If Louisville can do 7 figures for Reuben, a desperate blue blood can easily do 8 million.

    This gonna kill College Football.
I see my desire to follow the sport I loved waning.
    Gotta be USC and Riley.
A signing bonus? No. No. No.

If we are headed this way, drop college football completely. Woman sports become an albatross financially- so athletics go away.
Just start a minor league system.

So now a HS prospect can make far more than a coach.

It's going to kill boosters after a while. That kind of money usually gets you a practice field named after you.

This much for three years of an elite player?

Unsustainable imo. This kind of money can't be sustained every year.

while that's true. imagine they all pan out for 3 years. Play this out over time. Now if you donate to UT $20m might have gotten you something named for you. Now it's just 2 players for totaling 6 years. that doesn't help the team overall that much.

it's not a good model for donors/businesses who want NIL players.

    X,

Know that there are lawyers out there licking their chops waiting for the NCAA to cap or resend NIL. That will also lead to hundreds hitting the portal at the same time.

Just another well planned and thought-out plan by the NCAA. DKR & Coach Broyles were right over 50 years ago.

regardless of regulations, the market will not bear this level of investment for the meager returns for long.

we've already discussed ad nauseum how 5* blue chips are not sure things. How many millionaire donors will endure spending $10m on a ryan perrilloux multiple times? they'll ask themselves why they aren't getting more permanent university credit for all this money.

we're on the front end of this madness. these donors aren't idiots. everything will play out and deals will settle into less crazy. they'll stop throwing good money after bad without regulation.

Perfect example may be what is happening to the agroid’s recruiting class this year.
Mega Millions were spent on that “historic” last year’s class to secure ridiculous numbers of 5 star “out of state” Defensive linemen!
This year, “something is wrong” with their lack of banking funds to match last year’s millions spent.
Rumor has it, some may have broken their piggy banks. Think about it, the guy a year before you got 7 mil to sign, and now you sign for less?
Like you said, this is unsustainable.

If so, they have bet the bank on one class. All in - go for broke. Sounds like aggy.

Exactly! I know it’s early, but Aggie recruiting for 23 is as bad as I’ve seen.

Bet Aggie does well, and I expect them to, but doesn’t make the playoffs, I don’t expect them to… it will be a meltdown in Colleyville.
To my Aggie friends out there this -is not a dig at Texas A&M ; there are many planets that have to be aligned to win an national championship. I’ve been watching college football my whole life and I’m 60. That football is oval and injuries or a critical mistake by one player can cost a game thus a season

The amazing thing is how full Aggy they are acting after one recruiting class and a couple of surprising wins. They are gloating as if they're Alabama with all the NC's trophies in the case at Kyle Field.

Hey if boosters want to blow their money then let them. I agree with a lot of the posts above.

I think the market rates will soon drop in a few years time. With that level of money some will crumble under the pressure, others will lose motivation. Some will pan out, but boosters will soon adjust and not throw all their eggs in one or two baskets leading to a general reductions in how much players get.

Worryingly players are starting to realise that promises mean nothing and NIL pledges are being broken.

This sucks for the players but this is the reality of a new world fueled by money!

Are some players balking at the obligations ensconced in these deals? Or, are the ones who signed are getting taken by the boosters?

Frankly, if you are a player at State U in the Fall, and you want to transfer to another school, you better hire your lawyer, financial planner, and tax attorney after the 3rd game if you want to have a negotiated deal done by bowl season. In this way, you sign the deal on the plane trip home.

It’s quite possible the players are getting only 20% of the headline numbers due to a number of performance-related provisos and whatnot. The headline number should be the gross amount, not net amount after subtracting expenses for tracking performance and other SGA costs. For example, paying the person who is tracking whether the players are doing horns up and singing during the EOT after games.

Further, the players cannot talk about it due to the confidentiality clause.

I have done 2 deals worth over $108m combined in licensing royalties. They should let me run the NIL contracts.

Between player free agency, an already too long season getting a 12 team playoff to make it longer, regular season games not meaning as much due to that, and the endless, and I mean endless, TV ads, how long till, as with many businesses, the goose laying the golden eggs gets killed?

I tried watching the ND - OSU game today - first game I'd watched since the Bowls of last year. Couldn't do it. Too many ads. Now I don't watch TV, or other sports, only DVDs/Amazon/YouTube, so I have little patience anymore for ads. But surely that's not unusual, and probably more and more the norm.

Besides sports, how many people watch things on TV when they're "live" versus the YouTube or recorded versions later?

How many people are going to be able to sit down and watch what are now 3-1/2 to 4 hour games, with the same 12 minutes of live play mixed in with 228 minutes of other stuff?
