Children of the Corn may have gotten a good one.........Nebraska signs Matt Rhule to 8-year deal as football coach
Rhule can coach, no doubt, but first he has to recruit talent to Lincoln. If he can sell it I think they will compete again, maybe soon.
That's the key. He (and the staff) have to find an approach that will make Nebraska appealing to young players - not an easy task.
The guy can build the infrastructure and can coach. If Scott Frost can't sell Lincoln to HS kids, Rhule is going to need multiple Brinks trucks.
With what the Panthers are going to have to pay him, he could afford a NIL donation himself (probably against the rules, but it will take the NCAA 4 or 5 to do anything and by that time he will have built a winner or moved onto a better situation).
Baylor had a Heisman winner in RGIII and was no longer a doormat of the Big XII. Nebraska has been a doormat for over a decade. And, again, Waco may be Waco, but it is in Texas. Any of you driven through Nebraska and visited Lincoln? I have. I'd rather be in Waco.
Nebraska is a sleeping giant. They have had 20+ years of sell out crowds so the big red will support regardless. Its only farming and big red in Nebraska so Rhule can and will be successful there. He can coach based on his record. Can he stay, who knows but his track record in college shows he knows how to win and turn around a program. The portal can make any team instantly competitive. He doesnt have to wait 2-5 years for "his" recruits. Guys who can coach win and dont make excuses. We dont have to play them so its irrelevant to Texas but Nebraska is a storied program that should return to respectability.
