My selfish side wants him to stay and run behind a line that has the potential to be better next year. My sensible side wants him to stay healthy and go grab that paycheck. He's NFL-ready, Vince was not.
I don't give a crap about the NFL and how players do once they get there. So, if he stays at Texas, that would be great. If he doesn't....well, bye....
I guess the appeal would be the dream of being legendary. He was legendary in High School; if he’s done with college, he’s not yet.
Might have been different in today's NFL. Fisher/Chow were the absolute worst combo for Vince to get drafted into.
And dont forfet the McMair passing. Steve "Air" was a friend and mentor to him and Vimce would have been his understudy, but unforrtunately Steve passed right before VYs arrival No small matter
Bud Adams drafted VY, not the GM or the coaching staff. Vince's agent should have sat down with Mr Adams and made an arrangement because while Fisher would go along, Norm Chow was carrying chicken **** to a whole new level.
While Bijan should pass the possibility of injury and take the money, he should also utilize the option of sitting out a year, finishing his degree and getting picked up by some team not located in Harris County, Buffalo, Detroit, Green Bay, DC, or owned by the Haslams. You know, when you start thinking about it, the NFL is really a cesspool of ****** owners. I'd be happy if he wound up in Nashville.
Agreed. F-head Fisher poisoned his well. Vince admittedly had some maturity issues, but that doesn't excuse what Fisher did to him. Re: Bijan...I want him to do whatever is in his best interest. That's probably the NFL, but I'm certainly on no position to advise him.
I agree with X Misn Tx... This will get your blood a little warm (from today's Dallas Morning News): "Even Robinson acknowledged getting questions about his usage from friends and fans. “A lot of people ask me that,” Robinson said. “I think that I did everything I could here. I’m just having fun. Whatever people think, I just can’t even listen. I think that they used me well, Coach [Tom] Herman and Coach Sark. So it is what it is. I’m just excited to be a part of it.” The questions started his freshman year with Herman stubbornly committed to a three-running back rotation. Despite averaging a school record 8.2 yards per carry, Robinson only averaged 9.6 carries in his nine games. It wasn’t like Robinson was under-the-radar. He was the nation’s No. 1 running back coming out of high school in Arizona. Things like a viral spin move and stiff-arm against West Virginia hinted at things to come."
VOL The Star is Jerry's ultra nice training facility in Frisco.2 outdoor and one indoor fields. Great complex with hotels and restaurants built around it
This does not seem a very fair assessment. For one thing, those ypc almost all came from his last couple of games. For another, "stubbornly committed" is a bit of biased / weasel wording. Keontay and Roschon were both somewhat proven commodities and Bijan didn't immediately separate himself from them. Also Sam was a potent runner himself and there were only so many carries for the 4 of them until somebody either pulled ahead or took themselves out. That happened when Keontay fumbled on the final play to lose us the TCU game, and then got the first carry of the OU game and fumbled again. After that, he was pretty much out of the rotation and Roschon/Bijan split the carries for a few games, and Roschon (about whom I hope nobody is thinking "it's a mistake to give this guy his fair share of touches too") performed just as well - until the KSU and Colorado games when Bijan went off completely and averaged like 15 yards a touch. He kept scoring long TDs that were actually limiting his own touches, in a good way, simply because the drive would be over prematurely. And then there's Bijan's own thoughts posted right above this, saying whatever people think about his usage, he just can’t even listen, because he thinks that Coach Herman and Coach Sark both used him well. Maybe he's just being polite, but after 2 years, if he felt that Herman limited him unfairly it's not like there'd be much backlash if any for saying so.
I hope he stays, but don’t blame him if he goes for a lifetime check. I won’t be surprised if he stays. He already has life altering money at his age, he seems more focused on family/friends and is just a genuinely good young man. I will be happy for him either way
If Bijan had the offensive line of Earl, Ricky, Vince or Cedric, he likely would own all Texas rushing records. And he represents the university so well.
While the selfish part of me would love to have him back, I think the best decision long term is to enter the draft. His NIL money as good as it might be cant make up for a rookie contract first/second round draft slot money and the endorsement opportunities at the next level, then add the injury risk which frankly is just too great and when weighted against the single year of NIL money the risk/reward is totally out of whack. Then factor in that he is a running back and how short the shelf life of players at that position is and its hard to justify an argument for him coming back that isn't emotional rather than rational. Football is a get your money now sport because nothing is guaranteed and you are one injury away from being done and not paid anything more going forward. We all love the Ricky story but that was a different era and Ricky got really fortunate, he is the unicorn not the norm.
If Bijan is first round he gone. If not then maybe hes back, but we have some talent to take over and Im excited about Baxter and Blue in addition to the kid that I can't remember right now....
I don't think the round matters as much any longer for RBs. Unless another Barry Sanders era rolls around, and the entire league reverts back to the run game, Bijan will never get Zeke Elliott money. Chiefs, Eagles, and 49ers come to mind: none of them have more than $6MM devoted to running backs. GMs won't go the Jerry route and overpay for RBs ever again. Bijan could get selected 1st overall in April and whoever takes him will still say "yeah you're worth maybe 3% of our cap." NFL 2022 Valuation He'd basically need to go the Chubb or Derrick Henry route. Prove you're a ticket-selling highlight reel, then play in a high enough percent of snaps to show the value. Which is why I think he's definitely gone.
