I saw the 2nd half. Soares definitely makes Iowa St. a much better team (at least for 1 season). She gets up and down the floor a lot better than, say, Ayoka Lee did. So she will be tougher to deal with than Ayoka was last season. But I don't think Vic is gonna just let her stand there under the basket like UNC did most of the night. Pretty sure we will run plays at her and try to get her in foul trouble. To me, the game tonight proved that Iowa St. still has problems with teams that have good athleticism. Soares went 19 pts 12 boards and Joens went 18 & 9, and they still lost this game. Deja Kelly going for 29 & 9 certainly had a lot to do with that [still really hurts that she originally committed to Texas in 7th grade]. As usual, good defense will be the key when we play them.

Soares definitely adds a competent post presence and makes ISU a better team, but I was really surprised to see her get her shot blocked several times.

Soares vs Jones is going to be a really good matchup to watch.

I think so, too. Our perimeter players have got to learn to look for Jones earlier in the possessions (and they need to learn to feed the post with better passing) because she's down there getting good position early.

Caught the second half of the ISU game yesterday. Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year, Lexi Donarski fouled out of the game in the 4th quarter after putting up such a "stellar" performance guarding Deja Kelly.

If Rori is half as salty about this as you and I still are, other guards in the Big XII better look out.

It's not that I was upset that Rori didn't win. I'd have been okay if Ayoka Lee had won it. Donarski? Eh

Going to be a rough first year for Joni Taylor. aggy is 4-3 but their victories came against A&M-CC, Army, Texas Southern and Texas State with losses to Duke (71-52), Rice (66-58) and Kansas (74-42). They have 5 games before the SEC gauntlet and they will almost certainly lose at least 2 of those (SMU and Purdue) before kicking off conference play on the road against South Carolina.

Still don’t understand that hire. Georgia is in the same conference and she didn’t really have any breakout seasons there so why would Aggy think it will be any different in College Station :idk:

Oh wait. Just caught my mistake: “Aggy think”

In 6 games, Ashely has played in all of them, averaging just shy of 14 minutes per game. She has scored a grand total of 4 points, all of them coming from the free throw line, where she is shooting a gaudy 50%. She has not a single field goal in 6 games, and she has more turnovers than assists. On defense, not a single steal. Tech hasn't exactly played a murderer's row of a schedule either.
So... either 1) we REALLY broke that poor girl; or 2) you're exactly right that she is better suited for lower than D-1 level basketball. My money is on the latter.

How about that TCU player? Defender accidentally gets an arm tangled in her hair, and she responds by deliberately starting a fight.

Then again I can't leave the refs blameless. Even accidentally, it's still a foul, and a painful one, and on top of that the GW player got the steal. When you blow a call that results in someone both in pain and having their opponent gain an in-game advantage, you end up with people looking for some way to "even things up".

In the videos I've seen, I can see the TCU player's hair being pulled, forcing the TCU player to (unnaturally) bend downwards at the hips and lose possession of the ball. What I can't see is whether the tug of the hair was tangled on the GW player's wrist or with a closed fist grabbing the hair.

But totally agree Statalyzer, because the referees didn't blow the whistle and call a foul on George Washington, the TCU player took the matter into her own hands and I can understand why she did.

Iowa State lost their 5 point halftime lead at Iowa and now trails by 10 points with 5 minutes remaining in the 4th quarter.

If that outcome holds, is the Big 12 conference gonna go without any non-conference wins over a Top 10-15 team?

Baylor still plays Arizona in Dallas. Was it KSU that beat Iowa at home?

I was channel surfing and happened across this game. At the time ISU was 3 points up and they were trading baskets. However, I saw this giant of a player on Iowa State (Soares) and I remembered the chatter about her. Her mom being a Texas legacy and all that. Then I saw her make a 3! But with that length, she can't run up and down the court very fast, which wouldn't have worked with Vic's defense.

Ha! Unranked, 7-0 Kansas destroying #12 Arizona at Arizona. 54-33 at the end of three quarters.

At some point, these recruits we lost to Arizona are going to realize Adia Barnes is not the great coach she may be made out to be. They had one good season where they made the champ. game during the covid season. They lost. Then she couldn't even get out of her own gym in the NCAAs last season and had a mass-exodus after that. Getting punked at home by almost 30 to a KU team should tell recruits all they need to know. And it looks like we dodged one in not getting Fields too. Her stats are way below Shaylee's and Sonya's despite Zona's very weak non-conf. schedule.

I get a little chuckle every time something comes across my Facebook timeline about Tech WBB’s “winning streak” (currently at ten I believe). I can’t help myself but to click on the comments to see how their oblivious fans are praising the coach for “turning that program around” and the complaints of not being ranked when they are currently at “#1 in the Big 12 Standings”. They have no idea their SOS is #312 out of 361 and Gerlich is all about the smoke and mirrors.

Yep, I've been watching some of their games on ESPN+. Today they play another 2-8 team (I don't think they played anyone with a winning record), but boy are they gonna be surprised on 12/31!:whiteflag:

Yikes. OU with 30 points in the 1st quarter at West Virginia. WVU with 19.

Tech got scorched today. Not at all surprising.

And Ashley, doing all she could to keep it close, had one assist in 9 minutes.

The only surprise for me is that the final margin wasn't 35 points or more.

I'll say it again... you play almost zero defense and it'll kill you when you're not shooting it at about 50%.
