Going on the prediction that we will beat a down trodden Baylor after their give away loss to TCU, from the team’s and fans point of view, what are your bowl preferences for the ‘Horns?
I’m less concerned with the particular bowl than with the opponent. I would love to see a Texas-Notre Dame match-up.
Eyeballs on your team is a good thing.Texas vs Notre Dame may draw as many viewers as more prestigious bowls that lack a national following.
Sugar Bowl against LSU is a remote possibility, but the powers that be in NOLA really want that. Alamo Bowl is possible but not good for San Antonio because the vast majority of the fans will drive in and drive out. They loved Iowa State and would be very happy with oSu. Texas Bowl is convenient but really more like a HS playoff game. Anything else will probably cost more than the payout.
I think if we beat Baylor the Alamobowl will grab Texas. Filling up the dome is important. Plenty of Texas fans will come and stay for a couple of days.
I go to the Alamo Bowl every year and hope Utah comes again. Great fans and good well coached team. Of our conference I hope it is OSU or Baylor if not us. OSU fans are a good bunch and travel well
I am thinking KSU beats TCU in the CCG, which will create a trickle down effect, pushing everyone down one bowl level. Though we know a big name can still get chosen higher. Most likely landing spots for Texas are Alamo or Cheez-it.
UT is always a good draw for the Alamo Bowl, but it doesn't do as much for local economy as other teams. Lots of UT people come for the game then drive back home...unless they are too drunk. The resturaunts & bars do good business on game day, but hotels don't do nearly as well. Whoever winds up coming, their fans always go home well entertained. SA is a VERY hospitable city. We know how to party. FIESTA mofo!

If Texas loses in the big12 title game ...that would mean TCU will likely get a playoff spot thus Texas would get the Sugar Bowl spot ...ala 2019 Sugar Bowl
If TCU misses the playoff because of a CCG loss, they'll probably go to Orange as an at-large or Cotton as a massive favorite. KSU: Sugar TCU: Orange or Cotton Texas: Alamo probably, although it could be against a really good Pac-12 CCG loser (Oregon or USC).
I second the Alamo Bowl. The Alamo Bowls folks always do a great job promoting and presenting the bowl. Christmastime on the Riverwalk is hard to beat. And I don't think Texas participating is a "loss" for the local economy. Yes, some fans will drive in, but a fair number of Texas fans stay on the Riverwalk and enjoy the holidays. I've been to all of Texas' appearances and several other, and downtown is always packed.
Yep....someone else to beat up on. The Pac is wack.... Look at uscs schedule. That linc is an opportunistic dude. And when he was making his pitch to Caleb all he did was introduce him to a few song girls and then show him the 2022 schedule. I see no Pac team as top 8 material. Put the champion of that conference at around the 9 spot sounds about right.
I saw potential Alamo Bowl against Washington on one of the projections. I got to go to the 2001 Holiday Bowl against Washington that saw Texas score 27 points in the fourth quarter and win 47-43 and it still ranks in my top five games all time that I have attended. Wouldnt mind seeing that matchup again.
Going to a bowl is today’s participation trophy. Out of the Big 12 only Iowa State/WVA aren’t bowl eligible. Not keen on going to the Alamo bowl. Didn’t we do that with Herman 2 times in last 3 years?
That Utah game was pretty darn good, and our last big sports effort before Covid hit. Utah was a massive favorite and Herman knew how to get the most out of the undermanned squad.
Washington would be a tough matchup for us. Their passing offense is #1 in college football. Their QB (Michael Pennix) shreds zone defenses. Then again, we might hang 50 points on them. Also, our pass rush may be a lot more than they’re used to seeing. They’re no joke though. The Huskies will put up lots of points on the scoreboard. ……….
