I think this is Jenica Raine Lewis, 2026 PG from Iowa:

I think Aaliyah Chavez may be a little overconfident of her game right now as a sophomore in HS. Got to admire her moxie though. Wonder if she is being serious about her thoughts on Steve Nash? Pretty bold.

Aaliyah Chavez and her Lubbock Monterey team will be at the Thanksgiving Hoopfest in Duncanville this year. Is she the next Lebron??

Per her IG stories, Chavez is visiting TxWBB for the game today. She seems to love the game day atmosphere.

Check out Aaliyah Chavez's current Instagram story; she was at the Texas/Tech football game in Lubbock yesterday. I want to believe she's doing the Hook'em sign even though she's a guest of the Lady Raiders.

With 2023 Gisella Maul graduating high school a semester early, and enrolling in January (although likely redshirting), it got me wondering if we will soon see high school juniors re-classify and graduate one full year in advance, and enroll in college early. We saw Logan Eggleston do it in volleyball (of course, she's mature beyond her years).

From a talent perspective, I could see Aaliyah Chavez being the type of player who might decide she's not necessarily being challenged in high school basketball games, and would be better served to enroll in college one season early and practice/play at a much higher level sooner rather than later. She's been play up in club ball so she's used to playing with/against players 1-2 years older than she is.

Obviously, it would take a lot of discipline and hard work to pass enough classes to graduate early; and, I'm sure proper time management would be in order when you play so much club ball (especially in the summer) to take summer classes to get ahead.

We do see it in the men's game as far as players re-classifying and graduating early. So, it's only a matter of time before girls' hoopsters begin that trend in higher numbers.

Moooo…interesting question. Entirely possible. If a girl is academically and emotionally mature enough…..then go for it. I’m guessing the men do it primarily to get one year earlier into their first pro contract so they can get that second big contract and then still be young enough to get that third big contract before NBA teams think they are too old. Every year counts. I’m not sure the same thought processes occur in women’s game. Perhaps it does. The money is so big in men’s basketball it’s hard to tell a kid no if he’s that talented. WBNA money is getting better so perhaps. Eggleston is apparently leaving after this year and leaving one last year on the table. Not sure all the reasons but perhaps she wants to get her pro volleyball career started earlier as well. Good things to discuss.

Correction noted. I sure thought Eggleston was leaving early. Wish she had another couple of years. She’ll be hard to replace. Elliot seems to always come up with another star.

I think Madi will be an excellent leader, with the ability to take over and lead as does Logan. I like our future.

Saw where #1 Lubbock Monterrey lost to #8 Lubbock Cooper and it said Aaliyah Chavez did not play due to a knee injury but no other details. Hopefully only a minor setback for her.

Moo I also agree with your point. The Club season is wayy too competitive and Aaliyah Chavez has nothing left to prove there. I would love to see her reclassify and become a Texas Longhorn. But whether she does or not she is an amazing talent. No matter where she goes to school I think she will become one of the great ones to play WBB.

Since we don't even have a 2026 Recruiting thread started yet, I'll just stick this 2027 verbal commitment from the state of Texas here:

Hopefully, this PG commitment to UConn will keep them away from Aaliyah Chavez

Fisher is ranked #22 on ESPNW recruiting site. And it’s early so perhaps it does mean UCONN is moving on from Chavez.
