VH, perhaps I’m a Pollyanna, but I just don’t buy this blanket characterization. Does it apply to some players? Sure. Does it apply to many of the players that TAM recruited in the last cycle? Absolutely. And my guess is that many of those kids will portal, because they have realized that there’s more to it than just the money. There are more than a few kids that bleed burnt orange or who have other reasons to go to Texas. Would Sam Ehlinger have gone to another school if they had offered him big dollars, had NIL been in place then? Frankly, I doubt it. Perhaps he is an atypical case but there are plenty of kids who have dreamed of playing for Texas and who are thrilled to be here. There are others that may not have dreamed of playing here, but who now bleed burnt orange. My guess is that Bijan Robinson and Roshon Johnson fit into that category. Definitely the landscape has changed with NIL. But we’re not yet the NFL, and frankly I don’t think that college football ever will be.
A kid from an affluent family in Westlake may not put as much stock into NIL factors than others of lesser means.
Yes you are Pollyanna. We are recruiting more and more nationwide and the more money other programs offer the more we will have to offer nationwide. These kids aren't living in the same world we did when we were their age. As Texas continues to be invaded by transplants who's parents have zero allegiance to Texas we will have to work harder at getting kids here which will require $$$. Its a different Texas and a different NIL world.
What do you mean next? "Bronny James, a high school basketball player, had an NIL evaluation of $7.3 million" High School NIL: State-by-state regulations for name, image and likeness rights - Opendorse
wealthiest ncaa football programs - Google Search WE’RE TEXA$! I say this not as a negative, but perhaps as an entitled Orangleblood who thinks we should continue to press our advantage in this brave new world.
I mean... when has that been an advantage for us before? It's not like baseball with salary caps and stuff.
When a non-athlete student gets paid, are they professionals? I say yes. But I also say it should be no impediment to them also continuing to be a student.
Yes, they quickly discovered that the only place in Malfunction Junction they could spend all that money was the Dixie Chicken, the only place they could race their fancy cars was a freaking parking garage, and the shine wore off real quick.
Forgive my ignorance but how does nil work with scholarships? to me if you are a stident athlete with an offer you should get a choice. You get offered nil money yiu can chose to take it or the scholarship but you can’t get both. lots of smart out there that could use the help toward a good education
Good question. Not sure how they work exactly either, but I think they’re unrelated. NIL deals are from sponsors (boosters) and schollies come directly from the University. But CDC is currently out promoting an NIL program so yeah, it’s pretty confusing.
I think it’s likely, but won’t the Sugar want us as well? Which team is a better TV draw, Texas or KSU? (As I said elsewhere, I believe that TCU should be a lock for the CFP even with a loss tomorrow, unless it’s a blowout.)
Being in Portugal I was asleep before the Pac12 CCG started. What happened to the mighty Riley? Not "Big Game Riley" it seems.
USC started out strong for first qtr and a half or so. Then the Utes began physically beating the **** out them - their D played like madmen. Caleb played on basically one leg for the second half and was very limited in terms of scrambling/creating.
True the USC tackling went South the second half but the difference in Caleb first half vs second half was obvious. He made a few dramatic passes but his lack of mobility was striking. I commented on the hand injury being minimal from my view but the leg must have been significant and I reckon Riley did not have another Caleb on the bench to replace him with this time.
Wait, don’t give them this advantage because Buc-ees is a madhouse, HIC & myself agree! Imagine two things: What kind of madhouse a Collie Station Buc-ees would be? I grew up in Bryan (BHS ‘96) - they would have to cram 30 acres of space out by OSR (so technically Bryan) and even out there it would be 10K customers at nearly all hours. What if Buc-ees was near Columbus, OH? Buckeye Buc-ees? Ohio-made local couches for sale to burn? Only minimally toxic smoke; though to a tOSU fan, no comparison with authentic used couches with meth lab residue for extra excitement during combustion.
SN? Really? You snark at me on a football board full of thousands of fans with thousands of opinions and in a 10 page thread entitled "Worthy to transfer to USC?" And you post, "1: How would anybody here know the answer to that question?" I bet if one looked at your posts you have offered more than one opinion
It might… my point is a team that plays in the playoffs does bring a wow factor- AND if UT beats USC in a bowl game.. sure
Sure. People could pull an uninformed blind guess out of their asses. And that guess would be either "yes" or "no", perhaps dressed up in some fancy language. If you were looking for rumor, innuendo, and pull it out of your *** guesses then I owe you an apology. Silly me. I thought you were seeking something factual, and since nobody on HF knows Worthy, nobody could offer that.
