Ultimately, I think this is the truth. I like bark and rub more than others. so Black's, Pecan Lodge, and my dad's are my top 3 briskets.

Some of the other bigs are great, but not my preferences.

I generally go every year to Franklins for an event (where there are no lines!), and the BBQ has always been really good. At home, I use my Big Green Egg, which I'm very happy with (except for the wooden handle on the lid, which recently fell off). Anybody also have a gas grill that they like? Been thinking about getting one...

    Pluck,

My favorite is the one some friend owns and cooks me dinner on.

I have a Kamodo Joe egg and love it. But I also keep a cheap home depot gas grill when I want to do burgers or other quick things. I don't smoke anything on the gas grill.

In the DFW area, Cattleack and 407 BBQ are my personal favorites.

    Go on...

Seriously, if any of yous need a good but relatively inexpensive pit and can get to and from Tulsa easily, check out Craig bell at Bell Fab. That is where I got my beast. He's on facebook and has a website also.

Mine was $950. A comparable Yoder Loaded Wichita or Lang or any other big name pit that is basically like mine would run you $3500+. Craig is probably having to charge a little more now, but all the others are as well.

    My beast...

If I have to explain to you that everyone and anything from Oklahoma sucks, I do not know what to say.

Ordinarily, I would go along with your sophomoric humor here, but Craig is allsome! Your assertion here is idoitic and uphauling, at best.

The current ones, after they sold out and Char-Broil started producing them in China absolutely DO suck.

The old ones did what most backyard smoker fans needed, which gave a good sized firebox that didn't leak and that had decent surface area upon which to do the offset cooking.

You couldn't pay me enough to buy one of the cheap POS's bearing the name now, but I ALSO am not going to spend a grand or more on a replacement for what I have now...

I had and used and made great barbecue for 15 years on a cheap Char Broil purchased at a Home Depot. I needed a bigger pit.

It's like golf. It ain't the clubs, necessarily, it's the technique.

I'm sure that is some exquisite piece of smoking machinery, but when I went to the website and they called them a BBQ grill I almost threw up in my mouth a little. I suppose for the price I could put up with such nonsense. :smile1:

I suggest we eliminate any Barb B Que establishment that sells pulled pork as Barb Que.

I bought my grill from Strickland Propane. They have a very knowledgeable employee named Hank Hill that can answer any questions regarding propane and propane accessories.

That's nice. See this guy on there?

My grandad owned a sheet metal shop and made a monster like this one 45 years ago. Except he added a grill section between the firebox and the cook chamber. it took up the length of his entire back porch. lol

small aside on this... my grandad made about 75% of the coupon boxes for the state fair back then also. if you still see one at tx/ou, chances are they are one of his.

Going back to Spring Creek barbecue having full parking lots. Well, there are also "Texans" who like Texas A&M and Oklahoma. Does that mean they are good, too?

If it's from Texas Monthly, then it's more pay to play than you're required to do at the old Chicken Ranch. They're known for only whoring restaurants that buy add space with them, with maybe a few actual good ones thrown in there for cover.
