Our prisons are not full of people charged with an ounce of pot. In most jurisdictions that level is not even charged much less treated as a prison offense

Did anyone hear Andrea during the WBB game today? I guess committing a crime is a good thing and these people deserve a statue.

Nothing better to encourage them to commit more crimes.

My response would be who gives a ****? You know some deals need to get done to move on to a more substantial deal. My guess no one gave a **** about this one. Come on, man, give me a hard one.

    Welp…exactly like I suspected:

The Biden administration says it is still engaging with Moscow in an ongoing attempt to secure detained Marine veteran Paul Whelan's release from the Russian prison where he's serving a 16-year sentence, which reportedly involves hard labor.

On Sunday, National Security Council spokesman John Kirby told ABC's "This Week" the US is still "negotiating" for his release - confirming that recently a "very serious, specific proposal" was made to the Russians.

He further gave some background on the Brittney Griner release while seeking to deflect widespread criticisms that Whelan was left behind for the less serious case of WNBA star Griner. Biden has been accused of simply choosing her for her fame and the bigger PR campaign rallying behind her.

Kirby described that for months the White House pushed hard to gain Whelan and Griner's release together, but "it just didn't land anywhere... with the Russians," he explained in the Sunday comments.

"As we progressed through this summer and into the fall... it was clear that they were treating Paul very separately, very distinctly because of these sham espionage charges they levied against him." Kirby said that just before Griner's release it became clear that Whelan's release would remain unlikely.

Listen you dopes: your only leverage was to walk away until 2:1 was agreed. Now you have no leverage to get Whelan out. “Still negotiating” - what a ******* joke. That is what losers do.

    LOSER!!!

Kirby used the Sunday morning media interviews to lash out at the White House's critics who point to the Russians getting the deal of the century in Viktor Bout's release.

"They weren’t on the phone. They weren’t watching the incredible effort and determination by [Roger Carstens] and his team to try to get both Paul and Brittney out together," Kirby said. "In a negotiation, you do what you can. You do as much as you can. You push and you push and you push. And we did. And this deal we got last week, that was the deal that was possible. It was the deal we could get now. Now was the moment we could get it, and we executed it."

Even if it had to be 2:2, don’t do the first swap until the 2nd swap is agreed. My gosh - the stupidity is worse than I can imagine.

The only explanation for this morass of stupidity is virtue signaling and pandering to the alphabet mob. Biden administration cannot admit they wanted Griner first at all cost and then worry about the others later. If that was their goal, their strategy was sound. They just can’t acknowledge success on the terms as they internally defined it.

I would argue nether can you, there are soooo many examples on this thread.

    You posted earlier:

"Biden didn’t have the courage to walk away"

that was the insight I was referring to, not your negotiating prowess. You do not negotiate with the Russians, the Russians in the room have only one deal that Putin has OKed. Consequently, your negotiating experience is worthless when dealing with the Russians. Biden is many things, "coward" is not one of them, neither is "stupid".

I have negotiated with Russians. In fact, I enjoyed a cigar and whiskey with this guy: Head of Russia's Sibur quits management over sanctions

I can post his business card if you need proof.

    Biden’s team is stupid.

I disagree. He is very gaffe prone, not stupid, not corrupt and not incompetent. You can state your opinion but that is all it is. What about the TFG not using Maria Butina as a token to get another US citizen released from Russia, I have not seen your post criticizing that move.

Are you aware the Biden administration got the release of another American with Griner?

have not seen your criticism of that.

You didn't read your own link did you? In too big a hurry to try to snark?

    From you OWN link
"Her release was not part of any prisoner swap, according to NBC."

Demented Biden had nothing to do with it

Here is the crux of the issue: Biden’s team couldn’t walk away from a deal that involved Griner (since their options were limited by their own virtue signaling), but was more than willing to walk out on Whelan’s release. Putin’s team knew this and used it to their advantage. Negotiating is all about leverage - what you are willing to accept and what you are not willing to accept. Clearly, Biden’s team couldn’t accept a deal that didn’t involve Griner being immediately released. Like I said, this is dumb.

Okay, let me spell it out for you. Biden didn’t have the courage to tell the alphabet mafia that he isn’t accepting Putin’s deal because it’s a bad deal. Biden’s team is actually negotiating with 2 parties: Putin and the alphabet mafia. Under those circumstances, yes he got the best deal possible. The problem is that Biden isn’t acknowledging that he couldn’t say no to the alphabet mafia. Finally, do you know what you do when you don’t like a deal being offered? Walk away and give it time to possibly cure.

I read it, but it had to have state dept coordination behind the scene. I wonder if you see the irony of YOU accusing someone of "snarking"
I was not talking about trump, his total corruption would require too many key strokes.

Make me aware of Biden's corruption.
