You have a low opinion of doctors. Like, down there with lawyers.

There are things that can be done that would help. Obviously, you can't wait on a criminal conviction, but there sure as hell should have to be a police report of the incident.

I feel dirty for agreeing with you.

Not all are bad, but I think many, if not most, are hacks.

Do you have any loyalty to your undergrad as I do mine? At the end of the day, I paid (well, my parents) for the things received yet here I am still liking UT.

Reported rapes will certainly go up. There needs to be severe consequences for lying to get an abortion like loss of medical license if the doctor knew it was a lie and jail for the mother for murder. Of course, why wasn't it murder in the rape case...

No and for the same reason. My undergrad school was UT-Dallas. Again, I got what I and the taxpayer paid for. I have far more loyalty to my favorite breweries.

Interesting. I got a wife and many friends out of college (both undergrad and graduate school) plus I enjoy watching college sports so I view those as non-paid benefits. I haven't made that number of friends over the years at work nor connected to any local sports team like the Round Rock Express or Austin FC.

For starters, no offense, but college sports is an academic fraud. Never been a fan.

Second, it's great that you met your wife and friends in college, but that's totally random. They didn't do anything to facilitate that. You could have met them in line at the post office. Would you be cheering on your post office?

Yahoo posted an article where Kamala compared the recent Roe v Wade ruling to slavery. I posted this:

"Right. Every woman is forced to have sex."

    Yahoo rejected it.

I’ve always wondered why the left doesn’t fight for women's right to prostitute? It’s their body, their choice, right? I’d take that over killing the most precious and vulnerable.

In some places, they do. However, the reason you don't see a lot of that is that there's division within the feminist movement on the issue. Some think it's great because of "female empowerment" - making money off their bodies. However, many don't like it because it epitomizes men objectifying women and reducing them to being tools of sexual pleasure.

First, college players seem to like being there more than pro players as they have something to prove vs it's a job though NIL is changing that.

Second, I certainly would like the post office more if I met love there. It's clear colleges do more to promote socializing than post offices do.

If we're talking about the big, impact players, they're largely borderline illiterate dudes who get to go to college, have partying and fame thrown on them, and get to bang a bunch of college chicks. Of course they like being there. Who wouldn't? It beats the night shift at Wendy's.

Could they get into college without the football ability? For most of the ones who make a real difference on the team, the answer is not only no but a hell-friggin'-wipe-our-***-with-your-application no. It's not even close. Now in a free market, I wouldn't care. Let them be minor league football players (get paid, etc.), but let's not pretend that they're real college students. They aren't - certainly not the big stars.

Not really. The situation of going to classes simply facilitates it more, but it's still largely a random happening. If you like it, that's fine, but I would never give a penny of my money to Baylor University. I'm generally a live-and-let-live-guy who will be friends with almost anybody, but any institution that teaches kids to hate this country and its foundations (and both Baylor and UT do that) can f**k off. It's my enemy, not my friend and won't get my money or my support.

There are of course players who fit your description, "If we're talking about the big, impact players, they're largely borderline illiterate dudes who get to go to college, have partying and fame thrown on them, and get to bang a bunch of college chicks."

But it is not the norm, not even close.
    I don't think you've paid attention
Most "impact players" are pretty smart, most get their degrees and live productive lives. The biggest impact players are the QBs followed by WR Backs.

Really? Those guys who get drafted into the NFL have the SAT scores and grades to get into college without playing football? Sorry, not buying it.

Depends on the position. Offensive lineman and QBs usually have higher than normal IQs. Other positions tend to have lower than normal IQs,

What player positions do you consider impact players?

My son was a straight A student in High school and was a scholarship player at UT. While several other players would not have been able to attend without an athletic scholarship, it was a way out of their individual situation. UT athletes make a lot of money for the university, but they also make a chance for themselves. I'm not going to begrudge a kid for taking the opportunity or begrudge the university for providing sports entertainment for their fan base. It's a win-win.

A lot of those kids who would be working at McDonald's otherwise work their butts off to earn a degree and pull themselves and their families out of the poverty cycle. More power to them. They can use their God given abilities and self-discipline to make a difference in theirs and their family's lives.

I wouldn't necessarily be opposed to a minor league for football, but really if a kid can play football in college and get a college degree, more power to him. The number of kids who go pro in any college sport is incredibly small. Let's do everything we can to give them a chance to change their lives.

So we should pretend these guys are all qualified students to make money? Keep in mind that these are all non-profit institutions (and many are government institutions). Making money isn't supposed to be the top priority.

It's more about how good the player is than the position.

I don't blame the kids at all. If you can barely read and write and a big university wants to give you some big opportunity, go for it. The issue is whether or not it's good policy for educational institutions to get caught up in this business and erode their own standards for it.

It's a little like the "free" COVID money. Did I accept the cash? Yes. I didn't send it back. Was it good policy for the government to give all that money away? No. (Of course, with the 9 percent inflation, we're now paying the price for all that "free" money.)

College is a scam. It's a necessary scam for many in order to become marketable in certain fields.

    It is a scam.
