, the environment of the team. Most people do not get this. Parents send their daughters to OU and they are given back young women in every way. There have been some transfers, and they seem to play where they end up playing. A year in practice at OU is worth a year starting at other schools. The competition is impressive. Players that accept that, do just fine. COVID has affected things a bit, but when 2 classes graduate at the same time in 2024, you better have a bench of talented players ready to play. OU will have that.

    Response from a non-OU participant:

If you got 8 pitchers, you've got 1 Ball & 5 kids cleaning the Bullpen.

Everything you wrote in Bold is the mindset of every Top program. It's not original or new and everybody gets it, trust me. A year of practice @ OU is worth a year of practice...because that's all it is when you don't actually get to start. Practices at top programs is Combat designed to make Live Games much slower. OU is just doing a better job than the other programs, no doubt about it.

In 2024 it is more likely OU has more Transfers than Recruits coming in. The 1yr rentals have paid big dividends so don't look for that to change. And there will never be a shortage as long as their winning NC.

I got no issues with a kid who just wants to wear the Uniform, show up, be a good teammate, and be part of a winning culture. To each her own. How long that is sustainable when OU is recruiting over their own Recruits year after year remains to be seen. So far so good.

If I'm a Coach trying to recruit a kid looking at OU also, I'm telling them their new position @ OU is probably Left Out.

You know Gasso has to be going after her, she’s already signed one of her teammates; would be nice to win this one.

    I hate Oklahoma as well.

I had to take a double and then triple take when I saw this picture. It was weird to see a transfer in full OU softball gear sitting with the NC trophy, as if she just finished earning it for team she wasn't even on when it was earned.

When Latasha Lattimore visited Baylor one year ago, she took a photo in Baylor basketball uniform with their national championship trophies.

When 2023 hoops recruit Brey Cunningham visited Arizona, she took a photo in Arizona uniform with their 2021 runner-up trophy. After our women's hoops team won the Big 12 tournament in March, our coaches took the trophy to Breya's house on their in-home visit and she posted photos with her holding it.

Now, they might not have been holding it like in one of the ones posted by Torres, but not too different. I think it's very common that trophies are part of the photo sessions these days.

Yes, you can see trophies the program earned in a lot of recruit/transfer photos. And it only makes sense. If you're fishing for a player, isn't a big, shiny trophy or two a nice lure to use?

Wouldn't surprise me to see Shea O'Leary end up at Arizona State with Coach Bartlett as she'd be closer to her home in Cali. But, I' guessing a lot of that depends on her health.

Shows what I know. O'Leary to transfer to UT-Tyler to finish her nursing studies.

I am surprised she's in a nursing major! She has one of those "jock" majors listed: "Applied Movement Science". I do know nursing a 5 year degree. So maybe UT-Tyler had a scholarship for that needed 5th year?

Happy for her though. She was a good teammate and represented the Longhorns well.

I am VERY sure UT Tyler is thrilled to get a pitcher with O'Leary's experience.

I was curious and pulled up their stats from last year when they went 49-9 (!!!). Their pitchers.

That's a pretty strong staff. If O'Leary is healthy she will make it stronger.

UT Tyler had a pretty good year. Playing in the Lone Star conference they finished in the final 4 of the Division 2 WCWS. They won the LSC regular season and tournament Championship. They went in the NFCA Division 2 WCWS ranked #1 and finished third in the final poll going 49-9 as racer noted. They did not play any Division 1 teams during the year. Shea is not going to any slouch of a team. Wouldn’t be surprised to see them either come to one of our tournaments or play a during the week game. Good look Shea! She represented Texas well.

I wondered if that error from Karli Petty might have some influence on her leaving the team. i.e. having to live that down the rest of your OSU career.

But then Busby had a worse error?

Made me wonder, "How do you rate a potential catcher transfer? What stats do you look at?" So I started comparing Lee to Iakopo. Lee looks like an upgrade. And then I wondered about the last catcher transfer and if she got better being at Texas. So I threw in Sullivan.

Yeah, would be a nice bat. The 9 assists for Lee confuses me. What does htat mean? I've seen stats in NCAA database be absolutely wrong. Looked at the A&M stat page and yeah, only 9 assists for the whole year. An assist I assume would mean picking off a player stealing second or getting a bunt to first base for the out.
