Wow. Texas women’s team is going to look different. Peyton goes pro, allura and Bella go pro, and Kylie transfers Plus they need to bring in a new assistant

Did not know that about Collins. Thought she'd play at #1 singles for us this coming season.

She’s following our AC who took that LSU job. Can’t blame her for that.

Howard’s done a great job with foreign recruits. He’s made quite a blueprint for them! Easy decision for most, I’d imagine.

Little bit of a surprise but taisiya pachkaleva, who couldn’t pull off the nail biter against lulu joins Texas. They have 8 players who are capable of the top 6. Hopefully no one else leaves

Just to give some perspective, Pepperdine's Taisiya Pachkaleva was ranked the #40 college player at the end of last season (she got hurt playing doubles in the quarterfinals against North Carolina and was unable to play her singles match), while Texas' Kylie Collins was ranked #49.

Other than replacing Peyton Stearns at #1 singles, we might have a more highly-ranked set of players nationally (2-6) this coming season than this past season.

Here are the UTR rankings of our incoming versus outgoing players:

    11.07 - Khirin
    10.90 - Rivkin
    10.76 - Pachkaleva
    10.38 - Zein

    11.50 - Stearns
    10.72 - Collins
    10.55 - Allura
    10.31 - Bella

Would you happen to know where Saby, Char, Malaika, and Viv are UTR rated? I'm trying to get an idea of the possible line up.

i want to say Saby has been around ~10.9 while Char/Viv are ~10.6-10.7 and Malaika is 10.4-10.5.

I don't think Char/Viv/Malaika has been as active in ITF tournaments (Similar to Marlee). Malaika has been playing a bit starting this summer though. I think it's hard to compare the International players (who might be a bit more active playing the ITF circuit) vs the US players on our roster.

I've heard Khirin is the real deal though. Maybe our new #1? Losing Stearns and Collins will be tough as I'd imagine the Top 2 in the line will switch a bit next season to see who steps up. Though it'll be hard to see how Joffee manages 8 players who are worthy of playing in the Top 6. I wonder if all the injuries the team had last Fall resulted in Joffee recruiting for depth this summer.

Has Berque written any more to give insights to next year? I'm surprised they haven't signed anyone this offseason yet. I'm expecting Ciamarra to get a WC into US Open (and same with Stearns). Happy to see Ciamarra getting support.

Thanks for the insight! I'm excited to see the new players and how it will all play out. It seems that Lines 3-6 will be much stronger no matter who that may be.

I keep looking out for another recruit for the guys. Nothing as of yet. Maybe this new potential recruit won't come in til the Spring. I'll paste Berque's next email when that comes through.

I'm headed to the US Open this year hoping to see Stearns and Ciamarra, if he gets to the main draw. :pray-hands:

    Hi UT Tennis Fan,

I hope you are having a great summer! Just wanted to check in with a quick update.

Cleeve Harper won the Pittsburgh $15k USTA futures doubles title today, this time with partner Tyler Zink. That is Cleeve's 2nd pro doubles title. Earlier this week, Ritchie Ciamarra (NCAA doubles champion with Cleeve) appeared in the doubles main draw at the ATP Newport Hall of Fame grass court event. He partnered with Sam Querry. Although they lost 1st round, it was a close match, and a great experience for Ritchie! Last week Chih Chi Huang qualified and won two rounds to reach the quarters of the Waco $15k futures. Pierre-Yves Bailly is back to good health, and will return to action next week in a futures in Belgium. Cleeve and Micah Braswell will be playing a $25k futures next week in Champaign, and Evin McDonald and Eshan Talluri will be playing prize money open events in their necks of the woods. Earlier in June Siem Woldeab had some very good results in California futures events, including reaching the quarterfinals in singles and the finals in doubles in the $15k futures in his home town of San Diego. Eliot Spizzirri had left wrist surgery, and will not be competing this summer. But he is now back to practicing (without backhands), and should be good to go for the season. All of our guys are out there training and competing this summer, and are looking forward to a great 2022'-'2023 season. Hook'em!

    Sincerely,

    Bruce Berque

Hmm no mention of the recruit from his prior email. They really need someone who can play in the 3/4 spot or higher. Eliott getting surgery when supposedly he was ok to start hitting two hand at the end doesn’t sound good either. All the top 10 is getting more depth and key recruits.

Peyton Stearns is on Court 7 at the US Open. They are warming up. Match is being aired via Hulu for me so maybe ESPN3?
