We can assume confidently Tara won't schedule Vic's Texas in the future. But Vic's living rent free in Tara's head. Hope Texas matches up with Stanford in the tournament and wins.
Speaking of Tara VanDerveer and how our style of play was too physical. Looks like we’ll be cranking it up a notch this season.
One of the things I liked most about the schedule was Vic paying respect to JSU and scheduling a game at theirs.
FYI for season ticket holders--I never got an email, but I was able to log in to my account and purchase tickets today.
In addition to Jackson State, we will be playing two other teams from the SWAC; Alabama State and Southern. The interviews of each of the three coaches can be found in this link. Alabama State HC Freda Freeman: 12:30 Jackson State HC Tomekia Reed: 1:02 Southern HC Carlos Funchess: 2:05:40 Everyone knows what a tough opponent Jackson State was last year. That will likely be the case this season as Coach Tomekia Reed mentioned in her interview that this year's team is the most talented she's ever coached. She has two post players at 6'5 and 6'7.
I watched the highlights from last season’s game against JSU and noticed all 4 Texas players lauded for their play in that game transferred out. Weird.
Schedule has some tweaks made (or I had not noticed before). Game at UConn will be at 5:30 PM Central time, and televised by FS1. No time set for our game against Houston Christian on 12/21, or that it will be televised by LHN. 2022-23 Women's Basketball Schedule - University of Texas Athletics (texassports.com)
Vic and Rori at the mic today. Nice. But the Athletic Dept. needs to give them a table and some chairs though:
When's the last time in a preseason projection you saw Texas and Tennessee as 1 seed, UCONN as a 2, OU as a 4, or Kansas and Florida in the field at all... on the flip side NC State as low as a 4 and Baylor a 5. There has been so much player/coach turnover this off-season and expect more parity in WCBB than there has ever been. Can't wait for opening day!
I recall one year ago Creme had us somewhere between a 7-9 seed; most of us on here knew we'd be so much better. And, we earned a #2 seed last March. It's all fun.
I remember this story about Ashley Bonneville, Leander high school basketball, baseball and volleyball player, saying she would try to walk on at Texas. She was 25-5A 2nd team all-district as a senior, Gisella was MVP (sophomore).
I'm getting so excited. This team is so deep and talented. Five Longhorns earn Big 12 preseason honors - University of Texas Athletics Big 12 Women’s Basketball Preseason Awards Announced

Some takeaways from the preseason conference team: - zero post players (only on honorable mention) - Texas having 2 first-teamers, and 3 HM members tells you that others believe the starting lineup at Texas will consist of Harmon, Gonzales, Morris, Moore, and Jones - lots of 5th year seniors listed
No players from West Virginia; first time in a long time. KK Deans now at Florida with Aliyah Matharu.
I try my best to keep my expectations for Texas WBB low, thus avoiding disappointment. And I do wish Charlie Creme had not predicted Texas as a one seed. But I can't entirely contain my excitement about this season. I just can't wait to see what kind of team this group of talented, hard-working players becomes.
Creme had us #4 in his way too early Top 25 back in April. So, he's been on the Texas bandwagon even before we reeled in the transfers. I'm guessing back-to-back Elite 8 appearances makes the media believe in you! Obviously, being one of the #1 national seeds is supposed to give you the easiest path (on paper) to the Final Four. If we end up a #2 seed, the key is not to be opposite #1 South Carolina in the Greenville, SC regional. If we can just manage to get to the Final Four in Dallas, a huge homecourt advantage awaits us! So, yes, so many reasons to be excited as we look forward to the start of the season and what could be in store for our program come March/April!
*Aaliyah Moore is a post player. *Agreed... that's also the starting lineup that I've been expecting. *Yes, 5th year seniors are wisely taking advantage of that extra year of education. Can't wait for the season to kick off!
