The award has been bastardized and politicized to a point that it has lacked relevance for better than a decade.
Who cares anymore? All of the HOF and national award processes are tainted. Take the sports writers out and turn it to the public.
And read what is on Caleb Williams fingernails. F___ ucla. Did it in Utah game also. That alone should disqualify him and his sleezy coach from attending but I guess that is ok in todays world.
That's some ********, right there!!! When Reggie Bush got the award over Vince, I thought that was the worst. The downtown athletic club is a joke.
If Bijan had an "average" game against TCU, he's there. Williams should win it. Duggan is a gutsy guy, but he's basically Ehlinger lite.
They don’t consider honor. A worthless piece of metal. Didn’t they exclude Cedric from consideration his senior year?
re the honor factor: keep in mind that John Heisman was the coach at Georgia Tech when they ran up that 222-0 score on tiny Cumberland College of Tennessee. As for the athletic club in NY, when was anything worth zhit coming from NY? And is there a bigger waste of time than being a sports writer for a big time organization? Please note, I said waste of time, not talent, the days of the talented writers among that witches brew ended some decades ago.
Funny thing is that a lot of posters here will, rightfully, ridicule this award and its process. But, those same posters will be on pins and needles watching the presentation when it happens.
Stroud and Bennett are basically just throw-ins due to team success. People whined about this when Gino Toretta was nominated, and it's not going to change any time soon.
Which is why it's meaningless now, at least to me. It's been the most visible player on one of the best teams going back to Gino Tortilla, not the best player. Bijan should have at least got an invite to NY.
I'll go ahead and piss people off. Colt shouldn't have been a finalist in 2009. He had a noticeable regression from 2008 and we just happened to be undefeated. You had guys like Keenum throwing for literally the most yards ever in NCAA history and Suh being the most dominant DT since... whoever... and Colt got put up there because Texas was good.
one of my granddaughters was born there as well. So with three exceptions and perhaps a few others, I will amend to say that a lot of unnecessary or bad stuff comes out of there. and a few gems.
Colt was surrounded by nothing in 09. Without him Texas would have been a 4 loss team. 09 Texas was was nowhere near as good as 08.
