I don't know. When you're, like, 6'7"and 370lbs you can pretty much set up in front of a D lineman and say " Move me mofo."
go ahead and give me 100 lashes with a wet noodle for this comment.....Am I the only one seeing a bunch of flab in these "big humans"? Since we haven't really ever gotten these guys, is it expected the UT staff turn that to more muscle mass?
I've been thinking the same thing lately, really hoping the strength coaches can deliver on the cartoon images of some of these guys. I'll never forget the story of the sign that Tom Landry had hung in the Cowboy locker room 'You Can't Flex Fat'. True, there aren't any 240 lb OL these days. But I worry about the big bellies and tittays, especially when the 4th quarter rolls around.
Stoney Clark with THE STOP against BlowU at the goal line. It was awesome. Best play that 340lbs of Chocolate Pudding ever made
I don't care what the program may have said, Stonie was easily well North of 350 lbs at the time he made that great play.
Football strength training and prepping to look like Mr. Universe aren't the same thing. Plenty of "fat boys" could have pushed Schwarzenegger in his prime into the nickel seats. That said, these sudden giant 16-17 year old that want to play in the NFL will trim.up and change builds as they become 19-21 year old men. But the guys who can really play in the OL probably won't be in the ones who.look the best without a shirt.
Precisely. Muscular "definition" is of no consequence to football strength and ability in the trenches. You've got to be strong, but it's not a bodybuilding competition at muscle beach.
That " flab" is a take for most division one football programs in the nation. Take a peek at last season's national championship game and all that flab on the bama and Ga lines. And then remember we had 1st and goal at the TCU 2 yrd line last season and couldn't run the ball in with Bijan.
To be expected from a group of high schoolers. The key will be what they look like after a summer of proper S&C training.
After last year, I don't really care about "pancakes" (although they are nice), I'll settle for some fat boys just getting in the way of DL & LBs.
None of these guys know how to work out, high school programs are lacking alot even in the big schools, they may have great gyms but that doesn't mean they are working out like they need to AND getting the nutrition they need. They also don't need to be lean anyway, they need fuel during the games to move that mass and the mass across the line, that burns a tremendous amount of calories during a game and being lean wont cut it.
We have watched this play out for a number of years with the dirt burglar ol. Being large on the line has great benefits or at least vs Texas it appears to.
I thought the Snickers candy bars he stuffed in his pants was his "power bulge". Still can't believe that Snickers didn't make a commercial out of the Snickers falling out of his pants in the middle of the field.
Huge bummer, but not at all unexpected. He’s the kind of player — defensive player — we have been missing on for years. Wouldn’t be surprised if there is some big NIL money that influenced the decision.
